Well, it's a non-game now, and can't be used as a measurment of a third party success either. Good job RE4! Edit: no reading comprehension. D'oh! Well, I'd be extremely surprised if it doesn't pass 1 mill by January.

Who gives a fuck if its just shipped?

Shipped is much more efficient figure to go by from the developers perspective.

Shipped but should have sold very well and doubled their expectations easily. Probably the reason Okami is getting ported since Capcom's been firm about "No" before RE: 4 Wii.

Maybe they should focus on making a proper Resident Evil game for Wii now. You know, not a sequel or on-rails shooter.

I see five options:

1. Resident Evil 5 downgrade port (if they can do RE4-cell phones, then why not)
2. Gun Survivor 6 or 5 or whatever the next one is after REUC
3. Original Resident Evil that ties into RE5 somehow and isn't shit (this would essentially be another RE4 style game)
4. A remake of another RE with RE4 controls. Maybe RE2, since that hasn't been touched yet.
5. No more REs for the Wii after REUC.

Do they have any other options other than making something off the wall like a Resident Evil puzzle game?

I was going to say 'no no no no no no no no no no no no, etc" but I think it has potential.

IMO if they should remake any RE game it should be 2.

Capcom is proud to announce that Resident Evil 4 Wii edition for the Nintendo Wii has shipped over 1 million copies worldwide.

Since the release of the first Resident Evil game in 1996, the series has shipped over 33 million units (as of October 30, 2007) and is valued as one of Capcom's most original and cutting-edge titles worldwide. "Resident Evil 4 Wii edition" retains the overflowing intensity of the original Resident Evil 4 while bringing players a totally unique, new experience through the controls of the Wii Remote. In this way, by retaining the interest of the core fanbase and expanding outward toward new casual players through the Wii platform, Capcom has broken the 1-million-units milestone, and successfully captured the attention of a new set of users.

It is Capcom's on-going plan to aggressively pursue the continued creation of unique and inspired creations for the Wii, including such titles as "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles", which is set to go on sale on November 15th, followed by "Sengoku Basara 2 (Heroes) Double Pack" (November 29th), "We Love Golf!" (December 13th), and "Monster Hunter 3 (tri-)" (TBA).

To stay at the cutting edge of the next generation of gaming, Capcom is committed to researching and developing new processes and techniques specific to each of the unique platforms to create a revolutionary gaming experience. Building on the success of last year's "Dead Rising" and "Lost Planet" for the Xbox 360™, and "Monster Hunter Freedom 2" for the PSP®, all of which were million-sellers, Capcom's success at shipping over 1 million units of Resident Evil 4 on the Wii this time reflects strong R&D facilities which have allowed Capcom to be a success on every major next-gen platform.

As always, we at Capcom will continue to strive to develop new and original games that appeal to a broad audience around the world while expanding our properties for multiple platforms.

I'm thinking the first might be likely... grab the RE4 engine, do some upgrades for the Wii, then port the game scenario over with RE4 quality assets.

now a REmake2 is inevitable. I think that a downgrade of RE5 or a brand new episode would be too demanding while with the REmake2 they would only have to "put together" the pieces

Rip some backgrounds from Umbrella Chronicles to make a new game is what Capcom will do.

One of the few current third party titles with quality rivaling those on other platforms. Is also a port and still shows that third parties are better off on Wii than PS3 overall. And Wii's continuing market share eating will inevitable make it the strongest home platform for third parties to put their games on overall, before too long, too.

13 Million Wii Sold
1 million RE4 Wii shipped (and as they are selling out in Europe they will sell eventually)

That means that at least 1/13th of Wii owners are into 'proper' gaming, ignoring those like me who were lucky enough to own the cube version so did not get the Wii one but will happily buy the next game.

So in other words, less than 2% of PS2 owners are into "proper" gaming.

Wow, the core market is smaller than I thought.

Shipped, not sold.

Though I imagine they've sold a lot by now.

I had the cube version but still bought it. Wiimote controls were worth it.

Same here except I also bought it for Separate Ways, as well as the other extras that weren't in the GCN version. The $29.99 MSRP helped too!

Where does this put RE4 among the RE games now? RE1 probably tops the list if you're including the remake. RE2 probably tops it if you don't. Still, RE4 should be nearing 5m now, I'd imagine.

I think PS2 + GC version sold about 3.5 million total (maybe a little less). Wii version pushing 1 million, and still selling. And then there's the released PC version and yet to be released mobile/cellphone version to go still.

They should just make a DS version or something.

Even though the number is only shipped, it's still quite a figure, especially because Capcom expected it to sell 400k worldwide, I personally wouldn't mind a RE2 REmake with RE4 controls, that would be awesome, lets hope Capcom doesn't abandon Wii support Resi wise post UC.

Capcom's positioned themselves really well with the 360 and thier quick reaction with the Wii's unexpected domination.

A case of a 360 games probably going to fund Wii games in the future if thier streak continues :lol

Yeah, they expected to ship 420k RE4's WW by the of next March, and they've reached over 1,000k shipped, here in October; before Christmas.

Their original expectation for UC was 620k. They should smash that.

Hopefully they give it to a good team and don't do the shovelware treatment they're doing for REUC.
Wasn't RE: UC announced waaaaaaaaaaay, way before the Wii surged ahead? I don't doubt that they treated the title like a shovelwhore title though.

For a third edition, it's not bad at all.
Plus, I think the marketing campaign was good for what it was. Hell, even here we're still having RE4 Wii ads on TV. We didn't have any for RE4 GC/PS2 (or maybe once). I guess this wii edition attracted some newcomers to the RE franchise.

Not to mention that TV ad is now a classic :lol

Well I'm hoping that it's the extremely positive sales of RE4 that get them to realize more of that will be a good thing versus the potentially positive sales of REUC.

Resident Evil 5 on Wii is the most logical choice now...

Upgrade the RE4 engine and take the Wii to the limits in terms of graphical power, and just bring over a downgraded (graphically) port of 360/PS3 version of RE5.

How could Capcom deny a 1 million strong audience?

In the long term, it wouldn't surprise me to see RE4: Wii Edition outsell the PS2 version. The Resident Evil brand on the most popular console this Christmas should help give the game a sales bump.

Let's hope not.

I guess if it misses expectations, that will be the collective Wii audience saying "We don't want your shitty B-grade shovelware, but we like Resident Evil."

Magicpaint said:

We're fucked no matter what. If UC bombs, then Capcom will say "third party games don't sell on Wii, and customers want even easier games than UC :("
And if it sells "That is what people want, simple and easy games with shitty graphics and almost no gameplay. We're proud to announce Devil May Cry Sword Legend"

I used to like RE back in the PSone era, but now I just hate the tank controls. This is sad because I love the thrill of the series, but I just cannot stand the controls they are unbearable, and the Wii version was the worse. :(
