I'm not here to say this is the best game on the list. In fact, it's the only one I downloaded on the VC of all the ones people have listed in the thread (my loss, I know). But I am here to say that Soldier Blade is awesome as hell.

I'm not here to say this is the best game on the list. In fact, it's the only one I downloaded on the VC of all the ones people have listed in the thread (my loss, I know). But I am here to say that Soldier Blade is awesome as hell.
Ok, Radiant Silvergun MAY be the Saturn's equivalent of Axelay but it at least has some pretty creative boss battles. Scoring system and level design is absolute shit, though.
Ikaruga's chaining system is a little better but still nearly the antithesis of shooter design.
Both of these games have good aesthetics, but they're mediocre mechanically.
Gradius V rules, though, even if I still dislike the fact that the fuckin' game doesn't have a Moai head stage.
Wait what? That's a shame because R-Type TG-16 rules.

Axelay is horribly overrated. It's a solid 3/5 game, but apart from a few snazzy effects, it's got nothing on UN Squadron. If that's on the store, get that. Amazing enhanced port of the arcade.

IREM's TG16 stuff was pulled off VC when they went under but came back in like September 2013 with Hudson as the publisher. You should still be able to buy it.
Didn't know that! I just assumed it was everything IREM. Is Ninja Spirit still back up there?
It's very good. I think Contra Rebirth is way better than Wayforward's Contra 4 too.
I think pretty much anything is better than stuff from Wayforward!
But, yeah, that Contra Rebirth really got the Crazy/Bro feel of the SNES title down right. That Vania Rebirth is no slouch either!
