Carmela wasn't written by Sorkin at his peak.

Also never performed The Jackal, but I guess that was less writing and more Allison Janney having a weird talent.

Lindsay in Freaks and Geeks deserves a mention too.

My answer was Carmela Soprano as soon as I saw the thread title. She manages to be as compelling as the gangster characters or more. She also serves as the main force for keeping Tony grounded in his family life and what we would all think of as the "real world" without coming off as a shrew.

Runner up is Peggy from Mad Men. You've come a long way, baby.

You have got to be kidding me.

Annoying, over reacting, cheating, spiteful and unreasonable.

What a great character.

The topic is about how well written the character is, not how much you like her. Skyler is written wonderfully.

My vote goes to Peggy though.

i gave up on nikita during season 3. i'll get back to it when it comes on netflix.

no cw show has the best written anything, even if their shows can be very entertaining (looking at you Arrow)

Carmela Soprano

runner ups: Atia from Rome, Peggy Olsen

Season 1 and 2 Nikita had some of the best written female characters on TV with Nikita and Amanda. Seriously yo.
