Best online co-op PS4 games?

Been playing a lot of Dark Souls 3 online with a good buddy of mine and we've kind of exhausted it. Great game but we're looking for more online co-op goodness. We've enjoyed all of From Softwares games but are struggling with what to play next. So GAF, what are your favourite co-op games this gen. Cheers for any suggestions

FIF- err I mean God Eater, especially God Eater Resurrection, but all 3 games are good, they're basically faster paced Monster Hunter games and with a much bigger focus on story.

what are your favourite co-op games this gen.

That would be a really long list of games but Rainbow Six Seige, Dying Light and Overwatch are some of my favorites this gen.

Destiny 2. No contest.

Then Monster Hunter ...

Its only no contest if you dont mind the glaring issue of being lied too consitantly for 4 years over the franchise history and most of the cool and intresting armour, ships and mounts going to the premium store in there full priced, season passed game.

MHW you buy you get... full game for full price.

Most coop titles seem to be a huge bomb or full priced money sink this generation. Theres a few good ones on PC but hardly any have reached PS4.

There's like 6 items that cost cash only. If that many to begin with. I can think of like two skins for weapons that where cash only.

Destiny 2 is the best coop game on the market and will continue to be. It even shows it in the numbers. Monster hunter, division and lol anthem have all failed while destiny is still a top 10 game costing day one users over 180$ in a sea of f2p trash. 5 years later.

Try again sucka

Diablo 3 is great fun especially once you get to the end game and start pushing rifts. Borderlands 3 is about to drop and that's alot of fun to ( if part 2 is anything to go by ) co-op however with it just releasing this week I would be wary of the usual growing pains (I.E. connection issues) nowadays. Monster hunter world as mentioned before and the new content that just released is amazing . Don't Starve Together is very very good , relatively cheap, challenging and a ton of fun ONCE you get into the swing of things ... it can have a pretty brutal learning curve but there are a ton of entertaining videos out there to help along .

Destiny 2 is awesome. The division 2 too. too bad that they are 30fps. It's far more enjoyable on PC

Monster Hunter is also best enjoyed at a locked 30 on console as well.

I'd argue that all those games handle 30fps well. I still don't understand the magic behind it... because there's a huge difference between drive club's 30fps and Destiny's. It was explained to me once but it behooves me at the moment.

Regardless... if your option is console don't be held back by their limits. Most of these games, if not all, will move forward to next gen. Granted, I'm not sure Capcom has our characters backed up by cloud saves or on their servers, etc... but I'm hoping they have.

Monster Hunter is one of the handful of Japanese ips that can reach worldwide juggernaut status.

I do want iceborne.

I know everyone is on the borderlands hype train now but that game will mostly be weak as fuck with endgame if the previous games are anthing to go by. I don't like it's emphasis on just playing the campaign and that being it. I know they're trying some new things now but it still seems weak compared to the endgame challenges of the D2's and MonHun.

Thanks very much for the recommendations. Lots to be getting on with by the looks of things. Think I might try Monster Hunter to start with.

It should be noted for as much as I love Monster Hunter. It's one of the grindiest games I've ever played when it comes to crafting gear. That's also the crux of the gameplay loop and the least friendly of anything out there that isn't Black Desert.

Goddamnit I love online games. They essentially took over gaming for me this gen. Usually the most depth to gameplay as well. Haters can hate... but they're wrong and obviously suck at games.

I'm drunk in midtown Manhattan ... however, these are facts.

And don't forget ... warframe is free

I've said LBP3 many times and will go with that, so my answer doesn't change. Little Big Planet 3, I feel in love with the franchise day 1 and it's all about coop.

Wish I was drunk in Manhattan. I'm sober in a very rainy UK!

I had a drunken conversation with a buddy of mine on the train last Friday. Random encounter at two in the morning with my old neighbor/pot and steroids dealer/good friend .

Do you know what we spoke about?

Crota. He's excited about Crota.

I'm telling you guys... Destiny 2 is the only co-op game. Lol

Not a traditional co-op, but I had a blast with A Way Out from Hazelight / EA. Only the person hosting the game needs to own the copy, the second player (either couch or over the internet) just needs the demo and you both can play the full game together. It's a fun 2 - 4 hours of co-op storyline with an interesting twist at the end. It doesn't have the replay value of a lot of the titles listed so far, but was a great co-op diversion.

I'd recommend Remnant: From the Ashes if you're looking for a Souls like game that's relatively cheap. If you own Xbox and have Game Pass, Ashen is another Souls-like game that's pretty decent. Otherwise it's $40 on Epic Store.

No Man's Sky might be worth trying out co-op. I believe it's dirt cheap on PS4....still $50 on xbox because...fuck 'em that's why.

For the King is an indie rpg that I would say is decent. Risk of Rain 2 isn't done yet but you can get it in early access on Xbox or Steam.

Ghost Recon Wildlands should be dirt cheap, but it is the most repetitive game Ive played. I couldn't finish it because I just kept having to do the same crap over and over.

All in all, I'd wait for Borderlands 3 if you like shooters, toilet, dark and slapstick humor all thrown into one game.

Hey !
I also made coop playthroughs with a friend on all Soulsborne games. It was an incredible good time on each game :)

We also had a lot of fun on Dead Nation (a masterpiece for me) and Borderlands 2 (also the first is amazing and the third is releasing soon).

Overcooked 2 is awesome with friends.
World war z is also a good choice.
Remnant from the ashes is a surprisingly a good game.
LBP 3.

Ghost Recon Wildlands was a ton of fun to play in co-op. Breakpoint looks to be shit though from what I played of the beta.
Far Cry 5 was also a lot of fun in co-op.

