<3 Its fun to play too :)

Other ones I forgot:

Sigur Ros - Untitled 4
Asobi Seksu - Strawberries
The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt. 1
Deftones - Minerva (what crap album though!)
The Arcade Fire - Wake Up

Uhh... I guess I don't listen to riffy stuff.

P. Diddy - Bad Boy For Life
The Roots - Water
Gorilaz - Feel Good Inc
Headlights - Hi-Ya!

?

I always have to mention Jimmy Eat World's Get It Faster when riffs come up. Switchfoot's Meant To Live and Politicians are also impressive IMO.

Interpol - C'mere
Doves - Almost Forgot Myself
Gamma Ray - Fight
Falconer - The Clarion Call
In Flames - Trigger
Filter - You Walk Away
Garbage - Why Do You Love Me
Oasis - The Importance Of Being Idle
Prozzak - When I Think Of You
Rob Zombie - Demon Speeding
Saves The Day - Anywhere With You
The Stills - Still In Love Song
The Real McKenzies - Across The Ocean
The Strokes - 12:51
Interpol - Evil
Wintersun - Beyond The Dark Sun
Zebrahead - Playmate Of The Year

some of my favorites.

Mastodon - "March of the Fire Ants"
I nominate "Seabeast," that closing riff. That shit is crushing.

I like No One Knows by QOTSA, but isn't that riff very similar to one used by Radio Head in one of their songs? I can't remember which song. Does someone know what I'm talking about?

I have no idea what you're talking about.
No One Knows is a bit too rockin' to sound like anything Radiohead has done. No offense Radiohead fans, as I'm one myself, but c'mon :P

Error: Nice list, looks like you put a lot of thought into it. "Almost Forgot Myself" is indeed a pretty nice, calm, distant kind of riff.

I guess it does sound vaguely like "Electioneering"...but not really. I'm not seeing similarities with any other songs.

Dragonforce - Through the fire and the flames (all that song is- riff upon riff).... And although I really hated the cd and didn't think the song was too good, Revolution is my Name by Pantera is riff-tastic.

Last decade, I was a metal fan then, so I may be able to give you a better example for the 90's and 80's, and I say:

Greatest Metal Riff of all time : Post Mortem - Slayer. It is so evil! I love it still! **** Master of Puppets.

Yes, i think Electioneering is what i'm thinking of. In my mind the openings sound quite similar, but i haven't heard electioneering in years so i probably am way off.

Will Haven - Miguel encontro la fe otra vez

Pretty much every riff of that track is incredible. But other tracks from the same album (Saga, Dressed in Night Clothes, Alpha Male) also have fantastic riffs.

Nevermore - The River Dragon has Come EVERY damn riff in the song. Amazing riff's through the whole thing.

Nevermore - Born - The chorus riff

Pain of Salvation - Undertow - the intro riff

Katatonia - Soil's song - the heavier riff. it's fairly simple but the way it times itself with the rest of the song is wonderful.

Dark Tranquillity - The New Build - the Riff in the breakdown section.

Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground...and I dont know. The intro riff and the chorus are great.

That one song by the arctic monkeys has a good riff in it....scummy man or something like that.

I can't even think of anything else from this decade I play on guitar.

OH yea, c'mon c'mon by the von bondies is a good riff.

Oh yeah, here's one I forgot about:

The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So

I just listened to that song and realized that it's really just that one riff played over and over!

ANY of Teppei's riffs off of Illusion of safety.

Thank GOD someone around here realizes this man's musical talent. The guy is freaking insane!

Where do you even start on that album? So Strange I Remember You? The Beltsville Crucible? And how could you not recognize Deadbolt's riff?

Great, great thread. Soooo many good answers so far, but I'll throw in a few that I especially like:

Billy Talent - Devil in a Midnight Mass
I think this band is pretty underrated, and this riff is an awesome kick start to their latest album.

Andrew W.K. - She is Beautiful
This song starts out with a stupid starter riff, but once it gets going, it really gets going. Ultimate pump-up riff.

Cake - The Distance
Undeniably cool riff.

Every Time I Die - Apocalypse Every Now and Then
Heavy stuff.

He Is Legend - The Seduction
I've always liked this riff, even if I've kind of grown out of the band.

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
Extremely overplayed, but it retains its awesomeness. The build up to the main riff is the best part of the song.

Jimmy Eat World - Authority Song
Someone already said Get It Faster, and that would've been my first choice from this CD, but Authority Song comes in a close second.

Jimmy Eat World - Futures
Oops, same band. I love a good riff to kick off a CD, and that's exactly what this song gives.

Lovedrug - Pandamoranda
Uncharacteristically heavy riff for this band.

My Chemical Romance - Thank You For The Venom
Suck it. Equally awesome solo to boot.

NOFX - The Separation of Church and Skate
Pretty sweet. Fun to play as well.

Rage Against the Machine - Testify
The Strokes - Reptilia
System of a Down - BYOB
Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - The Angels' Share
Tenacious D - Keilbasa

Feels weird choosing "best riff" but I guess I'll go with:

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum- "1997"

and Diablos, how can a riff that sounds like its from the 90s be the best 00s riff? That doesn't sound like a very good reason :/

The guitar on that album was my BIBLE back in 02.

Every track has atleast 2 or 3 killer hooks, theres no way of just picking a few. (To awake and avenge the dead was my favourite way back when though).

I like the direction theyve taken, and am totally down with the last two records. But nothing will ever touch IOS.

Because riffing like it was last decade is more or less dead in the mainstream, so it's nice to know there's a band that got popular this decade not forgetting how to rock.
