Best Looking Armor in an RPG

This

Witcher 3 bear armor for sure in my opinion.

It looks realistic and bad ass at the same time. The physics in game also help it a lot with the coat.

Man oh man how I wish this would have been made sooner!

For me? NOTHING... will top this. N-O-T-H-I-N-G!!! (Though I wish he had a sword / shield instead of a 2hander)

The Holysabre class from Granblue Fantasy. The artwork in this game... god, if this game is Cygames first PS4 game I'll probably flip my lid!

Some other favorites...

Most things I would otherwise have mentioned have been called, so I'ma go with the Ursine set from Witcher 3

Love this set so much I'm cosplaying it next month!

Also this Dragoon armor set from Final Fantasy XIV

Edit: Aaaand beaten

high boots? There are almost no heels at all (maybe an inch?).
I didn't say "high heels" I said "high boots". They looked almost crotch-high at first but looking again I guess there's at least an articulation on the knee and it's meant to be a separate thigh protector, at least, but still, metal plates over bare skin.... *shudders*
She only has one "sharp" protrusion and that's on her left forearm, which isn't really excessive at all and those on her knees are not too rare even in real life armour sets. The "armour" on her belly might as well be some super strong cloth, who knows. It is a fantasy armour and from that perspective it is absolutely gorgeous. You just don't like Lightning, admit it :)
Of course I don't like her (who does? outside of Nomura of course), but I really think this outfit looks stupid and uncomfortable. The feather butt-cape is the icing on the cake.

For stylish, decorated fantasy armours that don't make me want to gouge my eyes out, I prefer these (minus the somewhat ridiculous tail on the helm and the ugly hood on the first two):

Edit:
Based on this thread, I guess it's safe to say that From is godlike when it comes to armor design.
Yup! :)

No mention of Yurt's armour yet???
I never cared for it much. Never been a fan of overly spiked armour and especially helmets. Some parts of it look cool when mixed with other pieces though.

From Demon's Souls, my favourite sets were (usually sans helm/hood) the binded, black leather (male), fluted (female), Selen's, chain mail (female). Usually mixing and matching from those. Garl's armour is cool too but I don't like the big-ass crested helm much (same with Velstadt's armour, which has a similar helm).

I like those!

Oh some more I remembered:
Still annoyed at how some of them don't protect the belly so well though. But they look otherwise practical and still look damn cool ^^

I'm not a fan of the Souls games (just not my thing) but part of what makes the armor sets so great is that FROM clearly does a lot of research on medieval armor and bases their designs off of things that actually existed. In a way it's what keeps their armor from looking too "fantasy" and ridiculous.

I just appreciate realistic/practical armor a lot more because I'm actually doing Historical European Martial Arts a few times a month.

I know games are a fantasy, but I can't shake the feeling that all these crazy spiky armors would simply not work in a real setting.

Always loved the look of Anubis' armor from Unreal Championship 2. (not exactly an RPG though)
Sci-fi, yet ancient Egyptian.

Same with Too Human. As bad as that game was, I thought their weapons and armor looked pretty cool.

Maybe cliche by now, but when I got it at the time it was the tits:

Bloodfang was awesome, easily one of my fav Rogue sets. Could be cause Tier 1 with boobshoulders was fucking awful.

Too bad they started overusing the shoulders in too many sets afterwards, with just color changes.

Oh I'm with you. Coincidentally (or maybe not) I also practice a martial art with armoured combat (kendo). I wonder if that affects our perspective.

I don't mind a moderate amount of decorations/spikes etc. for coolness/style points, but when it's taken too far it just looks unfathomably stupid. Like, I'd wear this and not feel like a dumbass, but not, say, this... xD

This thread is reminding me of a huge reason I don't play JRPGs outside of the Souls games.

I fucking hate that anime style with oversized, complicated and stupid weapons, un-necessary belts and pouches and buttons and silly hair cuts and colours and blech.

I've always loved the look of the Alonne Knight Captain armor set from DS2:

Just something about the split helm and shoulders I love, use it every time.

I have no doubt that having practical experience with armored combat will set your opinion on these things.

Although I mostly practice military sabre, I know for a fact you want sufficient armor on your hands/arms because that's what will be the primary target in a sword fight. I've tried being in full plate a couple of times, and while you do have a decent range of motion, it does slow you down, especially helmets that constrict your vision too much is a big problem.

I can appreciate a cool looking fantasy armor, but yeah as yourself it has to be somewhat reasonable.

It didn't actually look like that in the final game, did it? I remember the finished product looking a lot worse.

I do martial arts too (Iaido) but I find FROM Software armour sets to be boring and uninteresting, which is why I much prefer the ones from Final Fantasy since they look incredible, maybe not practical in the real world but they are strong in the world they come from.

For traditional fantasy I have to give props to FROM SOFTWARE, I just love their armor designs! With my favorites being the Elite Armor Set (Dark Souls) and the Faraam and Alva Armor sets (Dark Souls II)

Shin Megami Tensei has some incredible cool outfits too like the Demonica suit from Strange Journey:

The White Samurai Set in Shin Megami Tensei IV but that game has a LOT of crazy sets you can mix and match.

And recently some of the Arms Manufacturers in Xenoblade X have been giving me some pretty good looking sci-fi armor sets with my favorites being:

(The cat ears are not part of the set but I cannot find a picture with the original mask T_T)
