Best money spent on a game?

I still believe that everyone who missed the chance to spend $20 on MPT steelbook is probably still very sad...

Due to Target pricematching + some deal thing where you could get like $15 off any game 40$ or more if you preordered a game, I ended up getting Mario Kart 8 for like $36 a week after launch. I've put almost 100 hours into it, my most played Wii U game by far. (And of course, due to Nintendo's get a free game offer with MK8, this means I got MK8 and WWHD for only $36)

Bought the Witcher 3 collectors edition and the season pass later on. I've never spent as many enjoyable hours on a single player game than the Witcher 3. It's definitely amongst my all-time favorites.

I bought Destiny (plus season pass) at launch, bought The Taken King on day one and I've spent 3808 hours playing it since.

I've definitely got my money's worth

That means you've played on average almost 6 hours of destiny a day since it came out. What the hell did you do all that time? Just PVP for like a quarter of the day every day? I can't imagine. I'm a variety gamer myself so I would go insane.

I paid $1 for La Mulana. I did not expect a super deep 2D metroidvania (not the correct term for this though, this is so much better than any Metroid or Castlevania, it's not funny) that lasted more than 50 hours; crazy puzzles, rewarding exploration, secrets everywhere. A true gem.

I also paid $1 for Volgarr the Viking. Favorite action game ever. I love how every level is divided in puzzley action segments. This is an awesome game for anyone wanting a great challenge. I'm not even a fan of old games like Ninja Gaiden or G&G; I think those rely too much on cheap death and randomness; but this game, every time you die it's your fault, no medusa heads here. Also played for more than 50 hours, even though you can speed run it in 15 minutes.

Finally, I payed $1 for Mark of the Ninja. This is the best stealth game ever. You can approach any fight or challenge the way you want, stealthy, not killing anything, or killing silently, etc. So much freedom, this is great.

This three games are all on sale today, crazy value for the money, it's rare that I have so much fun with a game, so if you haven't played them, go for it

Destiny.

I spent $150 dollars on 2 specials editions of the game because they both came broken(they gave me half back for that, so that's why it cost 150).

I sold the contents inside on ebay and made about $600.

I've spent 1k hours on Destiny.

So that's $600 - $150( game + all expansions) + $20(spent on silver)

So the best value I've had and the game I've played the most for the least is Destiny. Spent 1k hours and spent negative $430 on it.

Regardless of it was a bargin bin game, free app, or full priced game. A few that stand out for me:

Civilization 1 on PC. Received it free.
Mutant league football received as a gift.
Street fighter II and mortal kombat II both were gift.
Sonic the hedgehog and Wii Sports came with system.
I would also say the sports games of 2005. NFL 2k5 $20, madden was discounted to $29.99 because of 2k. NHL 05 and NHL 2k5, and probably my most played game all time was NCAA football 05. I paid full price for that.
Words with friends is a free app I put a ton of time into.

All of these games had at least 100 hours in them. Ncaa had two 20 year dynasties played in full.

Hard to choose just one game.

Guild Wars - I sunk hundreds and hundreds of hours into that game + expansions. Fantatsic MMO. GW2 is not near as good as GW1.

Half-Life - Awesome FPS, tons of free amazing mods (Counter-Strike [over thousand hours in this series alone], Sven Co-Op, etc.)

Unreal Tournament '99 - GOAT arena shooter and sunk hundreds of hours into it at LAN parties and online.

And most recently Elite: Dangerous - this game makes me feel like a child again and is one of the most beautiful games ever. Probably close to 500 hours in the game after 1 year.

20 euro's for Suikoden II (black label PSX)
7 euro's for Ninja Gaiden 2 (xbox 360)

Awesome bang for my buck!

I've sat for 12 hour stretches some times, some of that time is just chilling in orbit or the tower with friends. It's awesome

Lately, it was probably The Witcher 3 and its season pass, pure quality, the game only gets better after each patch and i've found so much joy in the hundreds of hours i've wasted on it.

Edit: Also , the retail version had a manual, a Map of Velen and even two STICKERS! oh! and also a mini OST CD. OH! and free DLC missions and gear! it just didn't stop.

