I was watching some videos of TG16 games and what really struck me were some of the super smooth animations. I was just wondering what games from the above systems had some of the best animation. I'm talking sprite work and stuff, not like animated cutscenes from Sega CD or anything.

Throw in NES, master system, and game boy, too.

No neo geo though, that would be cheating. Oh and by best I of course mean your favorites, not necessarily technically the best. Animated gifs/ youtube videos would be welcome!

It's a shame they never really eclipsed SOTN. It must have been an expensive game to produce, because most of the later 2D Castlevanias felt like fan-made works filled with sprite rips at times.

Rotoscopers add shading and definition. Only then does the animation truly take shape.
