I (finally convinced the wife and) am getting a PS3 after work this afternoon.
$500 is still about $100 too much for what the PS3 offers at this point in time, but my experience with the 360 made me paranoid about software-emulated backwards compatability (RSC2 or bust). A lot of my games are 'niche', and I want an EE in the box for peace of mind. I also want a BD player, and 5 meh movies for free isn't too bad of a bonus. Also, for some reason, HOME excites the hell out of me. There isn't a lot on the system that truly interests me besides VF5 and RR7, but there is some great looking stuff on the horizon.
To soften the blow, I decided earlier this week to do the generational game library purge to get rid of all the games I'll
probably never really miss until I can get them for $3 used in a year or two. I also traded in about 60 DVD's...anything that hasn't been watched in the past year. I should end up with about $200+ in credit, and $300ish for the system is totally justifiable IMO.
I just have to make Phantom of the Opera one of my free movie picks. Wife's stipulation.
