Best graphics this gen: Prince of Persia?

TRICO will take the crown in the next 2 months.

You've been talking about "TRICO" reveals for damn well near 2 years. It better fucking materialize at E3. :P

Basically. There is a VERY strong case to ban each and every member who attempts to make such an argument. They quite clearly lack any sort of basis to make even the smallest of judgements on technical complexity or are just blatantly trolling Crysis and the PC platform. In either case they should not be posting in threads like this. There is no other rationale for such mind numbing stupidity.
You mad?

The graphics are amazing, like a painting come to life. Too bad the game wasn't as good as the graphics.

The thing is it would be perfect for a new Zelda with the OoT/MM art style. Wont happen though :(

Killzone 2 welcomes any candidate to set up a screen next to it for comparison.

I know it isn't techically the most impressive game this gen but I think Fable 2 is a great showcase of what a mix of beautiful art direction and good use of technology can do together.

There are some jaw-droppingly beautiful landscapes throughout the game.

As far as consoles go, Banjo is probably the winner, but no one actually played it so I'll have to go with Resident Evil 5. Overall It's Crysis, it's not even a contest.

In its own "niche" as a corridor FPS, yeah there is no competition. KZ2 is in a world of its own.
But overall, it's just impossible to compare KZ2 to Assassin's Creed or PoP or whatever. The scope is just so wildly different it's basically two different types of games and engines that have very little in common.
Edit: By corridor FPS I mean a game where you are on a set path and where the developers are in control 100% of the time of what's going to be shown on the screen. It doesn't mean that it's literally all in corridors ;)

Killzone 2

+1

KZ2 is TEH game you should look at when it comes to graphics. NOTHING is at the same league. (Res5 looks great, but It don't match up at all)

Agreed. Banjo is the most visually impressive console game I've seen, and anyone arguing that anything looks better than Crysis are just fooling themselves.

Besides Crysis. Two easy words to help legitimize any sort of graphics superiority argument you make. Besides. Crysis.

Screens borrowed from the PC gaming screenshot thread.

EviLore, can't say you chose the best pics of the game to prove your point, but not one console game comes close to the king that is Crysis <3

I wouldn't say PoP holds the graphics crown for consoles this gen... I've played pretty much every "big" title on PS360 and I'm a big proponent of Dead Space. Some areas in the game absolutely blew my brain into orbit. Others in this stratosphere are KZ, RE5, and Uncharted.

I saw your appreciation for the Anvil engine yesterday and you mentioned KZ2. I wanted to point out something but I saved myself.
Pyrrhus rise.
It's imo the most graphically pleasing mp map of KZ2 and it's pretty much the largest console FPS mp level so far this gen that's not Battlefield BC.
Whenever you want to describe KZ2 as a corridor shooter I will point to that map as well as the barrens (Mech walker) levels seen in the singleplayer. :p

High res Crysis shots put the stomp down on any console game this gen.

It's not an opinion, it's fact. Check the high res PC shots thread. Or, play the game. EDIT: or Evillore's post. :D

It's not close.

Super Mario Galaxy
Screw anyone who can't accept a Wii game getting a mention in best graphics.
No Wii game can get a mention in best graphics, due to the fact that the system is underpowered.

However PS3 and 360 games are allowed to get a mention in best graphics, due to the fact that the systems are underpowered.

Learn the rules man.

No, I'm one of the very few sane people in this thread. There's no arguing here, its a matter of fact against fiction. Crysis is far above and beyond anything else on PC, nevermind consoles.

But I'm sorry I forgot about its lack of intensity mapping, that one effect is enough to nullify any other techincal feat. Well, at least that's what I was told on GAF anyway. Can't wait until they port intensity mapping to the PC so I get to see it in high resolution at a nice framerate.

I've never played it but judging by screenshots and movies, Crysis always looks leagues ahead of anything i've seen this gen

Well, I could load up Crysis Warhead at full settings and make some screens at 1920 x 1080 if you want.

Granted, my little Radeon 4870 will die in the process, but it would be worth it.

Anyway, anyone mentioning console games for "best graphics" this gen surely cannot be talking from a technical point of view, something which ironically, makes Mario Galaxy a valid and clever pick.

However, coming back to technical superiority... When the current gen consoles can manage super sampled adaptive anti-aliasing, high quality anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion AND a frame rate that isn't 30 for 90% of games, come back to me, until then, dream on.

Crysis or Killzone. I've never compared them, so I'm not sure.

Trust me, it's the former. KZ2 may be the best console game in terms of graphics, but come on now guys. Saying KZ2 > Crysis proves either you haven't seen Crysis in action, or you need thicker glasses.

These are just some real screens taken from gaffer PCs, not the absolute best the game has to offer. You can see the >30 framerate listed in most of them and you know where they came from.

When it comes to consoles, the Wii is underpowered compared to Ps3 and X360.

When it comes to consoles, the X360 and Ps3 are underpowered because?

Banjo, Fable 2, Uncharted, PGR4, Motorstorm 2, Assassin's Creed are my best looking games. I'm speaking of consoles only of course.

Mirrors Edge or Assassins Creed.

Crysis, KZ2 & RE5 are all better technically, but good art design is much more appealing to me.

You can't just look at the game from a technical point of view. It's a marriage between awesome art design *and* technical prowess. I think I still like the look of Uncharted the best. KZ2 and Assassins Creed are up there too.

Oh and Mirrors Edge too...the PC version is more beautiful than Crysis could ever be.

Anyone who starts off a best graphics thread by mentioning Prince of Persia is obviously talking about console games. PC gaming is a different beast entirely. Discussions about it should be seperate from mentions of stuff like Galaxy, POP, etc.

So it comes to consoles only.

Don't listen to those people, every time you challenge Killzone's mediocre story, subpar controls, and semi appealing multiplayer they say "you mad" and chalk you up as some sort of fanboi out to destroy their reign of superiority.

Guess what I own a Gaming PC and a PS3. Fear 2 looks better on PC than Killzone. Crysis isn't even in the same league.

Some of you non believers should should out the high res PC thread, believe!

Sorry, still Crysis. The locales and art direction is outstanding. Not to mention technically it's a generation beyond the current consoles.

Because compared to even mid level gaming systems (Dual Core + HD4xxx series or 8800 series) the current gen consoles lack in graphical and computing power, memory and overall prowess.

Anywho, this is a losing battle, when 90% of people here profess that "PC Gaming is dying" while hugging their comfy couches, installing reality becomes a hard task.

Very true, Mirrors Edge on PC truly shows what happens when good art meets awesome tech, a realisation of the art style the current consoles could only dream of.

Whenever the term "gen" is used, I assume we're exclusively talking consoles and not the output of whatever graphics cards are out this year.
Bu bu bu closed systems only, its no fair!! Darn computers and their modular nature!

i change my vote again.
Fallout 3 looks amazing to me. sure the character models don't look that great, but the actual wasteland looks gorgeous.
