People get let go for many reasons, not just performance per se:

-Disagreements or cold relationships with executive staff
-Disputes about compensation
-Cost cutting
-Office politics.

Not everyone is let go due to poor performance only. Just be aware of that.

With that said, I hope he lands on his feet. I've always liked him.
