Best gun in any video game, ever?

The handcannon would be a much better choice.

Unlocking in The Mercenaries was totally worth it.

The M9 in Metal Gear Solid 2. It doesn't manipulate objects like the Gravity Gun, it doesn't create a crater of destruction like the Fat Man and it can't shoot 30 bullets in 5 seconds like the AK47, but what it does do is make you feel like a total bad ass.

I realise it's a weird choice, but one of the most satisfying things in the world to me is playing through MGS2 with only the M9, knocking people out without them ever realising I'm there and moving on silently.

Am I the only one that loved using Doom's Plasma Rifle? I'd definitely put it in my top 10.

Other candidates at the rocket launcher from UT2k3/4 and the AK from SoF2.

Painkiller's shotgun was meaty, bassy, primally fun to use. If I ever own a game company the first thing I'm doing is making an FPS with nothing but shotguns.

KILLZONE 2 - M4 Revolver

Absolute beast in MP

I was going to post this but you beat me to it. There was so much satisfaction killing people with this gun that I think it is easily the best weapon from this generation. Had a lot of fun sprinting all around the map and putting two bullets in everyone. Liked it so much I never bothered to really use my main weapon anymore. Meaning to start up Killzone 2 again for this weapon alone. Best magnum like gun ever I think.

Totally agree! I know the BFG was "tha shit", but I never found it as punching and entertaining as the plasma rifle. I never wasted good plasma on the BFG above the rifle.

And that sound... man oh man!

Yeah, pretty much the Gravity Gun. Near-infinite versatility.

But if we're going with something that actually fires predetermined ammo: The Nuke Device from Turok 2: Seeds of Evil.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPf-6urZqWY

(1) Its claw-like mouth spins and vibrates dangerously as it charges.

(2) A high-powered beam of energy strikes out.

(3) The energy gathers in one location, and some bastard spacio-temporal anomaly forms.

(4) The anomaly explodes out in a wave, petrifying every enemy it touches and setting everything else of fire.

(5) After about five seconds, all of the petrified enemies crack and explode violently.

Yeah, it was stupid and I loved it.

FEDIT - Cerebral bore is also a valid choice.

Wasn't that called hte Chronoscepter or something? I remember it being in Turok 1.. say what you will about Turok but it's crazy superweapons were crazy and super.

Hm, looking at the Chronoscepter it looks different but has a similar "giant blue explosion beam" thing, so I don't know.

I'm gonna go "dark horse" here with my vote for the Auger from RFOM.

Such an awesome weapon for objective games, as well ruining sniper and 40 whores' days...yet actually required skill and knowledge and a plan to use.

The possibly-glitched "BLR Hornet" from Borderlands.

The Hornet is a legendary-quality pistol which fires two high-corrosive shots a burst.

however, the BLR Hornet is not just a Hornet, but it's also The Dove: It doesnt say it on the gun, but it has infinite ammo and doesn't need to reload.

So what you have is a super-rapid fire weapon which does huge amounts of corrosive damage that never runs out or stops shooting.

It makes things melt.

Racoon City Survivor George Hamilton's capsule/ampoule shooter:

In Outbreak, George has a medical set where he can mix herbs into different kinds of pills. In Oubreak File#2, George is given the capsule shooter as a weapon where it allows him to load and shoot different types of pills. For instance, shoot a teammate with a recovery pill to heal or in some cases cause instant death for enemies with an anti-virus pill.

Capcom did the same with the Monster hunter series to allow certain bowguns to shoot recovery bullets to heal teammates.

The Awp is responsible for more kills than all the rest of the guns in this thread combined. It's an artists weapon. If you get really good with the AWP it feels like a jedi's light saber in your hands.

The weapon may be somewhat unbalanced but it is truly only as devastating as the player who is using it. Once in a pub game of 10 vs. 10 I got 118 kills in 13 rounds to finish 118-0. That's 118 out of a possible 130 kills (10 players on the other team x 13 rounds). I was the only player on the server with a positive score.

Resistance 1... it was beautiful :(

already mentioned serveral times, but another vote for the laptop gun from perfect dark

not only was that thing awesome to fire, you could toss it down as a turret to cover your ass.

Left 4 Dead 2's version with laser attached. The laser turns this violent beast into the most destructive zombie killing force man has ever seen. Never leave the saferoom without it.

Sorry cannot pick one, top 12 no particular order

Cerebral Bore
Gravity Gun
Portal Gun
Farsight
Laptop Gun
Doom Shotgun
BFG 9000
Nuke Gun
RCP 90
Halo Pistol
Gears Lancer - (It had a chainsaw in it...A CHAINSAW!)
AK 47 (when you absolutely positively....)

What this does tell me is that I like my guns to either be more beefy than a cow shoved in a blender, or so explosive that the military of today considers it a development goal for 100 years from now.

Also I realy like the idea of a kill everything but me and make me ice cream gun....

Totally agree, absolute monster of a gun. I feel like a total badass when I am wielding one and dual pistols.

Hello n00bs, my name is Railgun:

railgunevolve.jpg

I'm glad to see the thread was won so early.

I'd go with Quake 2's railgun though. It had a je ne sais quoi that they never managed to replicate.

Nostalgia, most likely. That one is a bitch to replicate.

I'm not flaming the OP at all, but how does this pass, whereas when I post a topic about best Zelda items, it gets locked at page 1, and posters are posting shit like "lol gamefaqz"?

Anyways, I'm quite partial to the lightsaber in Dark Forces II. Does that count?

Agreed. I loved the q2 rail.
But, I also hated instagib.

edit:
I love the M468-SD in GRAW2.

I think it's more than nostalgia. That gun just felt right.

Also the HL2 crossbow, FEAR nailgun, Doom 2 double-barrel shotgun, and the M4 Carbine in Rainbow Six: Vegas.
