This is the winner. Unless grilled at home.

Why would you get a hamburger at a chain when you can go to a local place and get a burger that is twice as good? That is why you excluded the Mom and Pops from this thread, right?

As far as chains go, Teddy's bigger burgers and Fatburger and my picks. I was amazingly disappointed in In-n-Out burger.

This is my philosophy as well. Non-chain burgers are 10x better than a chain hamburger. I love White Castle and make it a point to get one whenever I travel east of the Mississippi. Living in Southern California, I enjoy In N Out and Carls Jr as well. However, Father's Office and The Shack have burgers that are much better than In N Out, which is indeed overrated. I feel sorry for people who travel here and think In N Out is the be all end all. That's setting the bar really low. The only chain restaurant that has an excellent burger is Houston's Hickory Burger. Damn that thing is good (and not on the menu at my local Houston's).

When I got tired of the schoolfood at harvard this place saved my ass :

I will have to go with Whataburger and their A-1 Thick and Hearty <never forget!> and Fuddrucker's here in SATX... I do miss their ostritch burger, it had this interesting flavor to it.

Another good place around here is Chester's, that has some solid greasy burger action going.

We finally have Five Guys, Krystal, Smashburger and Freddy's here as well, those are of varying quality with Krystal being at the bottom.

Krystal? White Castle? I really do feel sorry for people that actually consider those good burgers and eat that garbage.

Not the best, but the best I have close to me....Ted's Montana Blue Creek Bison Burger is Fanfuckintastic.

There is no equal to the fucking Harvey's burger. Or poutine.

Five Guys is actually the closest thing I've ever had for me, so that's my #2. But if you're in Canada and you see a Harvey's, YOU MUST EAT.

I've never understood the hate for Carl's. They have the most flavor and are by far my favorite burgers. In N Out is ok but soooooo overrated. I live right next to an In N Out and have only been there half a dozen times in my life. Carl's Jr for life.
Get it animal style.

worst fries ever.
How can anyone hate crinkle-cut?

Crinkle cuts have a higher surface/mass ratio which gives you more crunch per fry, as well as ridges that perfectly hold sauces!

It isn't the size or shape of their fries I hate, but their extreme blandness.

God, I don't know what it is about White Castle but man, I would be so fat if White Castle was around me. I eat the microwaved ones like three times per week. Whenever I am in St. Louis I always have to eat there. I can't stop myself. Best real burger I have had in a while is this one in Lawrence, Ks at some Irish pub place. Uses Natural Kobe beef and is so freaking good. I want to go to Kansas City for this place that is in a hotel that adds duck fat to their burgers. That sounds so fucking good. Yum.

Napa Grill. When they server up their Kobe Burger. These replies are a joke.

Never lived in state with White Castle so I cant comment.

I love In n' Out and I think its the best burger you can get for the price you're paying .... but right now my favorite is 5 Guys if were talking about quality :)

(homemade burgers dont count)

Oh, also, Ive found myself REALLY liking Carl's Jr. all of a sudden, wtf?

Ah yeah.

Counter Burger is pretty awesome too. Too bad the one in SLC shut down.

Yeah, the food at Harvard is pretty bad. Unfortunately, Harvard Square is generally a terrible area for food as well. Bartley's is ok though.

This is the winner. The other fast food burger patties in this thread have ZERO chance against Luger's USDA Prime porterhouse trimmings.