Ah yes the "Oh but you can just EARN the loot boxes you dont have to buy them"

it takes a very certain type of person to think "oh yeah this is fine" but don't worry your in good company as waves keep buying into this every year in there sports game

however for every sane person that realises and differentiates that drip feeding the bare minimum of loot boxes to a player does not count as content and you are infact by the design of the game itself pushed to buy them heres a list of the "6 items"

That's not all of them just the current seasons but dont worry... there all "earnable" just like players in Fifa and Madden and skins in overwatch. *roles eyes*

Some great recommendations so far.

One that hasn't been mentioned is Outward. It's an indie action/RPG game and isn't without some rough edges, but it's worth playing, especially for the price.

Bloodborne? I had a lot of fun going through the Chalice Dungeons with a close friend of mine.

So remnant looks amazing... Like legit awesome.

Soulsborne online with guns. People seem to be loving it and is making waves in the genre.

Procedural generation is always trash if you ask me but... gameplay looks fantastic, as does the art directikn.

The faux outrage over bright engrams that gave you everything easily was just that a faux outrage. The new grind for bright dust and direct purchase is actually worse and takes longer if you care about that worthless shit.

And bright dust is in abundance as a free currency.

Weakass argument

Just because you shout "fake news" dousent make it so, the fact you actually come out and say they made it harder for direct purchases by increasing the grind helps cement my point, the point I am making.

Destiny 2 exists as a glorified store front for MTX, you have literally just said they changed the way the game works to make it harder and more time consuming to earn the store purchase stuff by playing for free, that's the whole point the reward system for a looter shooter has been compromised to make way for monitisation at expense of player enjoyment.

look I get it your a lost cause mr "only 6 items, fake news" but please dont drag other people into your cult of the MTX by getting there hope's up that Destiny 2 is the best coop title on a platform when the only thing it delivers on was the promise to effectively monetise there consumer base by triple dripping with Full Price, Season Pass loot box's MTX store.

I quote every single word

As of now, I played it like 1700 hours ,not bad for a total expense of 180$

I bought 60$ games who were worth 10 hours of gameplay, then I put them in the shelf and almost never touched again

Aside from D2, I add MH world, siege ( who's without any doubt my second best recommendation after Destiny, no matter who you play with, it's a blast anyway ), TLOU remastered online is pretty great too, but I played my last game a life ago, so dunno what's the current status
Overwatch - never played, but literally every friend of mine talk gold about it -, and For Honor

But price for hour / fun ratio, Destiny 2 is the monster, you can basically download it for free or buy it retail for a pizza's price, then decide if you want to invest more in it

Are the loot boxes even necessary in the game? I only played the first Destiny so it is probably different, but I got through the whole story without feeling like I need to buy anything. Has that changed in Destiny 2? Do you need to either farm like mad or buy into the mtx to finish the game?

Are you still ranting about cosmetic items like a beach ball ghost shell as loot?

The in-game eververse store is legit worthless and by no means offers any real loot.

Like it's alrwsdy obvious you're talking out of your ass. I can see that as an actual player of the game.

They didn't make it harder or more time consuming. They made it direct to purchase for a "hug" emote and mini-sparrow instead of it dropping from those "loot boxes" you spoke of. The loot boxes don't currently exist for year 2 consmetics. It's direct to purchase and when I scrapped all the eververse shit I got from the game just by playing ... over 25k in bright dust.

Talk about real content ... oh wait. You base all your shit off on reddit drive-bys.

Real content like Zero Hour, Thorn, thunderlord... was free no less.

"But but they locked the SSJ fusion dance emote to eververse"

Destiny has the least offensive implementation of MTs than any game. Additionally, it's actual paid for content offers a colossal amount of actual loot and activities.

Bitch about why you suck in pvp instead.

Um, all the Destiny games fucking suck - can you please shut up about them already? We get it, you've spent close to a grand to buy/play 1 game; good for you.

Monster Hunter is the game you want. D3 is absolutely horrible compared to D2, but I guess we don't have any other option. It's quite fun.

Monster Hunter even with its new expansion doesn't have half the players of D2 during a dead season, which is now. And the metrics are comparable ... both games sold thru 16 million worldwide.

And Monster Hunter is the most grindiest game on the planet that's not Warframe. Kill snagleraptor 10,000 times... only aim at its right arm so you can gather a specific nail clipping for some boots.

Monster Hunter gets a lot of love because it's a Japanese darling and it is great. It's still mostly a single player hack n slash with clunky controls.

The depth of its co-op is simply damage scaling however.

So yea, Destiny is still the better co-op game.

Bought Remnant last night. The shooting is tight. Haven't been this excited about a souls game since... GoW

You heard it here first folks 3 guns are "content" amazing

It definitely goes along way to explain why people think spending £15 on a Call of Duty map pack is acceptable these days.

also sorry I only play PvP games with an actual competitive scene, I notice destiny has always lacked that oh gee I wonder why.

There's not much more needed to prove you talk out of your ass.

Zero hour wasn't just a gun. It was a 3-player dungeon that is some of the best actual content in the game.

What else do you want answers to for your cluelessness? I can give you time to search reddit for answers...

I will admit that 3 hours of content is likely to be the best content the game has to offer as it has literally doubled it completion time from launch.

come back when you have that comptetative scene mr fake news 6 items.

No, the raids are the best content and there are five soon to be six. Then the dungeons are the next best content, there's 3 of those too.

But destiny is an actual co-op games that requires actually playing with groups.

So... jabron... keep talking out of your ass

Lol at the first part. It is true, though, can't argue with that.

The controls, I think, are pretty good right now, maybe not perfect but beyond amazing compared to the portable games.

You are right about the coop part though. It is kind of a shame there isn't any real incentive to play it with others. It just gives the monsters more HP.
