Shame on GAF for no one mentioning this earlier.

Oh yeah, that untitled black and white Western, I forgot about that one.

Do you really expect everyone to know what this is?

I know your post seems a lot cooler without the name, but it's really not, sorry.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

If you don't know that scene then you've never seen the movie so it doesn't matter.

Road to Perdition has been mentioned many times but for me it's the films final shot that is the most surprising even though inevitable (and heartbreaking).

Can't find a still but:

Walter Donovan: [points a gun at Indy] The Grail is mine. And you're going to get it for me.
Indiana Jones: Shooting me won't get you anywhere.
Walter Donovan: You know something, Dr. Jones? You're absolutely right.
[He shoots Henry in the stomach]

It matters if somebody wants to watch that scene to see whats so good about it. Leaving the name of the movie out is just stupid.

Road to Perdition actually has a couple of contenders, in terms of impact. The one near the end, when everything is quiet... and boom.

Although I do like the Costner Single Action Army blast;

I prefer the Robert Duvall's boom stick scene. J Stevens 1878 Coach Gun "spray gun"

What about
Ross (Paddy Considine) getting sniped in the station
in The Bourne Ultimatum? The way his head snaps back is brutal.
You get another, slightly more graphic POV
in The Bourne Legacy.

Of the ones that haven't been mentioned yet...

Flock of Seagulls in Pulp Fiction.

Shotgun blast to the face in Maniac.

I recently re-watched the movie (Legacy) on Bluray and I didn't notice anything particularly graphic about that assassination.

I really really love this movie though, and I'd like to nominate two gunshots from The Bourne Legacy.

1)
Aaron shooting down the drone with his sniper rifle. This is one of the coolest moments I have seen on film. This technically isn't a single gunshot, as I believe it took Aaron three sniper rifle shots before the drone went down, but what I love about this scene is the way Aaron calmly disassembles his sniper rifle after he has disabled the drone. And while Aaron is calmly taking apart the rifle, the drone, on fire, is hurdling towards the ground in the background
.

2)
During the scene at the doctor's country cottage, the final killing shot on the female CIA agent was pretty cool. Aaron leaves the cottage through a bottom-floor exit, climbs up to the top floor, enters through a top-floor window and then neutralizes the agent. I love the way the camera panned up in that moment
.

I love the look of wood splintering, this looks awesome. Might watch it. I've seen The Wild Bunch and the Bale/Crowe western, which other westerns have amazing action?
