Best Musou games?

probably not the best anymore, but damn I put so much time into this game back in the day:

Is there a reason to get Utage in Japanese versus being able to play Samurai Heroes in English.

Unless you are intent on experiencing the characters' stories and can't understand Japanese, Utage is just flat out better. Improvements to gameplay, more modes, and most importantly double the characters

It is also very easy to navigate the game without understanding any Japanese

Warriots Orochi 3 id great, but.I.wouldn't really recommend it as a first game. Hyrule Warriors is actually a very good entry-level musou.

I'd wait for Samurai Warriors 4 otherwise then.

For storytelling: Dynasty Warriors 7

For gameplay: Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate or Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete

WO3 was my first .. i have no regrets ..enjoyed it fully .
It's funny since i couldn't enjoy those game before i played WO3 and now i've played so many of them since ....

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate really is damn good. I was swayed earlier in this thread to make that my choice and I don't regret it one bit. I haven't played a Musou game since Dynasty Warriors 4 and this has been a great welcome back into the series.

Been thinking about picking up DW8 on PS4 but I'm afraid that might over saturate the amount of Musou in my life at the moment. WO3U has so much to do and I'm not even halfway done with it. Phew baby.

Any musou game with "Empires" in the name. The grand strategy world map conquering gameplay makes the mindless hack n' slash funner.

Sengoku Basara is the best Musuo series. Combat just feels better.

HW has been pretty sublime, so far.

WO series was a great time too, so many friggin' characters. Combat isn't as good as SB/HW imo, but I haven't played Ultimate yet.

My friend, who lives in another country, and myself, love to buy a game every holiday season with campaign co-op, and play through it together throughout the month of December.

We want to get a PS4 game to play this holiday, and are targeting a musou game.

We've narrowed it down to Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate and Samurai Warriors 4.

We'd like the game that looks the prettiest, so long as it still plays comparably well with great content.

I'm seeing WO3U is a much older game enhanced in all ways, but it seems like Samurai Warriors 4 is the one to get as far as visuals and freshness goes?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Warrior Orochi 3 ultimate has content .. i don't even think it's possible to have more content in a musou game . Be prepared ..there is hours and HOURS and HOURS of content in this game. and i'm not even counting dlc and replays.

Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper is fantastic but Ultimate seems better.
Gundam Musou 3 and 4 are excellent too.
Dynasty Warriors 8 Complete Edition is a blast as well.

I don't see Samurai Warriors 4 being talked about much; is it not as good as Warriors Orochi 3? How about visually, being that Samurai Warriors 4 is a much newer game overall?

Nothing gets near or tops Gundam Musou 3. The smaller sized maps with thrust based mechs zooming around gave the perfect pacing. Very nice looking too with the cell shading.

One Piece Musou 2 is solid but game would be so much better at 60fps.

Less content overall compared to WO3 but its combat is one of the fastest out of all the Musou games out.

Visually, it looks great. Its very colorful in a stark contrast to DW8 and WO3.

SW4 is probably the most visually impressive of the bunch.

It's a fine Musou game, but certain design elements have built a bit of controversy among the fanbase. Some praise the new Hyper mode for breathing new life into the combat with flashier and speedy attack strings, while others feel it hinders the uniqueness or signature appeal of the cast of playable characters. I kind of sit in the middle on this one as I agree with both sides and want adjustments without outright removing the system.

Most would agree the weapon fusing and collecting is kind of garbage. You find lots of new weapons and gear, but without the ability to properly fuse skills or lesser finds, you become far too reliant on RNG drops to feel any real progression, a big downgrade from DW8 and WO3. Essentially managing all your loot is also a tedious affair, even just to cleaning out your constantly evolving inventory of vendor trash.

Story mode is short for each faction and feels a bit light on content compared to DW8 and WO3. Most time is spent on the custom warrior mode which is novel and addictive, but filled with too many small-scale fights and can get a bit grindy.

SW4 is a fine Musou game and beautifully presented despite the above, but WO3U provides a more 'pure' classic take, not to mention just an absurd amount of content and overall zaniness. The mechanics are a bit antiquated compared to DW8 and SW4, but I still prefer WO3U myself.

DW3 was the standard for a long time, first introduction of the weapon and item system. Stages were pretty much set for story however certain characters did not play all stages, sometimes made it hard for certain characters as you started out with a level 1 weapon on a stage that actually required the level 3 version of it. By far my most played outside of 4 actually.

DW4 to me despite not being the most popular was my favorite. It allowed you to kind of choose how the final scenario in each chapter played out due to how you did on the sub scenarios. Certain people would or would not show up depending on what happened at prior battles. The XP system on weapons...which was NEVER EVER BROUGHT BACK, saddens me still to this day. I loved getting XP and leveling my weapon up instead of constantly going through a ton of garbage weapons. If they could mix the system they have right now with picking up weapons and then leveling them as well for bonus effects....omg that would make the game even more insane. But so far DW4 is the only game with the weapon XP. It was also the first game to introduce the standard XX▲(x4-6) combo if I remember correctly. It also has the most OP and badass attack list for Zhou Tai.....they never brought back tbe style and size of Katana he had. He was by far the most amazing character I had ever used for just mowing down herds of soldiers. He had the same moveset in DW5 but his katana was no where near as huge.
