The favorite turtle thread had me thinking, what is everyone's favorite of the 3 cartoons?

Oh and for me I got to say for me the 2003 series. The recent one is really good but overall I prefer the 2003 series. Although it started to get really weak in the later seasons.

I only saw the original, so I'm biased of course.

I love the original's art, especially the high budget pilot episodes. It's such a tease, though. Those pilots look so good and then they cheap out.

More of a fan of the original. It didn't take itself seriously and it was pretty genuinely funny and gloriously cheesy and toyetic. Plus, it's what I grew up with :)

Easily the original series. I've watched the other two and given them a fair shake. They are good but the original series had a goofy charm that the others haven't replicated in my eyes. Their voice acting was absolutely perfect too.

I grew up with the 80s series, but the newest series is exceptionally good. The 80s series gets pretty ridiculous as it goes on, but the first three seasons (especially the first 5 episodes which make up season 1 ) are great.

Haven't seen the entirety of the 03 series to make a judgement. What I've seen was good, but I understand it gets a little ridiculous.

87 got old quick and the last 2 seasons are just embarrassing. Grappling hook mikey? Fuck that noise.

2003 is the real deal.

I haven't seen much of the new one but I like 1987 version because it's paced like a proper TV show/mini-series.

There's wacky stuff that happens but the staging and cinematography doesn't treat you like you just snorted a line of sugar.

I'm not sure how anyone not blinded by nostalgia or just blind could say anything other than 2003.

Worth noting that the IDW comic is better than all of them combined.

The original is... not very good looking back with the exeption of few episodes (including the first ones). It gets too silly and it can look really cheap.

I only have very vague impression on 2003 one but honestly I expect that to be much better overall than the original. I have no idea about the newest one.

definitely the 2003 series.

the current show has some good parts but it's too childish.

I loved the 80's cartoon as a kid, but after seeing an old episode recently, I realized that it was trash.

I was a huge mark for the old series but honestly the new series is in a different league.

Way better than everything that came before it.

2003.

Stories straight out of the Mirage comics.

Multiple episode storylines.

But it stopped being ok when they went into the future though. Then there was that whole "Splinter bits" garbage. That wasn't very good.

All true. IDW comics are the best thing that happened to Turtles.

First few seasons of 2003 outclass everything else. It did multi episode arcs, action, and character development on a level higher than the others.

2003 for me definitely. Despite some issues I had it was solid. But I'll go over what I didn't like:

* The opening theme
* Karai's character arc
* Censorship (I forget which broadcast company was in charge, but they refused to air certain episodes. I think this only became a problem in later seasons though for some reason (Baxter Stockman's episode for one example)
* Fast Forward - Perhaps the most egregious one. What was worse was that IIRC, they completely inserted this into the series when it made no sense. Because right before it aired the series was taking the turtles to be trained by the Ancients. And then they even cut out the entire arc of the original Shredder (I don't think it ever aired on tv). So yeah, clusterfuck of the highest order, and the episodes were all garbage too. I'm pretty sure Peter Laird and the other writers were pissed since the whole idea was just pure Toy cash by the execs.

Grew up with the 2003 series, but I also liked the 87 series too.

They actually aired the rest of the arc as lost episodes.

87 trails pretty far behind 2003 and 2012. Bit of a toss-up between those two since they're great for different reasons, but I think I'll go with 2012.

2003, although it went downhill around the Ninja Tribunal season. Gave up in the middle of it. Haven't given Fast Forward enough time but I liked it more than Ninja Tribunal stuff.

Same As It Never Was is still a very chilly episode full of feels. :( I believe it's on YouTube.

2003

Though with enough time 2012 can surpass it.

87 is only for nostalgia, even though I love it. I got to be honest

My son loves the current series, so I've seen a lot of it and truth be told, I'm liking it more than the 87 series.

Didn't really watch the 03 series.

The 87 series wasn't very good beyond the pilot episodes. Nice for nostalgia, but not much else.

03 was decent, although the drama was a bit much. Became stale and creatively bankrupt after a few seasons.

12 was undeniably the best. Perfect blend of humor and drama, and they did some interesting things with the central characters.

Grew up with the 1987 cartoon. When all is said and done, I think 2012 has the potential to be my favorite, but it's too early for me to say just yet.

2003, no contest. I was a little too young for the original series so I never really liked it, but the 2003 one got me hooked. Even looking back after watching all 3 of them, I still think it was done the best.

Each turtle had their own distinct voice (in the '87 series I thought they sounded too similar, and the bandana color errors didn't help) and their personalities were on point. Everyone looks at the art design and say it was too gritty and edgy, but it was still a goofy series most of the time. The only downside I see in it is how crazy the series got near the end with all the alien stuff - it just kept going on and on and I eventually gave up for a while.

The 2012 seems decent to me but I can't stand the quality and the childish Teen Titans-esque humor(at times it is hilarious but most of the time I think it's too much). Regarding quality, I mean stuff like how in the first episode, when the turtles are roaming the streets at night for the first time and don't see a single human being except April and her dad. The streets just seem empty and therefore less believable, and I know it's because 3D modeling is more harder and expensive to do, but I still think both the '87 and '03 versions did a better job of mixing everything together in the background so you actually believed the turtles were in a city. And they got rid of Raphael's accent so I feel like he sounds like Leonardo sometimes.
