Yeah yeah I know, severe loss of man-points for me but just got Netflix and decided to check some anime shows on there not realising they were Romance type shows ( no really) but I really liked Them!

Shows like Kotaru san and My Little Monster were really good! I don't know what else you guys can recommend.

Any suggestions would be great. Oh and if you have any non-romcom suggestions please recommend em too. Loved Steins Gate and currently watching Gurran Lagaan.

Cheers guys!

Alot of anime romance series suck because the couple only get together near the last episode.

Or even worse the whole show is about misunderstandings and being unable to confess etc...

But there are some good ones.

Don't use netflix so I have no idea which of the below are available, but

maison ikkoku
touch
yawara

are the best.

Ranma & Urusei Yatsura aren't bad either, but boy do they get repetitive

non-romcom suggestions:

Castle of Cagliostro
Monster
Guyver (either series - earlier one is slightly better, but later one is still very good and covers far more of the manga)
One Punch Man
Beserk
Hunter x hunter 1999
Gintama
Dragon ball (not so much z, though that's ok)
Hajime no ippo
Outlaw star
El hazard (26 ep one)
Street Fighter V
Street Fighter 2 : The Animated Movie
Big O
Tenchi Universe

My Love Story!/Ore Monogatari! is a great recent one.

The main guy is super huge and not a traditional shoujo romance lead but it's a very funny, positive and adorable show.

Toradora
Clannad
Toradora
Toradora

I really really really really dislike the whole abusive tsundere shtick. I know it's a bit ironic given my own avatar, but I can't think of any worse type of romantic comedy. I couldn't finish watching Toradora because at the end of each episode I just wanted to punch something. I can't stand a character constantly being an insufferable bitch to a subservient idiot who bends over backwards to please her while just shrugging off the abuse. I wouldn't ever recommend it to someone who has similar sensibilities.

As for my recommendations:

Kimagure Orange Road
Maison Ikkoku
Steins;Gate (only elements of Rom-Com)
Any Adachi Mitsuru manga or anime adaptation.

Toradora is bad advice, you guys want to ruin him on the genre right off the bat!? Everything else will be a disappointment.

Ok maybe that's not so bad. Go watch Toradora now and be done with the genre.

Oregairu (Hachiman is not your usual romcom MC. Season 2 is amazing.)
Toradora
Noucome
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
Gekkan Shojo Nozaki Kun
Chuunibyou (Only Season 1 tho)

Most of the above is from the last few years. If you want a really old one, but a great one check out Kimagure Orange Road.

Please Teacher will always be close to my heart.

Mayo Chiki was fun as well.

As for classics? Kare Kano, Torodora, Clannard are basically required viewing.

I don't understand how people can stand characters like Taiga. It doesn't matter how soft and deredere and broken or whatever they may be deep down inside, if at the surface and very real and constant basis they're completely abusive (including physically), possessive, demeaning and insulting, who think nothing of forcing someone else to do what they want and demand subservience without consideration. Sometimes (especially) even when they're being unreasonable and get called out on their shit.

It's the feeling that you're about to tap into a secret side of someone that no one had ever seen and that you've always known was there, and that it is so amazing and worthy that you can enjoy all the aggression. Because you know she doesn't really want to hurt you or control you, she just doesn't know how to express herself in more healthy ways!

And you're just the right person to teach her.

Also, if you want decent intersection between action and romance, I'd suggest Romeo x Juliet, which is a rather loose fantasy adaptation of the legendary Shakespeare play. In fact, if you watch RxJ, actually watch the dub, as they add interesting little touches to tge dub script to make it more 'Shakespearean'.

You should also watch some movies, namely things like the Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars.

Ano Natsu.

It's one of the more memorably energetic romcoms that I've seen. The main characters hook up fairly early on, so it's more about why they can't be together rather then when they'll get together.

Hatsukoi Limited is also a nice self-contained group romcom story, but probably more remarkable because no one has seen it.

Same with Natsu no Arashi, actually.

Kimi ni Todoke was already mentioned, but I think it isn't a romcom per se.

Please forgive me, but that sounds like the delusion of an abused spouse. I honestly don't know if you're being satirical or serious.

If a girl treated me like crap day and day out, physically hit me, demanded that I clean and cook for her (taking over half the show to have any sort of overt gratitude) all the while expecting me to enable her selfishness and whims, well, not only would she not be the romantic interest I want to draw out of a shell, we wouldn't even remain acquaintances.

Her personality and actions destroy the show for me, because I find her extremely unlikeable. She's not someone anyone should have to tolerate, let alone to the extent that Ryuji does.

Personally, i also think it is a sort of Stockholm syndrome delusion, but still i think it's fine to indulge in it in fiction.
