Best "dude w/a gun," cover art

I like Halo 1's.

It's not even just about MC at the front though, so maybe a bad example.

But it sets the tone and what to expect in the game, and it actually delivers that very vast open area gameplay that the cover lets you imagine about.

Probably one of my favourite covers.

This was the one game I was jealous of not owning as a previously only PS2 owner during that generation.

You're crazy dude. That box art is embarrassingly bad.

Scrolling through the thread, this made me laugh:

Can't wait for the Great Video Game Crash of 2020™ to revolutionize box art to the point where reverse cover art is always the primary cover art

I actually really like the Spec Ops The Line boxart. At a passing glance it looks like generic soldier boxart but I think the beauty lies in the details. A closer look reveals the guy eroding away into sand and his appearance does not appear to look like the "All American Hero" we are used to seeing. Something behind him smoldering. Something else is happening here, something not so "dude bro." Of course, I can see why it blended in and was ultimately lost in the shuffle; the generic name, the generic commercials, the generic yet completely serviceable gameplay. If only it were marketed differently, perhaps this gem could have done better.

While Ratchet & Clank (2016) is my first Ratchet game, and an absolutely amazing game, I fondly remember seeing this cover art.

Very prominent and over the top, even without the subtitle. It reminds me of Spyro the Dragon: Ripto's Rage by the same dev.

I realize how much I hate these covers. Exceptions being uncharted 4 and spec ops, maybe a few others, because they express something that is not "wanna play/fight this badass ?????"

There's a lot of great ones in here (Wolfenstein, Spec Ops), but I'd have to go with the original Doom cover. The 2016 tribute cover is really cool as well.
