Best boss battles of this past gen?

SargerusBR

I love Pokken!
For me it's Mr. Freeze from Batman - Arkham City

You literally have to use all the skills you learned through the game to beat him.

Pretty much anything from Bayonetta and many of the boss battles from DMC4, provided the difficulty is up higher.

And, well, fuck, pretty much anything from Platinum Games in general. Those dudes rock.

Metal Gear Rising thread? Metal Gear Rising thread.

Best boss: Guilty Spark from Halo 3

Can we also discuss the worst boss battle? That was clearly the final boss from Gears of War 2, the lambent brumak. You literally just hold the RT with little to no aiming, explosion, ending, credits.

2nd worst: Halo 4

Also you can't make use of the same attack strategy twice, forcing you to use all the options you have.

I'd also put out the final boss from Sin & Punishment 2. Purely for it's insanity, doing several difficult attack patterns then eventually doing 3 or 4 of them at the same time.

Y'know, the overall game may not have been very good, but Final Fantasy XIII did have some good boss fights in my opinion.

Really loved the Demon's Souls boss that turns out to be
another player
. Blew my mind when I realized what was happening.

Anything from Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising or Vanquish.

The Augus boss fight from Asura's Wrath! The visuals and music were just damn perfect.

I think it was a little too easy. You have to use a number of skills you learned but there was no danger of defeat. You land one attack then just run to the next one, without any buffer or fight sequence between.

I'm gonna throw in the Final Boss of The Wonderful 101 as well.

(I'd put in the last 2 hours of the game, but not all of that is a boss fight.)

EDIT: Wait, that's Wii U though... well, still awesome!

Yeah, I don't know. I almost thought it was a little annoying..

Yeah. What I like about this boss battle is that the boss is adapting to your patterns instead of the opposite which is so common in other games. More studios should try the same.

Man, fighting Freeze in Arkham City was awesome. I remember running around that small room for a good fifteen minutes, legitimately scared, because I could not find a way to attack him.

Artorias of course

Of course. I play with no shield and fighting this guy while dodging by the skin of my teeth and only getting occasional hits was absolutely epic. It was a damn nice adrenaline spike.

Honorable mention to this guy(The Dullaharn) on tier 10 difficulty in Soul Sacrifice:
