Godfather II:

The way that the movie throws back to pre-Godfather I, in a scene obviously shot during that movie that we never saw, set before Godfather I, and then jumps to Don Corleone, and then to Michael just after
he has Fredo killed, the only person who actually stood up for him at the dinner table, but arguably, a guy who got killed because of "that's pop talking..." when Sonny talks about people risking their lives for people they don't know.

Great scene.

Great scene.

That scene was actually shot specifically for Godfather 2. In fact James Caan demanded that he be paid the same amount for that one scene as he received for the entirety of Godfather 1. They paid up.

Dat first post. "And then I woke up."

No Country for Old Men is up there for me. The entire third act is fantastic--I love his discussion with his uncle, too.

Tarkovsky has some fantastic final scenes to his movies. Just introduced some friends to Solaris this past Sunday--haven't seen it in a little while and forgot how spectacular it is, especially the ending.

And of course, The Sacrifice is infamous for its ending/long take.

My man.

This scene ALWAYS put a smile on my face.
Is not a true ending as you know these fantastic character went of with their lives and had more adventures together. Is just so refreshing to see a couple of good friends hang out together.

I have to admit this would be one of my top picks as well. But I'm old, and Casablanca is still Casablanca.

"Here's looking at you kid."

Dr Strangelove. I can walk!

Ferris Bueller. Principal's bus ride. Chika-chikah

Casino Royale. Bond.

Empire Strikes Back purely for the music and nice shots.

The Thing. Might be my favorite of this short list.

alternate ending of the butterfly effect when the dude strangles himself in the womb

I thought that was the real ending. That's weird.

I loved Whiplash's closing scene and have rewatched it in full a few times since. Just terrific chemistry and progression.

As corny as it is I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ROCKY IV's ending

The ending to The Dark Knight Rises sends chills down my spine every time I see it. Incredible ending to my favorite trilogy in cinema.

I was thinking WTF when I first saw it, like I couldn't believe they went down that road. Didn't take long after that for me to go awwww I wish they continued on to see where it would go next.

Terminator 2
Robocop
COMMANDO!!
Point Break (always liked it)
Superman

Wow this is harder than "best opening." Respect to "No Country for Old Men." What came to mind for me was another Cohen bros. joint:

"The Dude Abides."
Those fellas sure can write.

Godfather 1 and 2 have such perfect closings.

Michael Clayton is my little gem that I love to post in threads like these. Blamespace is on the right page.

Prince of Darkness

Twin Peaks - Fire Walk with Me

This is one of my favorites,

The Beyond

This! Yes!

The Human Centipede.

This too. Saw the movie at a horror festival without knowing literally anything about it (only knew the name of the movie - thought it was some kind of a mutant creature flick). The ending hit pretty hard. Even the end credits were uncomfortable to watch because of the sounds. What a great ending!

Only one post mentioning the Thing in the whole thread

I don't like horror movies, yet this might be one of my favorites movie ever and an amazing and cryptic final scene:

Michael Clayton's ending scene is absolutely cathartic. I can't believe that a continues shot looking at Clooney riding around New York in the back of a cab could be so incredible. Gem of filmmaking.
