Best Boxing games?

I started going to boxing 6 months ago and I'm having a great time.

In relation to sports video games the only ones I have played since a kid have been PES.
Long ago I had the opportunity to play Fight Night Round 3 on PS3, but at that time I had no notions of boxing, now that I know, I would like to start playing some game. I should come back to this one or there's any other better?

It's sad that FNR saga is not in this gen.

Any recommendations? Any system is welcome.

Punch Out Is pretty cool even the Wii game is great.

Edit: Arms is also pretty darn good but i dunno if it counts as a boxing game.

Fight Night Round 4 remains my favorite boxing game ever. I really wish EA would make a modern gen Fight Night game, they were so fun to play. On that note I'd just like to also point out that Round 3 and Round 4 had fucking mind blowing graphics

Fight Night Champion on the PS3/360

And then you can cry over there not being a good boxing sim on this gen.

I loved Rocky on the GameCube. It was the boxing game I'd always dreamed of. I bought it with a ÂŁ50 note that David Blaine gave me. (True story).

I always loved Ready 2 Rumble on Dreamcast.

More recently I really got into Fight Night 3 and Champion. They were great. Very disappointing that they've stopped making those.

ARMS is scratching my boxing itch, currently. But it's a very alternative boxing game.

Fight night champion wasn't too bad if you used the real fighters and the story, though heavily scripted, was alright to play through.

The create a fighter online stuff was a shit show though sadly.

Fuck that Isaac Frost fight.

Cotton got whooped though. :P

For simulation, Fight Night.
Arcade, Victorious Boxers, and Punch out.

Ring king nes or whatever its called in the arcade is great. Made by data east. You can upgrade your fighter etc and move on. Punchout Arcade and super punchout snes are excellent also. Buster douglas boxing on genesis was epic when it came out too

I'm so pissed that Fight Night doesn't exist this gen.

The Hajime no Ippo games are pretty good (even if you don't follow the anime/manga, which you should)

Also Punch-Out! is a classic.

Is that Cotto putting hands on Pacquiao? Lol

I played as Cotto for career mode. Such a great game.

And even more shenanigans, Pacquiao is wearing Grants. I don't think he's ever used anything other than Reyes for the majority of his career.

Rocky on the Colecovision was pretty good IIRC...? And the 2600 had an interesting boxing game, but can't remember the name offhand.

Seriously, though, the Rocky game that was on the PS2/Xbox/GCN was good IMO. Liked how they took all of the Rocky adversaries from different eras and mashed it together. It's not real-life boxers, but I got burned out on the IRL sport of boxing in the 90s.

Fight Night Round 3 was my favourite.

X - High left hand punch
Y - High right hand punch
A - Low left hand punch
B - Low right hand punch

So simple and so effective, then they changed it for Round 4.

How are the (3?) Hajime no Ippo games the US did get?

I thought they were pretty decent but pales in comparisons to Victorious Road(PS2) and Boxer's Road 2: The Real(PSP).

If I remember right, the first game lets you play different fights from Ippos career. While the second one mixed it up and lets you play through other characters fights. While I cant really comment on the Wii game since I only played around 10 or so mins of the the game(I owned it lol).

I absolutely loved FNR3. Used to play it religiously. They changed everything for FNR4 and Champion. I want Fight Night back this gen.

My vote for Fight Night Round 4. Fantastic graphics, fantastic gameplay. You can try the demo on Xbox 360 (not sure if PS3 too) but you will see a little difference: blood. The demo has blood, and is a good one, is not gore or disgusting, but that was rmeoved on the final version, or at least I couldn't find how to activate.

Best modern boxing game:

Neat story, fun gameplay, a wealth of modes and characters, excellent graphics, satifying hit feedback. Can't go wrong with this.

Best classic boxing game:

Best boxing game of all time. Tons of great characters with their own strengths and weaknesses. Perfect gameplay. To me this game has always been the boxing equivalent of the N64 wrestling games. There was a sequel too.

That sound when you land a body shot and it sounds like their spleen exploded.

The fight night series is the best in terms of more modern boxing games.

Sadly EA has forgotten this series in favor of UFC (not sure why they can't do both?), just like they've forgotten Skate.

There really isn't any good "new" boxing games this gen (that I know of).

However since you never played them then the last Fight Night game (Fight Night Champion) will definitely be a game you'll want to check out.

My main beef with FNR4 and Champion is that they removed the directional blocking and parrying of Round 3. That's where all the skill was! Yes the way the parrying was executed was unrealistic in 3, but they could have improved upon it. Instead they removed directional blocking altogether and only let you block up and down. The computer directionally auto blocks for you! What kind of shit is that?

I played round 3 for years on Xbox live and loved it. Such a skillfull game, talkin trash on the mic, whoopin ass. Great game. I still have hope for a great boxing game this gen.

I thought that was a smart change, honestly.

Fight Night 3 is my favourite, then the Ready 2 Rumble games. I really hope we get another FN game this gen, but if not, fingers crossed EA and MS get the 360 games on BC and EA Access soon.

The Wii version was fun too. Didn't play the PS3 version.

Ricardo Martinez too broke, please nerf.
I remember buying it for $5 at Sam's club, and thinking "what do I have to lose". Ended up being one of my favorite ps2 games, and made me a fan of the Anime.
