Best Offline 2 Player PS3 Games

Yo!

My roommate just bought a second PS3 controller and we were super stoked to play Saints Row 3 co op. But it turned out it only has online co-op and now we are quite bummed and puzzled. I have a small library of games, the only 2 player games I have that are worth noting are Super Stardust HD and Uncharted 3. Problem with Uncharted 3 is that the Playstation Plus download files are confusing as hell and the game is trying to make me pay more money to be able to play split screen - what a joke.

So my question to you all is:

What are the best 2 player "couch" games on PS3? We are open for practically any genre. Right now I am thinking about purchasing LBP 2 and possibly Playstation All-Star Battle. I have heard great things about All 4 One as well.

Dead Nation

Playstation All-Stars is a great couch game IMO.

Littlebigplanet is fun, though you might want to download a few levels online.

Resistance 3. Split-screen coop for the campaign, plus the Brutality Pack DLC adds a cool little horde mode. As much as I love Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, I'd say you should just jump in with R3.

Shooters like The House of the Dead.
Time Crisis? (I don't know if Time Crisis have any PS3 version btw)

Ya, there's Time Crisis: Razing Storm for PS3. It's Move enabled and and the retail version comes with Deadstorm Pirates, which is awesome.

Dead Nation is a lot of fun, LBP can be great too but isn't a very directed experience.

Know its not out yet but what about Diablo III? Think its got couch co-op.

Uncharted Co-Op is fun. Unfortunately the PS+ version of U3 is only single player and the F2P multiplayer. The retail versions of U2 and U3 have co-op with no pay wall or anything.

Bionic Commando Re-Armed. too bad it's only offline co-op. no one I know is interested in playing it. :<

LBP is always fun with more people and so is Rayman Origins / Legends.

If you don't mind a shared screen and complete camera priority for player 1, Tokyo Jungle has some great local play fun.

Basically any PixelJunk game. Top ones, IMO, are Monsters, Shooter (I'm lumping 1&2 here), and SideScroller. Top notch buddy action games!

Edit: oh man also Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes. Spent way too many hours going head to head with my roomie in the versus mode. Super fun!

Hey thanks a lot guys! It seems that Dead Nation is a must play, so I think that will be our first purchase. Diablo 3 seems tempting, but after buying it on release day for my MAC and being incredibly disappointed, I don't want to support the game any further.

I am thinking about getting Hard Corps as well, and I still have some more research to do on other recommended games

if you're into fighters, tekken tag 2 is mandatory.

edit: double dragon neon and dragon's crown are EXCELLENT beat em ups. no question.

Rayman Origins
Fighting Games
Resident Evil 5
Hard Corps Uprising
Moon Diver
Portal 2
Critter Crunch
Wipeout HD

I heard the Tales games have co op, never played them.

If either of you are Gundam fans, and don't mind the import route. Gundam vs Gundam Extreme VS is excellent in this regard. Plenty of content, both co-op team, co-op versus. All of this split screen of course. There is a language barrier, but nothing drastic or really offputting plus there's an excellent OT here for the game.

Following that, fighting games were my next in line choice. Otherwise maybe look into some other odd less known stuff? Like Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Scott Pilgram vs the World is another good brawler like the before mentioned Double Dragon Neon.

No mention of Scott Pilgrim? Wife and I love the game. Also any of the Lego games. They are a bit kiddy, but they have ton of collectibles and are a lot of fun.

Uncharted Co-Op is fun. Unfortunately the PS+ version of U3 is only single player and the F2P multiplayer. The retail versions of U2 and U3 have co-op with no pay wall or anything.

Uncharted 2 doesn't have split screen, it's only 3 that does.

Haze is fun enough on the story if you go in expecting the worse and are willing to laugh along with/at it.

If you have any PS1 games with multiplayer you can play those, but if not, may I suggest Crash Team Racing or Bomberman?

Rayman Origins and the Littlebigplanet series.

I think at least most of the COD games have +2 player splitscreen, the newer ones from Black Ops onwards actually have bots for offline multiplayer games too.

So all I have gotten so far is Double Dragon: Neon and the demo of Dead Nation (I am tight on funds, my buddy is not a huge race or side scroll rpg fan). Double Dragon: Neon is the SHIT! We just lost against the final boss earlier today and figured we wouldn't try again until tomorrow.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the recommendations! Once we complete Double Dragon, I'll be coming back to this thread to find a new game to purchase.
