BETTER CALL SAUL (s e a s o n 5) |OT\

I have to admit that the scene with Nacho sneaking out was pretty tense.

Lalo taking those guys out was pure ridiculousness though. They knew where they last saw him in the kitchen, there's no way the guy clearing the room would walk next to the wall so that he could get hit. The guy is even looking at the corpse, not the corner lol, plus they show them being two ppl in the kitchen. Then they go full auto on the kitchenware but only fired a single shot when they had him in their sights. It's not that I have a problem with Lalo making it out, I just think you need to make those kinds of scenes at least somewhat plausible.

i agree that raid was a bit iffy

there were like 6 guys there in total, and they were supposed to be "the best in the business"

lalo is one man

and those guys, although they seemed intimidating enough at the gate, they kinda became throwaway puppets as soon as lalo fried that dudes face

it was still a damn intense scene, i had my hands over my head the whole time

Yeah, I don't understand why these trained guys who were methodically taking out the targets one at a time were just staring through the window to take their shot. Nacho told them Lalo was in the kitchen. They were already in different sections of the house killing innocent people, why walk straight through the back yard to the window?

Not too big of a deal, though. Not sure how I feel about Kim's breaking point. I guess she's been forcing a lot of stress down and pretending it's all fine and Howard's attempt to help her may have set her off, but damn. Just ruin the guy's life to get Jimmy's payday faster so you can "provide for your family clients?" It's a bit much.

So, in the last season they're gonna do all of this:

Wrap up the Nacho/Lalo/Gus cartel conflict
Wrap up the Kim/Howard conflict what ends up happening with her
Show enough of Saul's story post Breaking Bad which finally got somewhere in the first clip this season. Maybe Jesse will be involved again in some way too, who knows.

Because if not then it's gonna be underwhelming. This is gonna feel rushed.

Well, sadly I don't expect Nacho is going to be around for long, which is a pity because he was kind of underserved this season. I'm betting he probably ends up on the wrong side of the cousins or something. However, the final season is apparently going to be 13 episodes. Though with the Covid and all they aren't going to start filming until September apparently (they're writing the scripts using Zoom atm).

The show has been a nice slow burn the whole time so it won't be that bad to have a more intense final season. It's not like we're getting any train robberies or anything :messenger_tears_of_joy:

So it can move at a faster pace without getting overly grandiose. I just hope the writers find some way to get Kim in a bikini for at least one scene before the show ends for personal reasons.

I also thought this was a bad finale. I get similarities to season 4 of The Wire where all the bad guys (and gal) lived and escaped jail to continue for yet another season. Lalo has overstayed his welcome.

I think Lalo has made this show exponentially better. He's a great character and his unpredictable personality makes for tense scenes. He also has charisma unlike some other bad guys in this series.

Yeah, I like the character. He's smart but he also has some charm to him even if he's clearly very dangerous. I'd have been sad to see him go but at the same time it was definitely an awkward ending with the botched assassination.

Lalo is an amazing addition to the universe and I am super glad he survived. Would be a waste to not have him go wild in the last season.

This was a really good season. BCS is so much better than BB, and the show has me hooked constantly with its excellent writing and directing.

The final episode was tense (and the episodes building up to it) and I just want more. Lalo is such a great villain. He stands shoulder to shoulder with Gus. And to witness Kim's and Saul's relationship slowly withering away is heartbreaking. They are a terrific couple, great screen chemistry. The only thing I didn't like was that Howard foreshadowed Kim's death. It'll be a sad one for sure. Love her character. Seehorn is fucking ace when it comes to acting.

Gus was amazing in Breaking Bad.... terrifying and compelling in every scene, so that you'd hang on his appearances closely.

But in BCS, Gus has been oddly boring. I think it's partly a function of his character being written backwards here (we already know his dark side, but aren't getting to see that through his "kind" facade the way we did gradually in BB).

In any case, on BCS, Lalo is the new Gus. Consistently interesting and entertaining to watch. So glad we'll have more of him... one hell of a villain rising in that final shot.

And we know who he kills, how it ends with him, so the tension building Gus brought to every scene is now kinda gone. That has shifted to Lalo.

What is everyone's best guess about her fate: dead, or in hiding?

I feel fairly confident that she'll be dead at the end of the series. If there was any thought that they would instead move her into hiding and use it to show Saul first meeting the witness relocation vacuum salesman, recall that the required actor passed away recently.

She breaks bad so much that either the cartel or the police want her and she is the first one to use the vacuum cleaner service, they don't have to show the actor who passed away for it, and in the Gene timeline they both will reunite.

That is the outcome I hope for, but realistically she either dies or goes to jail.

