Best voice acting performances in gaming?

Mamoru Miyano voices Okabe from Steins;Gate and is simply amazing, my favorite. He just conveys Okabe's feelings so well, the sadness, the anger, and of course, when he is the MAD SCIENTIST!! I love it. He also voices Ryuji in P5. The Japanese P5 cast is great overall btw.

There's Megumi Ogata too. She voices Naegi from Danganronpa, but her performance as Komaeda in Danganronpa 2 is just glorious, seriously. She also voices Ken in Persona 3 (I know this because of the movies btw).

Also, not exclusive to games, but every Dragon Ball game with Masako Nozawa (Goku, Gohan, Goten, Bardock, Turles and now also Black lol) deserves to be mentioned.

Doug Cockle as Geralt of Rivia is one of the absolute best performances.

The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 have really great voice casting overall (with it being at least solid for minor/inconsequential characters). I've heard that the Polish dub is even better, but I've grown very attached to the English voices at this point, for good reason.

You heard the voice, didn't you? Honestly, Ignis's VA was such a delight to listen to every time he spoke a line.

YES. How could I ever forget this one! I'll never hear the word recipe without smiling ever again.

Also, Solid Snake, Liquid Snake, Psycho Mantis, and especially Grey Fox in MGS1.
There's so many quotable moments in that game that cause one to want to imitate them all! Grey Fox's monologue about his guilt regarding Naomi (and combined with that music) gives me goosebumps to this day!

And let's see... Dunban in Xenoblade.

Nathan Fillion and Lance Reddick in Destiny.

Billy Zane and Haley Joel in KH1.

Tim Kitzrow as the voice of NBA Jam.

I'll name few games rather than inviduals. Witcher 2 and 3, first one had some issues. Grim Fandango, especially Tony Plana gives unforgettable perfomance. Firewatch, the two leads are excellent. Maybe the best example of gripping and natural dialogue in any game. It's incredible how well they play off each other, there's real chemistry there.

I love all the voice acting in Dark Souls 3. It's one of the few games where the acting really draws you into the game and makes the overall experience so much better.

Troy Baker, and Ashley Johnson in The Lost of Us were breathtakingly good and felt very alive and natural. It's what makes this game excels despite it's cliche plot, and game setting. I also would like to mention Batman Arkham games with the incredible Mark Hamill performance as the Joker.

i really loved the voice acting in dark souls III. every character felt so personal and genuine, and fits the dreary ass atmosphere perfectly. that, and even when they talk all old-timey, they have a masterful way of making it sound as cool as possible

Well said. It's my personal favorite of best voice acting in any game.

I have to say - 9s (Nier Automata), especially the English dub. I usually play my jrpgs in Japanese, but the performances of the English cast made me play this in English.. I just started this game - the music and voice acting are so good.

Also:
- Nathan Drake (Uncharted series)
- Ryuji (Persona 5)
- Ellie (Last of Us)
- Alistair (Dragon Age Origins)
- Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn)

Troy Baker/Ashley Johnson in TLOU. Nolan North/Emily Rose/Richard McGonagle in the Uncharted series. The games wouldn't be nearly as good as they are without the above performances.

EDIT: The last 3 are all involved in what I'd consider the best cutscene in a game, or at least one of.

Bayonetta. So confident and sassy.

The Prophet of Truth in Halo 2. Bungie were so dumb to recast him in Halo 3. I still cringe thinking about the making-of doc where they're patting themselves on the back for their terrible choice.

The game may not have been loved that much, but Bioshock Infinite had the best voice acting/emotional inflection and delivery I've seen in a game. It has yet to be topped.

Zelda recently set the bar for the WORST voice acting I've heard I a AAA game in reverent memory.

Maybe not my all-time favorite, but one character who suddenly stands out in my brain is Karin Koenig from Shadow Hearts: Covenant. Voiced by Kari Wahlgren, who also voiced Haruhara Haruko in FLCL and currently voices Jessica in Rick and Morty. Fun!

Anywho, I just remember really being drawn to her voice in SH:C, conveying just the right amount of motherly that was essential to her character. Memory has a funny way of making the past look and sound better, but we all know the Nolan North's and Ashly Burch's of the current VO video game scene, so I thought I would throw in an oldie but a goodie.

Ignis was definitely one of the highlights of FFXV despite how disappointing it was. His voice actor exuded charm and I was fawning every time I saw him on screen. That accent and excellent voice performance + his looks: 10/10.

I swear I just read this whole thread and barely saw any mention of Nolan North. He set the bar last gen with Drake, and kept raising it in each subsequent UC game. He's played so many great characters though including his awesome Penguin.

For a game about pole dancing witches, Bayonetta 1 has some top-tier voice direction. Bayonetta and Jeanne are particularly impressive; I love how their pre-battle cutscenes involve them trading backhanded sass with these wilting voices. They both show some range too, with Bayonetta taking on different tones with Cereza (while still staying in character), and Jeanne undergoing some drastic changes later in the game.

Maybe not the best performance but I think the small bits of voice acting in Souls games deserve praise.

It always seems well directed and adds a lot of character to the world. Love the creepy laughs. "Muahahaha".

But ND games for sure, Nate and Elena playing Crash is an example of what makes ND games so special.
