Bigger OMG/WTF? Wii name or PS3 price/2 skus?

While they're both relatively fresh on people's minds, what is the bigger "OMG", "WTF" for you between the 'wii' name or the price/multi skus of the PS3?

I was having an absolute blast with all the wii jokes (I made several posts such as what color is your wii, wiimote, etc), but arriving with the news of the multi-skewed PS3 and $499/$599 I think was more of a shock, due to the hit on the pocketbook that would be.

I mean..you have a system that has 'pee' jokes, and you have a system that costs way more than what it seems the average person was expecting, and after the whole "retard pack" fiasco, Sony does the same thing.

Too bad it's not a poll. What is the bigger shocker to you? I'm going to have to say the PS3 price. Maybe this will be my first locked topic with all the eagle eyes out this week!
 
PS3 price tag for me, I mean 600 fucking dollars... Wii doesn't hurt my wallet but 600 dollars will fuck, rape and destroy it :(

"Wii" makes sense in two major languages. PS3 pricing makes sense only to Stringer and the beancounters. So it's a fairly simple choice.
 
no one saw the Wii coming.

the PS3 price was kinda expected, but no one wanted to believe it could happen.

the 2 SKUs was a suprise however, but since MS had set the precedent for that kinda thing it wasn't as suprising as the Wii unveiling.

Wii win.
 
Haha, thanks for participating guys. Wii still sounds pretty dumb but I'm not as OHMYGOD about it anymore..maybe the PS3 price had some extra to do with that. Sporks can't make it a poll..and I wanted to ask before Nintendo's conference in case they revealed a price and there was only 1 (or 2) things about the systems at the same time that people seem to be griping about. Yeah.
 
Wii is more WTF!?

600 Euros is more 'ouch....'


Losing 40GB I can deal with (replace later or stream over network)
Losing wifi I can deal with (I have a wire ready for PS3)

Losing HDMI means no bluray movies for the 499 Euro PS3. Effectively Sony are charging you $100 for the bluray playback.
 
I was expecting the PS3 pricing. Its fine in most places outside the US. PS2 was ultra cheap in the US. Here in the UK we were paying £299 for PS2 at launch (higher than US $499 equivalent price) whereas the US was $299. Big difference for the US.

Wii i kinda expected in some way as its typical nintendo.
 
Stayed up till 2:30am (Uk) watching Sony bury themselves alive. I was embaressed for most of the speakers who got up there. Especially ps1 emulation:-

"Oh look.. its RIIIIIDGE RAAAACER.. do you remember that?"... *crowd completely silent, staring in awe? disbelief?*

7 hours 16 minutes ... Wiiiiiiiiiiiiii!:D

I feel embarassed for them even without having to watch the conference. I woke up this morning and the first couple of points I read... it's really sad. Pathetic, even.

As insane as the Sony press conference was, I still think you have to admit that the Wii name, specs, and the entire Wii concept is still more bizarre. On the otherhand at the PS3 conference a well known video game character put a gun in his mouth to kill himself, that's pretty out there.
 
What's funny is a lot of people saying the xbox 360 having 2 sku's was a bad idea. Now those same people are praising Sony for it! :lol
 
the wii name was the biggest wtf (and a pretty big mistake)

ps3 price was just a worst case scenario, so not as suprising but it was a much bigger mistake.

Definitely the PS3. Admit it, everyone is used to the Wii name by now -- it was a smart move by Nintendo to get it out there in advance and I'm not even giving it a second's thought any more... but that PS3 price? You gotta be kidding me.

I spent just under 500 on my 360 + Oblivion, but $700+? You gotta be shitting me.. I feel particularly bad for the Europeans. It's rape time.
 
Wii was a bigger surprise for me.

PS3 $600 was Sony saying:
'We're the biggest player in this industry and we can do whatever the fuck we want!'
 
"Wii" makes me laugh and won't prevent me to buy the console.
The price of the PS3 prevent me from buying the console.
 
I knew that DS3 was going to be expensive, hugely downgraded from what was shown at last year's E3, and considerably bigger than the original Xbox.

But Wii? Nobody on this planet could have predicted that.
 
With the Rev's name change I was definitely WTF. But it's grown on me.

With the price I really wasn't that shocked but I was like OMG that's hilarious! It was just a culmination of really dumb things in that conference and then a last powerful man-kick in everyone's doctor bits.

Wii doesn't matter it's just name. With the PS3 Sony has fucking denied me FFXIII, MGS4, DMC4, GT5, RR7 and VF5. Fuck them in the ass. So yeah, PS3 gets the bigger OMGWTFBBBQ.
