Bioshock PC demo -- tonight at 7pm EST!!

I have my computer up until i move into college on monday so im on my macbook pro. anyone running sli 7900 gt(so two of them),core duo 2 1.8, and 2 gigs of dual channel? Any setup like that. Just want to see how its doing with this because thats what i have.

I'm not too impressed with my system performance.

I am trying to run the game at 1280x1024 (highest LCD resolution) with all settings on high meaning Vsync On, global lighting on and so forth. AAx0, AFx0 or application preference in the control panel.

Rig:

ASUS X1800 XT 512
E6600 @ 2.40Ghz
2 Gig ram
Vista 32 bit Ultimate
ATi 7.8 drivers

Anytime after facing the first splicer the game drops below 30fps to an average of about 20. During the crazy scene when all the splicers are jumping into the water (attack bot floating around too) the game drops to about 15-18.

Is this the same for everyone? I think the xbox demo features AAx2 at least as it doesn't have as many jaggies and performs better than my computer.

Couple questions:

1) Anyone know if the Steam demo recognizes the full version preloaded data to avoid redownloading?

2) Can anyone post frame rates before/after the nvidia beta drivers?

E6600 OC'd at 3.0Ghz
2GB RAM
Evga 8800 GTS 320mb OC'd @ 600/1030
Nvidia 163.44 Beta Drivers
XP 32-bit

Without actually seeing an FPS meter (how?) I never really noticed much of a slowdown...ever. Ran beautifully at 1650x1050 with all the settings maxed no problem. I also noticed a few little graphic glitches with the water that I didn't notice on the 360, and I thought the controls, even with the sensitivity turned out, felt loose (which is odd since I usually prefer them that way).

My computer is in another city for 2 weeks :(

The most advanced video card in the house I'm staying in is a Radeon 9250.

This is very sad.

I should have brought SS2 with me to tide me over.

core 2 duo 2.4 ghz
4 gigs of ram
8800 GTX in SLI

Performance was pretty great. Solid 60 fps pretty much all the time, and it looks pretty crazy in motion and without the stupid blur on the 360.

Whoa, great to hear that card is up to the task and then some. I've had my eye on it for while now. Looks like I've got no reason to hold back now!

You have too much money. FYI.

Exactly same specs as me, except my card's clocked at 620/1020. Same CPU overclock, resolution, everything. I use Fraps as my fps meter, it has an overlay and you can log data too. My fps never dipped below 55 even while throwing around Incinerate as much as possible because skip said he had some chugging on the 360 version when he used it a lot.

HIGH FIVE. I'm seriously stunned by my performance as I've never had a computer THIS powerful especially this early in a generation of gaming.

Same, I was trying to pull out all I could from my aging XP 2000+/9600 Pro combo. The absolutely killer deals this summer was perfect timing for me. :D

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1.86 (OCs on the fly via the mobo...so no clue what it was running the game)
1 GB DDR2 800
X1950XT 256 MB
Win XP

I played the demo at 1280x1024 with all details at max minus global lighting (will try next run through) and it was so damned silky smooth. I'm honestly surprised. Really surprised, and pleased.

The game itself is...holy fucking shit.

Got it running at 15-25fps on my Feb 07 Macbook Pro (only a x1600 for me) with all settings off but shader effects and textures (on high), at 1024x768. It's certainly playable, but... oh, the sacrifices I'd have to make. I'll wait until I've got a 360, I think.

V-Sync was on by default, and it capped the demo @ 60FPS :|
When I played it the second time, I turned it off, and voila! I began getting up to 300FPS:

How did you turn the FPS ticker on ?

Was downloading the demo from FileFront, but only getting ~300KB/s, which saddened me. Then, I tried the GameDaily link. 1MB/s downloads are awesome.

As for the game:
Stock E6400 (2.13GHz)
2GB DDR2 800
256MB Radeon X1950 Pro

I'd been planning on running this at 1280x720 (at the max), but just for kicks, I decided that I'd have my first playthrough be at 1920x1080 (with max everything, plus forced AA and AF from my card). Much to my surprise, I was shocked to see that I was getting between 18 and 30 FPS at all times. :D

So Awesome.

This is a good thing (for me), as I would much rather run the game at my panel's native res at a bit lower (but still very playable) framerate than sacrifice graphical quality.

Next in my hardware future: 8800 something (depends on how much I want to spend), along with a Thermalright Ultima-90 HSF to help me OC to 3.2GHz+ speeds. I love PC gaming.

I have a GeForce 7600 and 1gb of RAM. I turned detail down to lowest and ran at 800x600. It crashed just as Ryan was about to speak.

This is why I will never invest any money in PC games ever again. It's not like I've got some prehistoric card dammit!

Yay my system is just as good as this, hopefully I have the same sort of positive results. :D

So did anyone here with a x800 or x850 tried out the demo yet? I heard BioShock only support sm3 cards, but I was just wondering if the game even start with these cards.

