Beyond Good and Evil 2 is at "day zero" of development, might go early access

>online worlds
>early-access releases
>procedural generation

I suspect and fear that "role-playing games" means crafting elements and am now going to assume that this is an entirely different series with the same name, which confidently starts at 2 until Ubisoft provides evidence to the contrary.

I'm in the camp who thinks this game should not be made. The IP is not strong enough to carry a game that has little resemblance to the original. And fans of the original IP are a small vocal minority.

Ugh. I am so tired of this practice. If your game is not even half way done, don't show me it. Ubisoft is the worst at this, and my patience with this practice is nearing its end.

This is the second time they have done it with BGE2. At this point I am close to just giving up on this shit. Not sure why Ancel is still with Ubisoft anymore.

Can anyone explain the how and why this deserves a sequel? The original was amazing game no doubt but no idea why talk of a sequel has persisted for so long...

Oh no... I really thought this project would've progressed further already. I guess it makes sense why they would only show a CGI trailer this E3 then.

I shouldn't complain... but damn. At least we gettin a game. We ARE getting it.
That's what we thought when we saw BG&E2 videos in 2008 & 2009. :p

Aww i was looking forward to this even though i hadnt even played the first one, i bought into the hype of this one.

Cyberpunk 2077 or this to be released first? Place your bets

I really don't get why they announced this game. I'm super excited about it, but I don't really believe it'll come out this generation. Either it'll come out in 2020 or beyond, or it'll be outright cancelled.

So what are the chances this gets canceled after the acquisition?

High, huge financial risk. Ubi have probably already spent a shit ton of money on developing the technology with nothing really to show for it, in the eyes of the bean counters anyway.

Vivendi will just want Ubi to shit out the same games year after year.

Well even only say that it is going to happen, eventually, make me happy.
Now i just hope it will be on all the console + pc like the first one was.

So this is the new duke nukem forevor?

This'll be worse. Duke Nukem Forever at least eventually came out after, what, 12 years of development? We're 14 years since BG&E came out, and the sequel was first announced 9 years ago. If this eventually comes out (I don't think it will), it'll be more than 12 years before it's fully released I reckon. Plus, nothing turns me off faster than going from a tightly-designed single player story-driven adventure than the dev talking about making a procedurally-generated online-focused early access sequel.

this game needed to be a simple continuation of the first games story. nothing more, nothing less. i appreciate games that are ambitious, but this is hardly the franchise for it. ambitious just means long dev cycles and large budgets, ones which will never be recouped because it's ultimately a sequel to BG&E, a relatively niche title. this needed to be simple, sweet and quickly made.

i definitely see this being the first victim of the vivendi acquisition.

Has Ubisoft ever cancelled a game after it was announced formally in the last 5 years?

Once Ubisoft is committed to a project it seems it'll get done. I'm absolutely not worried about the graphics. That's something Ubisoft is really good at producing at a great pace.

rainbow six patriots?

We might even get Half-Life 3 before this 'game'.
Half Life 3 doesn't exist. How do people still believe it's a thing? All the writers left, which is kind of crucial for a single-player narrative heavy FPS. Not a screenshot, trailer, or anything definitive was shown that indicated it was in development.

You pick up a game that was in troubled development, try to revive it with a concept that's way "out there" and too ambitious for its own good. Then you reveal it to public with only a CG trailer to show it and tell the public that the game will follow an early access model. Yep, this game is either taking 4-5 years or just going to go into development hell again.

You don't re-announce a game by showing a CG trailer, especially when the last time we saw of the game nearly a decade ago was a CG trailer as well.

All they needed to make was another Zelda like game. Instead they are trying to pull off a Star Citizen, except without the budget.

That ended up being reworked to Rainbow Six Siege did it not?

bit of a stretch. didn't really have anything to do with. patriots even heavily promoted a single player component, something completely lacking in siege.

is he still working on wild?

he is indeed. another game that seems too ambitious for the studio to tackle, especially now they're sharing their time with this.

I think people are underestimating how helpful it is to have a solidly working "engine" / technology base for their game ready, considering that can easily be 50% of dev time resources.

well the first version of this game was scrapped

I liked the story Austin told of him asking what they do in the studio in a day and the guy answering with "ancel ate some cheese and we laughed"

I dont think its looking good for this or Wild, guys. Yeah maybe they can start a kickstarter but yknow. Buyer beware.

It being a sequel to BG&E doesnt really matter here because that's not the selling point. The genre is so different that it's barely a sequel and it will appeal to a different wider audience (ie the open world RPG fan, space game fan, etc.). I never played BG&E, but I sure want to play this.