To be honest, as much as I lover her character, I don't hope for relocation being her endpoint. Too many characters have done that now; it'd be nice to see more closure for once.

That said, the key question is what they'll do with the Cinnabon / future-Saul scenes, because I suspect the series will pivot to those and bring about some kind of final ending in the future. One possibility--if Kim does survive--would be that Saul somehow changes his mind and tracks her down, for one hell of a fan-pleasing reunion. I'm not sure I favor that... but somehow I think that her fate is bound up with the question of how they'll wrap up Saul's fate at the post-Breaking Bad end of his life.

We've seen Jimmy go right back into being Saul right after his brother burned himself alive, so I guess I could believe he'd go back to being Saul even if Kim were murdered by the cartel.

I guess I just think it's more likely that she'll push Jimmy into this con against Howard and it will backfire in a way that only hurts her. Maybe she'll lose her ability to practice law, so she can't help people poor people, and to her it's like losing everything. And Jimmy will consider it his fault. I dunno, maybe she does die. As long as we get the bikini scene, it doesn't matter.

I can’t really reconcile the idea of Kim dying with Saul’s behaviour in BB. I know it’s a persona, but I think the writers are very careful about continuity.

Who knows? My best guess is that he crosses a line that she can’t agree with, and fully becomes Saul.

i still gotta say though that even with 2 seasons of Lalo and the finale, the cartel stuff has been pretty tame

breaking bad is the show that really pushed the top tier crazy cartel shit (beheading, tortoise bomb)

ask me, better call saul should have surpassed any of that already, so that when we finally meet saul during breaking bad we know he's seen and dealt with some true agents of loco land

chopped up body parts, bullet storm prison breaks and live skinning is where i'm setting the bar for season 6

Uhm... there will be... repercussions for Nacho...

Lalo and the guy forced to double-cross (sorry, forget his name), are both mentioned in the presentence by Saul in BB.

Doesn’t mean neither or both die, but in BB Saul refers to them both as if they’re alive.

It sounds like he believes Lalo is alive, certainly ("Lalo didn't send you??"), but his words are ambiguous regarding Ignacio ("It was Ignacio!" - clearly referring to the betrayal, but not necessarily alive).

In any case, I was just thinking about the affirmation of Lalo in those lines... if he's alive, how do they write season 6 so that it resolves, and why didn't we ever see him with the other Salamancas on Breaking Bad? If not alive, why does Saul clearly seem to believe he is?

yep, you know he's tailing it to go pick his dad up and his dad doesn't wanna go anywhere

i can just see nacho frantically trying to convince him to get the hell out of town with him

meanwhile lalo is coming specifically for pops

and that's not all, uncle hector seems to know about nachos aunt and other relatives

Any chance Kim joins the cartel and runs off with Lalo? Deep sexual tension between the two of them.

And Howard? What will be his fate?

And Howard? What will be his fate?

I feel like he's due for a win. He's not the most likeable guy, kinda robotic, but he's not really a bad one. He was never against Jimmy in any way, and even pushed for him whenever he could. He was so loyal to Chuck that he agreed to be the fall guy for him every time Chuck wanted to fuck his brother over or treat him like shit.

He gets blamed for a lot of shit he didn't really do and all he wants is to keep the practice going. I think the end for Howard is winning in next season's battle against Jimmy and Kimmy when they try to sabotage him. Kim will lose her license and Jimmy will get off on some technicality.

Jimmy realizes that Kim has become too evil and reluctantly kills her off, completing his becoming Saul Goodman.

Damn. It's extremely unlikely, but ideas like this one make me realize how little we really know. There's a pretty huge open space for the writers to bridge here, and they can do almost anything with Kim's ending since nothing in particular was said about her in BB.

This is silly, but the thing that bugs me the most about Howard is that pinned collared shirt he always wears - I hate it.

I'm not a fan either. I also don't like the knot he uses for his ties, and I definitely do not like that he named a color after himself (Hamlindigo Blue).

Still need to catch up on this fifth season. The last episode I watched was the one where Saul chucked a bowling bowl onto Howard's car[/spoiler]

Or no wait, I think it was when Mike woke up in a strange barn somewhere? He got stabbed by some kids that he fucked up on the street after he was walking home

How would you rate the final stretch of episodes for season five? I think I'm halfway through them

The final stretch of episodes for S5 is some of the best telly out there to date, I adore this show with an immense passion and think it is on it's way to surpassing BB for me!

Same here, love this show. I don't think there's any way it can surpass Breaking Bad though. That shit was unbelievable

Edit: Going to have to download the AMC app and watch the episodes I missed. I hope they have the next season ready to go sometime this next summer. I can only guess