How would a Vostro 1500, Core 2 Duo T5470(1.6GHz), 1GB RAM, 256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT run this demo you think?

I'm on the verge of purchasing this laptop and hope I picked a winner.

You do know what V-Sync does, don't you?

I can already tell you that you are running on an LCD because it runs at 60Hz. That means your monitor refreshes the image 60 times a second (essentially). Therefore when V-Sync is on, the game will not run any faster than the amount of times needed to show the image for every refresh of the monitor. So, for an LCD, 60fps max. V-sync will remove screen tearing at a loss of a little quality and of course a constant 60fps instead of something ungodly like 120fps.

I turned it off mostly for benchmark purposes--and even then, I didn't experience too much screen tearing.

Just so everyone knows, I think global lighting decreases image quality. Look at doors (the airlocks) with it off and on. You will see a big difference. Also when you set the quality to LOW it turns ON global lighting, and when you set the slider the HIGH it turns it off.

:/

That's exactly why I enjoyed the demo even more. I love all the similarities to LOST.
Likewise. I like the game for that, too.

Possibly a glitch? I'm sure it'll be patched, later on.

Runs like a champ on my system. I have to say the 360 version holds up well though. However the PC version looks a bit sharper. I can actually make things out better

A64 3700+

trying to download thru fileplanet, is there any better place to download the demo?

and praying for it to run "well" on my computer...

AMD Dual Core 2.42GHz
2GB ram
7600GS

:/

Pleasantly surprised how well this runs considering my video card isn't all that.

C2D e6420 2.13ghz
2gb RAM
Geforce 8600gts 256mb
Sceptre 22" x22wg gamer widescreen monitor

Vsync: off (turning it on decreases my framerate 5-10fps)
Everything on
Graphic Quality High
Texture Quality High

1280 x 768 Widescreen - 45-80 fps
1440 x 900 Widescreen - 30-40 fps
1680 x 1050 Widescreen - 20-30 fps

Pretty much non-playable at 1680 x 1050 for me, but even at 1440 x 900, it looks just as good, in fact I think maybe even better than the 360 demo. Of course, with the 360 demo, I'm playing it blowed up on a 50" Sammy DLP sitting about 8 feet away, whereas on the PC I'm playing it a foot and a half away on a 22" widescreen monitor.

Damn decisions... christ its seriously a toss up on which version to get tomorrow. I don't mind controller or kb/m, this is a single player game so it really doesn't matter to me. I'd like to have achievements, but I'd also like to save 10 bucks, and have a game with higher resale value when I'm done with it.

Why the fuck is every room so dark in this game? Does it hurt to have some light? Ive played about 20 min of the demo, and this reminds me of a resident evil clone. Zombies running at me with knives, screaming? Wrench then handgun then automatic weapon cliche? Can someone spare me and let me know if anything significantly changes throughout the game?

Surprisingly, it ran beautifully on my computer, with no slowdowns whatsoever... Graphics were maxed out, resolution was at its highest, 1680x1050.

I am relieved, I thought this game would be a graphically demanding beast.

Though the mouse sensitivity felt too loose, even when I put it on the speed 1... It felt weird, maybe I'm too used to cs or something?

Anyway, that was a great demo, looking forward to getting my hands on the full game.

EDIT: How do you check your FPS?

yeah fraps works. It's a good program for recording footage and screenshots as well I purchased it and use it quite often it's good

4 year old Rig:
3.2 P4
2GB DDRII Ram
7800 GS 256mb (loaner from friend)
Windows XP / DX9

First off I'm really impressed by how well the game runs. I have a 4 year old rig and even then I got 20 - 30 fps with all features turned on at 1280x960. They aren't fantastic results but serviceable and I would've been happy if I ended up with the PC version.

However I really didn't notice much of an improvement over the 360 version besides a higher resolution (rig permitting). There was a very slight increase of quality in the shadows (little higher res), lighting (bloom seemed to be a little more pronounced), and effects (lighting seemed improved) but aside from that, it was pretty indistinguishable from the 360 version. I'd love to know how much of an improvement are the DX10 features.

Granted this is the definitive version since it has better controls, options, and mods but since my rig isn't up to snuff I'd much rather play it on the 360. If I want to experience mods I'll just borrow my friend's copy and play it on the new system I plan on purchasing in November/December. I'm pretty happy I downloaded the demo since I don't feel like I'm missing anything!

Core 2 Duo E6320 1.86GHz
1 GB Ram
Geforce 7900 GS 256Mb

Resolution was 1024x768, with graphical details maxed out except for global lightning. Ran very well.

lol wow Bio-Chug on my Pc ,had to turn the detail down so much it started to look like legos.Guess I'll be picking this up on Xbox 360 lol/

1.86ghz Centrino Duo
1GB RAM
512MB GeForce 7300 Go.

Runs like crud even at low detail, and 1024x640 on this laptop. I'm sad. Hoping that doubling my RAM will help, but it's not looking good.
