Best programs for converting PSP Videos?

For a while I've been using PSP Video 9, a freeware program that can convert any video to be played on the PSP, with the portable system's aspect ratio but also in a respectably high quality.

But recently I hit a snag where some video files will play with the audio out of synch. I took a look at the Video 9 forums, where it's been confirmed to be a common problem. However, the author of the program has also said that he has no plans to update the firmware, leaving people to come up with these complicated and lengthy fixes for the audio.

So instead, I'm asking you what other programs work just as well as PSP Video 9. One click convenience, no audio problems, automatic PSP aspect ratio, and high quality. Please recommend me some programs.
 
I usually use PSP Video 9, but it's been a while since I've done this, so something else may have come along since then. Either way, it's a good program.
 
Is there a way to rip DVDs to PSP as one file? When I rip them, they're usually several files. And I also don't want the damn non-English versions or the supplementary material.

And I would also like to have them ripped at 720x480, but PSP Video9 *always* rips them at a lower resolution, no matter what profile I select. What gives?
 
Ah good. Well let me ask a question since the one i asked in the M33 thread was unanswered.

Does the PSP play converted videos in its native resolution?

Oh, and to contribute. Super is a program i will use.

You can use something like DVDShrink to rip the VOB directly, and exclude additional audio tracks or subtitle data. Make sure you disable the "1GB chunks" option in the settings to get one large file. From there, use another converter mentioned in the thread to encode to another format.

No reason to keep them at 720x480 if you're just going to watch them on the PSP, though.
 
Handbrake is available for Mac, PC, and Linux. So no matter hat your poison is they have you covered. I just cue up a bunch of episodes of TV on DVD and then let it rip.
 
I agree with the XVid4PSP recommendation. I tried a number of options: ffmpeg, mencoder, and Video 9, and I found XVid4PSP to gave me two very important features that pushed it ahead of the others:
1. Output that consistently worked.
2. The ability to burn subtitles from an srt file into the output.
 
Used to use psp video 9 for normal avis, recently swapped to the sony media manager thing, i actually really like the media manager. PSP video 9 is hard to beat for free programs, but if you have 16 bucks to drop grab the media manager off sony's download software site.

As far as the out of sync audio, you might have to run the file through another conversion prog 1st, i had a problem with psp video 9 and wmv files.

MKV files are always a pain in the ass, i still havent found a good method for those yet.

You can do both with ffmpeg/mencoder if used correctly.

I have a batch file that might help with that.
 
I don't really want to run the files through one thing before sending it to another, or any other hassles. I just want a one-click convenience, so if that involves a different program, so be it.

All you do is drag the video file onto the batch. That is 1 click, after you set up the values in the config batch. XD
I don't that batch is only for mkv files though, dunno if it works with avi.

Doesn't the PSP output at 720x480 to the television, though? Or, is it something funky, like 480x272 in 16:9 and 362x272 in 4:3?

To me, it LOOKS ike 720x480 on my screen, though.

Also, I'll try your DVD Shrink suggestion. I used that years back, but I was using the decryptor program exclusively now.
 
Does Xvid4PSP have a problem working on Vista? I tried encoding the same video twice, and it encodes it all the way, but once I play it back on my PSP it gives up halfway with a "video cannot be played" message.

Should I try a different program for Vista?
 
Does anyone know which program listed can encode WMVs well?

I tried with my own program but the GT5P opening ended up looking like it was 5 FramesPS.
 
I used to use pspvideo9 a lot, but haven't used it since I try ripbot264, it's not a 1 button solution and it doesn't generate thumbnail so I have to go make one myself later on, but I like the ability to add subtitles on the video.

haven't used pspvid9 for a long time, can you add subtitle on it now?
 
I also use PSP Video 9. Extremely easy to use and it basically walks you through all of the steps. Geico's "So easy, even a caveman can do it" applies perfectly to the software.

But unlike the OP I have yet to run into his little problem. Does it only occur under certain situations?

I use Video 9 for PSP/PS3 right now, but I'm always looking for something better. I think there's a windows version of handbrake out there, by the way.
 
I used PSPVideo9 a couple times recently and was very dissapointed in the results. Once the voice was in a foreign language (my fault) so I wasted aton of time and then the next movie was in English, but half way through the movie, the voice was out of sync. I spent so long on those with failed results I haven't tried ripping a DVD since. I think I will try one of these programs tonight.
 
How about converting a video that is already in a psp format to something else, i.e. so I can play it on my zune?

I use Internet Video Converter (IVC) for transcoding. It's free, based on ffmpeg and gives decent results...does FLV too.

You need to turn UAC off while using xvid4psp on Vista.

Also I'll second the recommendations for xvid4psp but qualify it by saying I only recommend version 4, version 5 seems much more dumbed down and there doesn't seem to be a way to select subtitle streams that are embedded in mkv files.
 
Since my PC died, I only now have my Mac for my conversion needs. Aside from Handbrake, are there any other Mac PSP/PS3 conversion programs?
 
Does xvid4psp allow full resolution playback (e.g. 480x272 or higher)? When outputting from a slim, I need all the quality I can get...
