Beta footage for the Xbox 1 version of Kameo

I could be wrong... maybe my memory is faulty... but didn't Kameo originally start out on N64? I was sure about the time that Dinosaur Planet was first being showed off that they also showed an early demo for Kameo... it may not even have been called Kameo at the time, but the gameplay and art style was DEFINITELY Kameo.

It started as a Gamecube title actually.

Impressive. Not too far off from the 360 version, and that was a great looking game.

Speaking of Xbox 1 games with beastly graphics...

Don't have any particular attachment to Kameo, but just wanted to say that's a cool website you've got going there Borman. I love reading about and seeing the things that went on in early builds of games.

They where developing Kameo 2 but Microsoft cancelled it, apparently it was going to have a more realistic look (at least that's what I heard over the rumors).

There's not much rumor when we have animation tests and the likes for the game floating around the internet. It was going to be more realistic.

Kameo looks awesome on the ol' box! Looks like it could have been pulled of on the older tech.

Side note:Condemned by far was best launch title.

I started playing Kameo again recently and it's cool to see the major improvements they were able to accomplish with the 360. You see similarities with the assets but the difference overall is huge.

Your site is fucking awesome. Great job getting your hands on all of this stuff, I love it.

Also, RIP the OG Xbox. So many good times...

Glad you like it! Not to spam up the thread or anything, but since I doubt my site will be in the regular rotation for anyone, it does have a Facebook page, and I do post updates to my Twitter. I have a few more unreleased titles coming soon, but none as big as Kameo (yet...).

Great, that looks really incredible for a last gen game. Considering this game was (almost) done one year prior to 360's release, Rare could have better used the time to make a sequel for 360 for its second year :/.

If any developers want to send me a message, anonymously or not, about this or any other game, I am more than willing to listen!

On the Xbox 1 it looked great, but on the 360 it looks mediocre. Such a shame that Microsoft didn't let them release this on the first one and possibly build a fan-base.

I really like the bright colors it uses. It makes it pop. This game would have been a beats had it been released on the Xbox.

Yeah, just like Conker: Live and Reloaded. >_>

By 2005, the original Xbox wasn't the focus anymore. Everyone was getting hyped up for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft quickly abandoned the original, kinda like how Nintendo usually does it for their systems. I think Microsoft made a good decision by moving some titles from the Xbox to the 360, but letting Rare know last minute was not smart.

Game was amazing.

Played it on my 360 at launch and in HD it could have easily passed for a launch title. Easily.

Im still not sure why Conker died as quick as it did.

I guess I'm the only one so far, but I think there is a significant difference between the Xbox beta and the launch game on 360. It's like night and day if you ask me!

There's an obvious difference, but it still looks really, really good, and you can tell that it is essentially the same game.

Some comparison shots, all in similar locations. To be fair, I have used both the Xbox and the 360's native capturing tools through XB neighborhood:

Ah yes, Kameo. Played it this or last year, even did a LttP to this. I personally love that game, and it's quite strange how some areas look so good while others look quite bad. The Enchanted Kingdom still is one of the best-looking areas I ever seen.
I wonder how much they actually planned for this game - I kinda have the feel that there could've been more.Oh well, going to look at the videos now.

Ah, ok, so there wasn't any wasteland in this version and you only got to the other areas by the gates. I wonder if there are some areas that are actually unused. The forest temple, especially, was just two rooms and I really wonder if there are any hints that there was supposed to be more.

Thanks for uploading the game! You need a Xbox debug kit to run it or are there any other means?

Debug kit is the way to go. People are having crashing issues on modded Xboxs. Modified 360s seem to work as well, but with issues.

Kameo has a charm.

Kameo 2 would own but lol at MS-Rare twisted relationship that spits one game per decade and cancels 9 prototypes.

Level 5 weren't technically capable of implementing elements that them and Microsoft had come to an agreement on, so the project was canceled and Level 5 basically took Microsoft's money to make games for Sony.

Where did you read that explanation?, I heard something quite different.. curious as to which is the truth now.

does anyone remember b.c?

I remember all the hype surrounding this game and in the blink of an eye, it was cancelled. does anyone know why? too ambitious to be done on the xbox? or was it peter overselling what he could deliver like with the fable games?

It's on my list of things to find. This year has been quite productive, from Star Wars Battlefront 3, to Stargate SG-1, to this, among other lesser titles.

For True Fantasy Live Online, I recall it being a bunch of things, but I know Microsoft was really being strict about their guidelines for Xbox Live, one of them being required voice chat. Id imagine many issues came up relating to Microsoft's dealing with third parties, especially Japanese, something that wasn't unheard of at the time.