Witcher 3.

So much content, and side quests are as good as the main quests, if not better. Haven't even reached the DLC yet

When it comes to value I have to say Guild Wars 2, I had around 6,500 hours in that game (easily my most played gamer ever). Granted, I did spend money on in game items, however I don't regret any of it.
Ok, maybe a little!

Must be Dark Souls 1 for me. I got it for full rice at release but I must have got something like 1000 hours out of it. It's crazy how long that disc didn't leave my ps3 despite me buying me new gmes regularly at the time. O.o

I definitely put some hours in on Fallout 3 GOTY edition and Destiny (standard + season pass) and I'd say the hours definitely made both worth while purchases. The hours spent sailing around listening to shanties in AC4: Black Flag were definitely worth the collector's edition I nabbed at $40.

I would say the best example though comes from my parent's money in Super Mario World and Pokemon yellow. I've played through World so many times its ridiculous (still bought it on the WiiU just to run through again).

Kirby Robobot

Don't usually buy games for 3ds the moment they are released, after triple deluxe (which I bought on sale), I had to have it

Here in mexico is 999 MXN, which is something around 54 USD

I actually don't regret it at all

EDIT: apparently is the cheapest... i'm dumb... I guess it would be guacamelee, which I got through the humble bundle with Nintendo, pretty damn awesome game, and rhythm thief for 3ds, also with humble bundle.

I think I bought The Binding of Isaac+ wrath for a couple bucks.

Pretty sure I put over 200 hours into that game.

Diablo 3 on PS4 or Xbox One would be another recent game. Couple hundred hours with each version.

edit: Shit, I forgot Destiny. I play it strictly solo, but even still I've put in hundreds of hours. Just something to play when I don't have anything else in mind.

If we are talking cheapest I would say Binding of Isaac Rebirth. $15 for 400 hours isnt bad at all.

I have put $60 into Marvel Heroes and don't regret it a bit. Gazillion's F2P model is the best I have ever seen and I dont mind paying them.

Paid about $10 for Stardew Valley. Just yesterday passed 40 hours in it and still going strong with it.

Paid $5 for Binding of Isaac and played 100 hours of it before moving on to Rebirth, which I paid $7 for and have over 20 hours in.

Bought Dying Light during the glitch on GameStop when it came out (buy DLC and gave code for main game). I actually feel bad about that one cause I would have paid full price and been happy about it.

Also on Black Friday I got about 5 games for 100 bucks and they sent me the order twice, so I returned one shipment, so I got them all for free.

Fallout New Vegas. Got it from GF for about $5 bucks with coupons and shit. I spent more consecutive hours on that game than any game I've ever owned.

I believe the first two witcher games set me back somewhere around 6€. They both ended up being played twice over the course of a summer. Amazing games.

I got Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles on sale in the Vita PSN store for $2.50, 2 months ago. During that same sale I got Suikoden II for $2.99.

Those were pretty sweet.

Diablo 3 and the expansion. I have put in so many hours in it, it's ridiculous. Bad Company 2 is a runner up. On the opposite side of the spectrum is every Madden game I buy. I play it for about 2 months and never touch it again.

I'll go with Destiny. I paid full price for the game ($60 base game + $40 for DLC) & have gotten countless (well, not really "countless".. but you get the picture) hours of enjoyment out of it.

Honorable mentions;

Pokemon X/ORAS - OMG TEH HOURZ!!
The Division - 11 days played.
Skyrim - for obvious reasons.
GTA V - 120+ hours across X360/PS4

I also recently bought The Witcher 3 for $20 but haven't really scratched the surface yet. I'm sure once I complete it, it will make its way to the above list.

FTL. Paid 5$ for it. I have 133 hours recorded on Steam, but I played probably another hundred before I rebought it there, as I originally got it on GOG.

Went on to, as I mention, rebuy it, then buy a copy for at least five of my friends, some of which went on to accumulate triple digit hours themselves. Even at full release price it's a steal. I've often considered buying an iPad just to have a portable version.

Close second would be Spelunky, which I probably spent even more time if you count the original free version, the rerelease on Steam and then on Vita.
