Best Way to Cook Salmon?

My boyfriend doesn't like seafood, so we never buy fish. I actually love seafood. But, I don't have any experience cooking salmon. Now, I'm not a complete novice in the kitchen, but I'm not an advanced cook either. I generally hate to cook. How do you usually cook salmon? What's a good, preferably fast and easy way to cook it?

Fast and easy is just some spice, lemon, butter and put in an oven for 20-30 min or until it reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

People in my family like cooking salmon with soysauce and ginger and baked in oven.

Always love it when its a dish at the family dinners :)

Salmon is always cooked fast unless smoking it.

Brush the salmon with some butter and garlic. Sprinkle on some salt and pepper as well as some dill. Add thin lemon slices on top and cook for 8 to 12 minutes.

Edit: oven at 400 degrees and place the salmon on tinfoil.

Plenty of good recipes for baking salmon out there that I've used and really liked. Look up some recipes!

For the record, I generally despise seafood, but I do really enjoy salmon. Maybe your boyfriend will as well.

Get rid of the dill and this is perfect advice.

Salmon shouldn't need 30 min to cook. 5 minutes per 1/2 inch of salmon at 425 is the standard.

As for sauce - Tbl spoon of butter, Tbl spoon of white wine, 1/2 Tbl spoon of capers, pinch of salt. Yummmm.

full filet on tinfoil

offset Smoker at about 250 degrees for about 60 minutes give or take.

50/50 black pepper and kosher salt rub on the top. spread 4 tablespoons of butter evenly dispersed across the fish.

If you don't have a smoker, just make sure you don't overcook it. Everyone overcooks fish.

Brine for 30 minutes, vacuum seal, "sous vide" in 130f water bath for 20 minutes, one minute sear (skin down) in a hot skillet with melted butter.

Raw over rice.

Get a big filet with skin on.
Place on baking sheet or foil skin down.
Preheat oven to 400.
Pat the salmon mostly dry with paper towel.
Grind a small bit of fresh pepper over filet.
Sprinkle with dried dill weed or use fresh dill.
Drizzle lightly with olive oil.
Bake for around 10 minutes.
Take it out and let it "finish cooking" on the hot baking pan.
Grind some sea salt over the top lightly.

Enjoy your delicious salmon. Makes great leftovers and pairs well with Jasmine rice and steamed vegetables.

If it's skin on, pan seared is the only way to go.

  1. Pat salmon dry with paper towel and dust with salt and pepper
  2. Heat oil in a a cast iron or stainless steel pan until shimmering.
  3. Put salmon skin side down and cook for about six minutes, reducing the heat to medium/low after the first minute. Press down if skin begins to curl to ensure full contact with cooking surface.
  4. Flip salmon skin side up and cook for an additional minute
  5. Salmon should be between 110-120 degrees

If you have a particularly thick cut of salmon you can put a lid on the pan to trap the heat and cook the top side more. Pan searing it with the skin side down will crisp the skin and give it an awesome texture. It's also hard to overcook the salmon this way because you can monitor the temperature or check for albumin starting to show.

For a sauce, I prefer a salmoriglio for my fish. Dice 2-4 cloves of garlic and 2 tablespoons of parsley, and get half a teaspoon of lemon zest. Mix those with 1/4 cup olive oil and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix well. I actually do that in a food processor. Top the fish with sauce and serve.

I prefer pan searing a fillet to get a crispy layer of skin. Cooked medium well.

Over cooked baked salmon is grosssss.

I actually want to try and learn to cook swordfish. I always see it on the menu and plan to order it, then something else catches my attention.

Swordfish cooks very similar to salmon. You could follow the same (correct) instructions in this thread.

Depends, if your salmon still has the skin you just cook it like fried eggs over easy. Season with lemon juice, garlic and a little bit of salt. Simple and delicious.

Bake it, and you can bake it with just pepper salt and olive oil uncovered.
Also please make sure its not farm raised. get Wild only.

The easiest method is to fry the salmon in butter, medium high heat, with some salt and peppar. Serve with lemon or lime

Let the pan heat up, medium high, and add butter and a little oil, let the butter melt.
Put in the salmon, some salt and peppar, fry for 2-3 minutes.
Turn the salmon over, add some salt and peppar and wait 2-3min.
Done

Didn't see anybody mention this method

edit: yupp people mentioned it

Pan fry it, or wrap it in foil, put a bit of olive oil and water with it and oven it at 200C for 30 mins.
Salmon fillets are the tits.

salt and pepper. butter and oil on a pan. fry it on one side until about halfway cooked, flip it and cook the rest. keep basting with butter. perfection.

I still need to try it with salmon skin, the ones i buy are always skinless. I read that for salmon skin you should start with a cold pan, is that right?
