Nah, if he is indeed the bomber, then it's probably in retaliation for Thailand sending Muslim Uighurs back to China where they are persecuted instead of sending them to Turkey.

But no one trusts the Thai police and because they are so concerned with saving face, many are already questioning whether they planted the evidence just so they could arrest someone.

Edit: The Thai embassy in Turkey was stormed recently over the Uighur issue so they have already experienced retaliation for that move (sending them to China).

Edit: I meant Uighur people and not Rohingya. Different issue Thailand is having and I got them confused.

Yeah, that sounds more feasible. Pretty low they decided to bomb tourists instead of the Thai military or police if that's the case, but I guess that's to be expected of terrorists.

Really interesting piece in the Bangkok Post about the riverside bomb
http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/security/676036/attacks-push-thailand-into-globalised-era

They've looked at the traffic patterns and comutes of the time of the bombs and think the second bomber aborted his attack because he was late to the bridge, he was supposed to arrive in time to catch the ferry to Asiatique (a huge night time shopping complex designed for Chinese tourists).
If that bomb had reached Asiatique at that time of day, holy fuck at the number of casualties it could have caused.
Thank God for Bangkok's shitty traffic.

How could the army destroy tourist industry? Export and other maybe (due to pressure from US). But not for tourism where it's on arise and going to make new record this year.

What are you talking about? Tourism is down 6% year on year. It's estimated the country lost 1trillion baht over the last high season.

That's fucked up. I've been to Asiatique (overpriced nonsense). On that ferry. Kind of creepy all over.

How's the dollar versus the baht these days? I'm going to BKK at the end of Sept.
