Best NES games of all time?

Glad to see Snake, Rattle and Roll getting some love. Great two player (especially racing for the level skip rocket).

I'd like to add to the list Codemasters's Micro Machines on the PowerPak plug thru cartridge. Another stunning two player.

And of course Super Mario Bros 3 and Zelda 2 but they're too popular!

Yeah, definitely. My only two real complaints are the 1) bad translation and 2) the transforming from day to night(and back). But even with these huge flaws, it's a classic.

...and the mostly misleading NPCs and nonexistent difficulty.

Is there any difference between Mike Tyson's Punch Out and plain old Punch out aside from no Mike Tyson?

Some people would say the promise of XBLA is greater, but it's threads like this that make it hard to believe that either the XBLA or PSS even come close to VC.

Nah. They just redrew Tyson's face a little, and colored him white. And so, Mike Tyson became Mr. Dream.

Everything else about the game is exactly the same.

Some will tell you that Mr. Dream is harder than Tyson. That's not true at all, as the AI is the same. However, since his skin blends in a little more with the light-colored background, you don't tend to 'notice' his little movements right before he throws a punch quite as easily.(Mike Tyson had a green ring, while Mr. Dream had a light blue color) At least, that's how it was with me.

01 - Ghosts 'N Goblins
02 - Castlevania II - Simon's Quest
03 - Ninja Gaiden II
04 - Battletoads
05 - Super Contra
06 - Gradius II
07 - Bionic Command
08 - Mario Bros 3
09 - Adventure Island II
10 - Double Dragon II

River City Ransom is my number 1 of all time (all systems). Every gen i wait to play something like this. warriors was damn close but i still need the stores, food, items, moves, and attributes. so.......still waiting.

Ok, everyone I need your help please. I'm looking for this NES game and I don't the name. I have never played the game, but I wanted to, because I remember I had this Nintendo magazine which showed screens of it. (This was like 15 years ago)

All I remember (if I remember correctly) is that it was a platform game like SMB, and I remember one screenshot showing a water level which made me think of the water levels from SMB, the first time I saw that screenshot and other screenshots showing platform style levels. Furthermore I know that the story, if there ever was one in that game, was about a man who's daughter had been kidnapped and he went on a quest to save her.

Hell, I know it sounds vague, but that's all I remember, 'cos it has been so many years since I saw those screenshots. Hope there's someone out there who can help me.

It's funny that the NES has the most memorable games of any system I can think of, and yet when you take out all the great ones, the rest are absolute garbage.

That's funny. How do other libraries differ from this?

To me, average = not worth playing, so even a game like ZOE2 fails to impress me.

NES gaming >>> current gaming to me. The overwhelmingly positive response of this thread shows how much of an impact NES gaming had.

Ok GAF, I didn't want to make a new thread about this, so I'm justing posting it here instead.

I need your help to ID a SNES game I used to play when I was little.

The game could be played with 2 players and 1 player controlled a green (I think) sort of automobile with black turrets and the other player controlled a yellow (I think) airplane/helicopter, this all in co-operative mode. It was an arcade shooter like game. In my memory the game was a vertical scroller. I really can't seem to remember other details. I hope someone knows this and can help me out here!

Thanks in advance.

OH NOES MY INTERNET REPUTATION.

Anyway, Crystalis.
I remember asking for this as the only thing I wanted for my birthday one year. But since my parents found it for $15, the decided to snag me Ninja Gaiden 2 as well
Best. Birthday. Ever.

Wow. Excellent! That is the game indeed.

DJ Tiesto thanks for your tip, but it is called Firepower 2000 indeed! How weird, I totally would not have thought the game would be called that. Ow never mind, I just saw that it was released here in PAL land under the title 'Super Swiv'. That's how I remember it!

Thanks a bunch!
