Best forests/jungles in videogames?

Loved that level. Huge scale, you could stand on top of that temple and look around at the whole forest and glide anywhere from there.

So true! That game had some luverrly graphics! Infact, know that you remind me... I think I'll go play it again!

That's what I call a TV that can display the PS2's graphics with that clarity.

A magical TV that increases the resolution and adds anti-aliasing? Still MGS3 looks quite good.

The reason Factor 5 games look so good is that they code to the metal. I don't think any Wii developers have tried that yet.

I got this funny feeling that this thread was created so people will have another reason to say "Crysis Wins!".
:lol
Best jungle? Donkey Kong Jr................... ok, it's Far Cry/Instincts(visual wise), but gameplay wise it's MGS 3 hands down.

It's especially annoying to me because there's always something better on the horizon.

I couldn't stand gaming if I was ONLY ever looking forward to the next game a few months / years off.

Yea, Rebel Strike really did look great, but the game is psychologically draining to play (it was for me at first). Rogue Squadron II (the launch title) was a lot more 'fun' IMO.

Yes!

Plus, for the Crysis Uncharted comparison image, same thing with saturation changes and color tweak:

STFU! Plus don't forget on is on fricking PC.

Crys... NOT!

I vote Baten Kaitos 2 and HOLOHOLO JUNGLE. I don't remember if it was present in Baten Kaitos 1, probably.

How about.... the Dracula X / Rondo of Blood intro for the PC-Engine? I loved that forest intro!

In-game the contenders would have to be Secret of Mana, Zelda TOOT and most recently and stunningly lush Zelda Twilight Princess.

Actually, come to think of it, NO! The best ever in-game forest was the one my 16-yr-old imagination created in the (mostly) text adventure 'Twin Kingdom Valley' on the Acorn Electron! Seriously! Playing Oblivion really makes me realise that the awkwardness of this gen's ability to create 'realism' detracts from the atmosphere that simpler - and in this case virtually non-existent - graphics can muster.

By the way, the best trees can be found in nature (calfornia redwoods are best) and it'll take a while before I'll ever want to hug an in-game tree. Although it was a close call with the ailing Deku tree I remember.

Has to be Snake Eater. It has so much variation and includes so many different types of plants, cool grass, swamps, plains, thick-forests, bushes, variaton of altitude, variation of geometry etc...

All those middleware-generated forests are dull, though good looking. In Snake Eater there`s a critter in every bush, and the forest seems alive. Small but alive.

I can't find any screenshots, and it probably looks terrible by today's standards, but I was amazed at the forests in Outcast when I first saw them.

TUROK maybe, and Transformers PS2 even though that game has jaggies almost as bad as RRV.

Rebel Strike forest is somewhat boring. I don't like it, and it is pretty much on rails and a lot trees that look identical.

that one too...the game was stunning when it was released

peace

I loved the Wind Waker forests more than any other game I player. For somewhat, Crisis forests looked very realist, like Endor Moon on Rebel Strike on the GC, but both lack somewhat of interactivity. That's why I think that Wind Waker Forests are still the better.

Looking for justice pictures...

Really, in this game you felt like in a forest. I love Wind Waker. What a pity that the game was a bit uninspired in gameplay terms :(

I remember sitting in some places just to look at the view, how the wind moved trees, flowers and grass. You can direct the wind so, you can change the movement on them. Also, you can use the Sword of the big leaf to provoke windslashes... really amazing stuff.
