The Spirit of the Beehive since it focus, among other things, on the outcome without hammering it home.

Also Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone.

Those are, mainly, post-war. We have many good post-war movies but about Civil War there are few good ones.

Some good movies about Spanish Civil War could be "Land and Freedom" and La Vaquilla.

There are some tragic stories with books that directors don't dare to make yet. Gernika or La desbandá.
By chance, it's filming a movie about Gernika right now.

Would Dances with Wolves be considered a Civil War film?

probably not. its more of a period piece in that instance. its been a long time since i've seen it, though, so i don't remember how much of it actually dealt with the civil war.

i think it does the same thing as The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly where it uses it as a backdrop.

Let's see if Gaf helps me.

A civil war movie where there's some kind of exterior intervention (or perhaps extraction ? ) , and the sequence has a very particular music ?

I dont know why but thought it was something composed by Mike Oldfield..but its not the case. Its a 80-90's movie.
