I'm also curious as to how much the price will drop on the PS3, as much as everyone wants it to fall to $299, a $50 drop is much more realistic. Of course, if they were only going to drop it by $50, they could have done that back in the fall. I think them waiting until the last day of the fiscal year stuff basically says they prepping for some major financial hurt.

Are we sure Smarthouse isn't simply relaying Kotaku's report, which DIDN'T specify that the announcement was PS3 related necessarily, and that is far more likely to be the rumoured PS2 price drop to $99?

Maybe they are right this time, but gamefront isn't reliable at all dude. Many false news and they almost always skew up the translations of japanese articles etc. They are on the "black list" of many journalists.

If all Sony is announcing is a PS2 price drop, yet they felt the need to warn gaming sites about it, they have to know they're going to receive quite the shitstorm from gamers, media, publishers, etc.

Sony is quite aware that the only thing anyone cares about right now is a PS3 price drop. Snipes424's info strongly suggests there's going to be a PS3 cut, but since Master Ninja didn't spot anything in the ads, I'm guessing asked retailers not to put the PS3 cut in the print circulars so that it can actually be a surprise this time.
