oh and fear factory

ps I love Nirvana, damn street cred gone.

What's so funny? He's gay. Hur hur omg.

Wait...

Journalist Richard Smith wrote that most Smiths' songs could only be read as homosexual, and urged Morrissey to come out of the closet. However, Morrissey himself said in an early 1990s Rolling Stone article, "I'm gay? Well, that's news to me." When asked to 'set the record straight' in the 2003 British Channel 4 Documentary "The Importance of Being Morrissey" he simply stated, "I don't see any 'crooked record'. People think they know, think they understand. I don't really care what people think -- it makes no difference to me. And I'm not hiding anything." He has remained tight-lipped on the issue, maintaining an enigma which has greatly contributed to his allure for over 20 years. However he did admit, in a 2006 NME interview, to no longer being celibate. "It's all within the songs," he has often claimed - the lyrics from 2006's Ringleader of the Tormentors indicated that "it's" also within the hips. He has also stated that he is in love with something, not someone - see the Uncut Magazine interview for more information.
Maybe he isn't!

Oh well, who cares either way, lots of people like the guy.

"there are explosive kegs between my legs"

BEASTIALITY?

Is he gay or not? I haven't heard of too many gay male singers outside of George Michaels (Father Figure is a kickass song) and Elton John (I have two copies of his greatest hits CDs).

White Man, please tell me you don't like that song/video.

see the Uncut Magazine interview for more information.

I don't think so

Judging from musical tastes, there are some very angry people at this board. Happy music for the win!

my favorite band from the 90's is ****ing blink-182. heh. first band i ever really got into (was somewhat closeted from music until later on in the 90's)

obviously they're not uh, even close to the BEST, which i'd probably have to give to either smashing pumpkins, nirvana, or green day.

PD: I have no idea after looking that up. Honestly.

White Man is a pretty big Moz fan, he'll set the record straight.

oh...ok. White Man, what say you?

The early 90's was a pretty great year for music. If I hate to pick the absolute best band of the time, I'd say:

Best rock singer of the 90's HANDSDOWN. He's still #1.

Love the Afghan Whigs replies great band, I would say Pearl Jam and Oasis are way up there too.

I'll throw in another dark horse (maybe not the best, but likely the most underappreciated in the US in the 90s at least):

Our Lady Peace

I never really got Refused. I try to listen to The Shape of Punk to Come every once in a while and I can't even pretend to see what the big deal is.

It's tough to pin down a best of the 90s band. No band really had more than 2 stellar albums throughout the whole decade, it was like they weren't allowed to do more than that. Nirvana, Pavement, Oasis, Elliot Smith....Radiohead was probably the best band of the decade. It's kind of questionable, but I prefer their music the most.

I'll tell you what gets me:

The fact that their magnus opus album was released in 1998 and sounds NOTHING like anything else at that time

The fact that they implemented real strings/violins, electronic music with punk/hardcore

The fact that their music composition and structure was in many ways highly unorthodox to punk/hardcore conventions

The fact that many of their riffs, licks, drum rhythms were unique for their time

The fact that NEW bands that are coming out are finally catching up to their sound

The fact that even though now their music probably doesn't have any particular novelty (due to our present situation), it still rocks my socks

It's just a damn fricken innovative and intelligent band, musically and lyrically

Yes. His Soundgarden output + Temple of the Dog = holy shit.

I was about to ask why you didn't put Soungarden on your original list.

Props to Refused and all, but best band of the 90's? I just don't see it.

From a pure 'personal taste' standpoint, then my favorite bands of the 90's were Helmet and Clutch. Are they 'best band' material? Hell no. But to me...

**** the **** yeah. I've been way out of the punk scene for years now, but I can still put on one of their albums and feel amazing inside. They have a mystical connection with the bay area that makes me heart flutter.

My votes:

1. Pavement
2. Radiohead
3. Weezer
4. Nirvana
5. Yo La Tengo

Add the Flaming Lips and you'd have my fave bands of the 90s as well. Either way, good man.

And In Utero is one of the top 10 records of the 90s. Those drums are the shit.

I could never listen to them without wishing Operation Ivy was still around. Their debut album was great, though....still have it somewhere.

Gilman Street was pretty cool, the one time I ever got out to the west coast...Econochrist was playing, I think. 91 or 92. I missed Born Against by days...(arrgh).
