Bethesda ported Skyrim to Xbox One for development learnings

Keep in mind it was confirmed that it has been "ported."

That doesn't mean its optimized or in a playable state for release.

They ported it to xbox one to learn the machine but didnt ported it to ps4 ?
I have a bad feeling about fallout ps4 version of the game.

I totally expect the PS4 version to have some weird anomalies not found in the XB1 version.

Another AC Unity / Wticher 3 situation.

Meh I'd hate it to be a MGS 4 Vita situation. Would insta plat it on PS.

It was obviously ported on Xbox because favorite console. Bethesda expressed often enough how positive they felt about Microsoft etc.

Skyrim released right about the time my daughter was born. So needless to say, I never got around to playing it. I'd be all over an HD remake.

This is just like when IW "ported" Call of Duty 2 to PS3 to get ready for developing Modern Warfare, wasn't released as a product but helped their team get to understand the PS3 better.

Thanks to the mods for changing the title, but I found out about this on Twitter, which of course still has the original.

Hahahaha!

I already figured XB1 was the lead platform. This just confirms it.

They better not have put in less work for the PS4 version.

EDIT-

I'm taking about development in general and how that would be related to FO4.

I wouldn't buy it, but I can't think of a reason not to release it if it's in a semi playable state. It's not like Bethesda is shy about releasing broken products.

You'd think after the last two Fallouts and the state of Skyrim on PS3 for months after release that they would have learned their lesson, especially when they don't have the 'challenging PS3 architecture' argument this time.

We shall see though.

Curious they didn't attempt to port it on the PS4 as a learning exercise (unless due to marketing partnership they can't make that statement?) considering how poor their ports to the PS systems have been in the past. Very little faith in Bethesda doing a competent job with FO4, the games not on my radar because of their previous failings...

I would gladly purchase this on the PS4.

The game was an absolute mess on the PS3 and severely hindered my chance of enjoying this game.

My 'favourite' PS3 bug came when I launched it after months on the shelf for the Dragonborne DLC (I think that's what it was called). Suddenly, whenever my character made contact with water, the PS3 would seize up completely and require a hard reset.

Turned out that although my game was fully updated, I had to delete the game data and download the update again to get rid of the bug.

Skyrim PS3 was not ready for primetime at all when launched. I think there's an argument that it was on a par with the recent botched Batman Arkham Knight PC version, but Bethesda got away with it. I don't think they will get away with such a disaster this time.

I never thought about it, but I'd definately pick it up for PS4 if they were magically able to fix their engine and boost the graphics significantly.

interesting how they ported it to xbox one and not ps4.

either because xb1 is weaker, easier to work with because of directx, or they just like microsoft more.

edit: also i wouldn't be surprised if they don't do bc for skyrim because they have a copy of the game for xb1 that they haven't decided whether they would release or not

Not that surprising, I get the feeling the industry as a whole expected Xbox One to steamroll PS4 if you go back to like 1-1.5 years before release.

Ouch, yeah, it will probably DESTROY Bethesda's credibility in the console space for the rest of the gen if they release a botched PS4 version when the PS4 is the dominant console. And history has shown us with ACUnity that it is somehow possible to release an inferior PS4 version.

Man, it bugs me though how Fallout 3, NV, and Skyrim on PS3 had so many issues - After Oblivion's PS3 version was effectively the best console version of Oblivion.

It's quite possible that they chose to port it to Xbox One since it's the tougher console to work with due to ESRAM. Unless MS completely funds the port, it's safe to say that it will come to both systems.

In early 2017 - after the buzz of Fallout 4 and its DLC has died down - release the last generation of games (Skyrim & Oblivion) on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as an "Elder Scrolls Collection" for $60.

Do whatever it takes to get to 60fps on each: native 1080p on Oblivion, 900p upscaled to 1080p for Skyrim (if needed).

If that sells well - and it will - do the same thing for Fallout 3 and New Vegas the following year.

My opinion is that, in a generation of buggy games with big Day 1 patches, Fallout 4 will be mostly sound and astound everyone. But I'm sure I'm going to be shouted down about wrong I am when it comes out. I just want it to happen because it'd be hilarious.

Pretty smart of them I'd say. It's definitely easier to work with what you know than to jump into the deep end and relearn to swim. I'd have no interest in a port, but I do see the benefits of them doing it. Hell, with how they've talked about mods, some of you could finally play Skyrim with Frostfall and Requiem and be enlightened if they ever were to release it.

wow, they couldn't done it for the ps4 too?

More or less, they're the same systems. They went for lowest common denominator.

Just a random guess, we will see skyrim remaster 2016, no :NV, which will get us excited for a new Skyrim in 2017

I'm sure some have suggested it in this thread, but since the console version of Fallout 4 will have mod support, why not add this feature to Skyrim and/or port the most popular mods over?!

i'd imagine that's because xbone would be the bear minimum tech they'd have to scale down to

anyway, it'd be cool if console folk could experience skyrim better. i might even bite because i'm not particularly fond of dicking around with mods... but i'd rather bethesda move onto ES6 and FO4 DLC or whatever's next

"Oh man, we just have this already ported version of Skyrim laying around. Any idea what we can do with it? "

"Eh, just wipe the HDD and tell everyone we just used it to learn the engine or something."

Would buy if it came with mod support.

Oblivion wasn't ported to PS3 by Bethesda - it was ported by 4J, who are currently responsible for the console versions of Minecraft. Makes you wonder why Bethesda didn't get 4J involved with the Skyrim and Fallout ports.

Who knows how rough of a port the learning experiance was though, but it would be nice to play a version with improvements if they spent time doing so.

I'ed pay good money for a current gen port of Skyrim that didn't have long ass load times and some higher rez textures. Some of those load times on the 360 version with all the DLC installed I swear to god would last like two and a half minuets at a time. It was miserable.
