Best horde modes?

Bioshock Infinite - Clash in the Clouds DLC

I thought that the gameplay was pretty mediocre while playing the singleplayer. This horde arena mode makes it really shine though. Especially if you go for all the ribbons.

Modern warfare 3 had a horde mode? How the hell was I unaware of this?

I played mass effect's on release and didn't like it. But they've added a ton of maps since. Has it improved?

It's improved, sure. There's more maps, more characters, more weapons, more mods, a couple more objectives, a new faction... but it hasn't changed. If you didn't like it then I don't see why you'd like it now.

is horde mode , the mode where you and your teammate are against increasing difficult waves of ennemies ?

If so the uncharted 2 version of that mode was awesome.

Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but while limited in maps, Max Payne's 3 horde mode is a lot of fun with a friend. The slomo works great and it gets intense.

Gonna echo the Killing Floor posts here. The game is a blast in coop and the community for the most part is one of the better ones I've seen. Half the time you don't even have to ask someone for help and since they'll already some how know.

Orcs Must Die 1/2

Dungeon Defenders isn't really worth playing.

Orcs Must Die is an incredible game, both 1 and 2 (although I prefer 1). Totally agree about Dungeon Defenders, I heard a lot of great things about it, but it was a huge letdown to me. The game mechanics just felt awful to me, as did the loot...

I totally agree with Mass Effect 3. A ton of fun.

I was surprised with how much I liked ME3's multiplayer/horde mode...

Black Ops 2 Zombies is the best horde mode made. The amount of strategy, all the stuff you need to figure out on the maps, the hidden stuff, and easter eggs there are is amazing

The most enjoyable "Mercenary mode" to me was the "Mercenaries" in RE4. It was the one that popularised that type of mode to begin with.

Gears of War 3's Horde 2.0, Uncharted 3 and Killing Floor are my favourites.

I kinda enjoy Overrun in Gears Judgment, but definitely missed Horde 2.0.

Killing Floor!

+huge load of well designed maps
+active modding community (custom maps, 100 people servers, etc)
+regularly on sale @steam for about 3,50€
+tons of fun and mostly balanced weapons
+updates at least twice a year with additional maps and weapons
+regular "events" like halloween, christmas and...carnival...and...stuff
+the most hilarious voice commands in any multiplayer since Age of Empires II

I was SOOO disappointed at how they botched UC3's co-op arena compared to UC2's

It went from enjoyable wave after wave of angry soldiers in increasing difficulty to some rotating objective with survival thrown in. I also didn't like the big gunner guy, his animations weren't as cool as the UC2 big gunner.

For any sort of PC based Horde Mode I would go for Killing Floor. It runs on anything, and feels incredible to play.

It has, in my opinion the best gunplay of any horde game - something the console derived games have problems matching. Only downside is that it has a slightly wobbly netcode and that it is best played with friends.

Other than that Mass Effect 3 MP is also pretty damn fun.

Another vote for Killing Floor. 180 hours, still having absolute blast. My go to game that is always installed on my pcs. Amazing game!

Dosh! Right here!

These are my top three:

CoD: World at War
Gears of War 2
Mass Effect 3

I can't decide which one was my personal favorite because I had way too much fun with each one.

Binary Domain, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Bioshock Infinite, and Gears of War 2.

Those are the best 5 that I have played. BD, Warhammer, and OF are all very difficult which and are all co-op which in my opinion makes for the best Horde Mode. Bioshock Infinite's was probably the most thought out horde, and Gears 2 was the original for me.

I'm a bit partial to Uncharted 2's survival mode. It was one of my first horde mode games I played and it did so much things right for me. I played that mode was more than any other multiplayer mode in that game.

I played the demo of Mass Effect's 3 and really enjoyed its multiplayer as well, but never bought it because I didn't want to start the series from the 3rd game and was too lazy/busy to start the first 2 games.

Absolute best for me would have to go to Killing Floor as well. The different loadouts, the class system, the enemies and ways to combat them, and the money system. I enjoyed everything about this game.

I just realized that might be the only horde mode balanced for solo. Might check it out whenever I get around to buying the Season pass.

That's what the "Survival" mode in Spec Ops basically is. I personally liked it, though I wish it was four players instead of two. That's what I'm hoping for in Ghosts. That's probably the one thing that could get me interested in that game.

Dragon Rising, huh? Good call!

I thought F.3.A.R's F*cling Run and Contractions were pretty fun although I don't know if they're technically "horde mode".

The lack of Resident Evil and its Mercenaries mode in this thread is highly unsettling.

I assume it doesn't count. I'm not really into horde modes (unless Vanquish's challenges counts, if so, then that's the best), but I like Mercs quite a bit. Especially No Mercy Mercs in RE5 and RE6, though they both play quite differently.

The depth there is in ME3 is incredible. Love'd how the last spawn gets insane it that game. So many ways to play and always a comp for 1st place.

Joining the Mass Effect 3 chorus with over 500 hours of shame. It is a bit clunky on the lobby/network side, and the do-everything button can occasionally suck you into inconvenient corners even when you learn to avoid them. However, the amount of characters, weapons and available gameplay styles is incredible once you get some decent stuff unlocked. I haven't played for a few months, but I kind of miss my Asari Valkyrie and Batarian Soldier.

Had a lot of fun in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.

Also, TF2's Mann vs Machine mode.

Never played Killing Floor, but I've heard lots of good things about that game.

I've played a fair amount of Mass Effect 3 horde mode. But c'mon guys, that game was only fum because of the RPG mechanics. The core shooting mechanics were so mediocre and has been so for the entire series.

I've never understood this argument. Mass Effect 3 had more than competant shooting mechanics and built a diverse set of them. Sure, you have your average hit scan weapons but the later tier weapons are when it really gets interesting. You want a grenade launcher type weapon? Use a Falcon. Want a pistol that shoots proximity mines? Use a Scorpion. Want a weird biotic pistol that fires in an arc and can bounce off of walls? Acolyte. A weird ass shotgun that you can charge and shoots out knives? Graal. A sniper rifle that shoots out a continuous death ray? Collector Sniper Rifle. A shotgun that channels Emperor Palpatine's Force Lighting? Reegar Carbine.

Wish doom 2 had a co op horde mode
In an unofficial capacity, it does.

It's called Stronghold and it's a very high quality effort.
