This has been really bothering me.

The intro to Better Call Saul Episode 7, "Inflatable". Great episode, but the look of the intro with young Saul and his father has this strange look, and I can't help by feel it was animated.

It looks so good it looks real, but something looks *not real about it. Like it was really well done CG or something.

I uploaded some high res images from the scene on imgur here. Look at the hands. They look a little plastic like CG.

Am I crazy? Is it animated? Was it filmed and given an animated look?

No, it's lighting. You can see that sort of shade in other films/shows that are trying to give a 1950/1960-70's look.

I don't understand why this would be the case, what was so special about the scene that it required animation?

The hands just look so clean. They don't look real.

I know sometimes little things are animated for whatever reason. Maybe it was just the hand-shot because they needed it as a pickup?

I just can't unsee the animation. I work in film/television and nothing has ever had me so perplexed.

#Teamreal

It's possible they just went and smoothed things out in post processing. That scene already has some shaders and false lighting applied to it

Thought everybody realized this. CG actually looks pretty rough. At times, PS2 levels, even.

It's a shame more filmmakers don't use practical effects. This would have looked so much more natural with puppets or animatronic costumes.

Wait, wtf? So it is CG?

What is happening here? I searched and found nothing.

Was it animated or real? ARG?!

Vince has been hiding this shit right in front of our faces.

Well, while we are on the topic....

Every time I see this Seinfeld GIF (from Curb I think) I become more convinced the rest of the people in it are still photo cutouts animated slightly in After Effects or the like.

Am I as crazy as OP?
