Better Water Level Song - SM64 Dire Dire Docks or DKC Aquatic Ambience

Jesus Christ, that is some good underwater music.
Oh, and Aquatic Ambience is number one. Can't beat it.
Both are brilliant and fit their levels perfectly, but I think I'd put DDD slightly above AA.

Aquatic Ambiance wins, but only by a small margin. AA has a certain mysticism and sense of adventure to it, where Dire Dire Docks is more of a happy, feel-good song.

But between the ones in the OP, it's Aquatic Ambience. No contest. The feelings that song makes me feel. And this is from someone who played a ton of SM64 and never played DKC as a kid. So no bs nostalgia argument here, AA crushes DDD.

Came for Funky Waters/Amiss Abyss, was not disappointed.
While I like both Aquatic Ambiance and Dire Dire Docks I've never loved them as much as everyone else seems to, DDD in particular just never did much for me, Nintendo should probably think about actually revisiting it at some point since it's so popular. That aside I think SMW has my favourite Mario water theme even if it's yet another remix of the SMW overworld theme.
And I was always one of the few that preferred the moody Water World theme in DKC3 and Lockjaws Saga in DKC2 over AA, even DKC3's GBA counterpart Water World happens to be my favourite version of Aquatic Ambiance before the original DKC1 version.

Aquatic Ambience definitely, it has atmosphere. Dire Dire Docks sounds really boring to me.
Always enjoyed this version of Aquatic Ambience, it's from DKC3 GBA but someone got their hands on the version before the dreadful GBA hardware ran it through a tin can.

Never played DKC, but listening to the song, I can see how some would say its better. However, to me, it sounds like something from Flight of the Navigator.

Yeah.
Nintendo's music directors are pretty good at nailing the feeling of whatever levels they're creating a theme for(Sans whoever does the music for the NSMB series)

As for the question, i'll go with Dire Dire Docks. As a kid, when i had no access to the internet, i turned on my N64 and went to this level only to hear this music while doing homework.

If we're talking tranquil, I agree with the Amiss Abyss suggestions.
But Dire Dire Docks and Aquatic Ambiance are both really really good too.

Rayman Origins' underwater music is pretty damn awesome too. It's just a bubbly, jazzy arrangement of the Rayman theme, but suits it perfectly

DKC, easily. Never cared for SM64 water music. One of my favorites is Super Adventure Island's Blue Blue Moon by Yuzo Koshiro. Can't quite make out what songs it's 'inspired by', but it's a simple, short tune to swim by.
