Bioshock PC demo -- tonight at 7pm EST!!

didn't see your post solideliquid, sorry... but here goes:

p4 3.2 ghz
1 gb ram
7900 gt (new beta drivers)

no aa/af
1024x768
all settings: high

fps: around 50-60 fps mostly. sometimes drops to 30, but never below. i tried 1280x1024 - huge performance drop... <30 fps. it does look a LOT better in higher res. but what can i do. i'd rather have 1024x768 + kb/m + great framerate than 720p.

i have yet to try medium settings and 1280x1024. maybe i'll do that later.

honestly i'm still somewhat shocked i'm getting such a good framerate. i didn't expect it to run at all, haha.

X2 3800+
6800 GS
1 GB RAM

Tried running the demo without the new drivers. Forced my computer to reboot when I got to Rapture. So, I updated the drivers and voila, worked nice. Framerate was rather low (I don't have a good eye for these things) on high settings at 1024x768, but it looked fine to me when I changed it to low settings, so I left it at that. Since I don't have a 360 yet, I'll be playing it like this.

I guess I'll go ahead and install the BETA drivers now. I normally don't install BETA display drivers, but I guess I'll give it a shot for this game.

I'm the same way, but during the installation (bought a boxed copy), it prompted me to go to 2K Games site and download the drivers. I figured if it was that important...why not? I haven't had any issues whatsoever (Vista Ultimate 32-bit).

These specs will sound laughably pathetic.

T7200 @ 2GHz
1 MB RAM
7900 GS mobile w/ 256mb
Latest nvidia drivers

medium settings @ 1920x1200
~15fps
water isn't rendered all that great

medium settings @ 1440x900
~20fps
same for the water, it looks "ok" overall

medium settings @ 1280x800
~30fps
same as above for detail, textures, etc.

high settings @ 1280x800
~15fps
looks great, low fps not that great

Anyone running it on a 7200RPM hard drive instead of a 10k raptor? Just wanna know if it's alright.

Load times seemed pretty awesome on my 7200rpm drive. Of course, hard to say if it was actually loading textures. :lol

for anyone running vsync and not liking the sharp drops from 60 to 30fps try this.

install rivatuner -link
goto rivatuner install dir\Tools\D3DOverrider
run D3DOverrider.exe and just let it sit in the system tray

now run the game again and see what u think, you should now have a much more stable framerate, this just forces triple buffer on dx 8/9 and so wont work on the dx 10 version.

i realise most pc gamers probably knew about this already but i thought it was worth mentioning for those that dont.

Isn't Shader 3.0 a really old techonolgy? I'm pretty sure even my ATI 9500 has it.

Your 9500 doesn't have it ATI's x800 series didn't have it (when it should have had it and pretty much put them a generation behind). They didn't put it in till their x1000 series.

Or just go into the nvidia control panel for nvidia cards and turn on triple buffering in the 3D settings.

*edit*

wont work on the dx 10 version.

Thanks for the tip. I had not heard of this (I haven't gamed on PC for years...just getting back into it). Do you know of any options for DX10 users? Honestly, it doesn't affect gameplay much (if at all)...but I assume locking it in at a framerate would make things even smoother than they are.

Ahh...I'll try this. Thanks.

e6600 at 3.8ghz
4gb Corsair PC2-8500 at 950 (same FSB as CPU)
8800 GTX Ultra at 670/2300
Raptor 150 GB
Vista x64

1920x1200 w/ everything including Vsync. Everything seems to be smooth. Haven't check w/fraps but it should be a steady 60. Still can't get AA to work though even after trying the recommended fixes with NTUNE.

So i've got a E6750/7900gs combo, and after playing with some settings it was CRAZY chugging whenever i made a sharp turn/entered a new area.

Weirded, I put the settings at what I thought would be good to go (everything on/high 1280*720), and left the game and started it again, but didn't touch the settings. No chugging and a solid frame rate.

So my advice is if you make any graphic setting adjustments, always restart (kinda wondered why it didn't force you to as per usual).

Nice overclock.

Your VRAM got filled up, is my guess.

I really need to learn how to overclock.

ahh nice i was going off the nhancer description which i guess is outta date and while both methods work doing it through a driver profile is definetely more convenient .

i guess ati also has this in the drivers aswell then if not the other way could help there.

3.8ghz is not really that impressive for a watercooled system. I'm on the West Coast so the temps are really working hard against me right now. Many people in the cooler states have been able to beat the 4ghz barrier with water cooling and that CPU.

It really isn't hard at all. I just use my motherboard's overclocking tool. Got my E6600 at 3.0Ghz without much of a noticeable difference in temperatures. I'm not using stock cooling of course though.

Anyone noticed this on the ConfigINI.IBF file?

Should i make a new thread? :lol

I'm on stock...you don't need fancy cooling for C2Ds. My E6600 is up to 3.15GHz (from 2.4GHz stock).

Wow. Confirmed.

For those with the boxed PC version, you can see for yourself:

C:\Program Files\2K Games\BioShock\ConfigINI.IBF

Just open it with Notepad or Wordpad and search for "PS3."

well it was originally intended to be on both consoles, but Microsoft bought the exclusive (Alan Wake was similarly slated for PS3 prior to an announcement at the same time). references to the PS3 in the code aren't necessarily indicative of anything.

that said, I do believe a PS3 version is coming.

This isn't really news, a ton of console/pc ports are like this

I've had a hacked up Xbox pad hooked up via USB for a looooooong time (original xbox pad, not 360), and I remember starting up Invisible War (my first mistake) and having the damn pad vibrate on my desk, scaring the shit out of me

Remnants get left in all the time

Hell, the BFME2 ini files had shit in them from C&C Generals, I'm not the least bit surprised to see PS3 stuff there

I disagree on the need for something beyond stock. Sure, you can run it on stock cooling, but i bet you are idling around 110-115 *F right now.

Anyone with 6 series nVidia cards unable to update to the Beta drivers? I have a 6800GT in my comp (don't laugh) and when I go to install the new drivers I get an error message saying there are no new drivers for my hardware. The drivers say they are for 6 series though...

Worked good for me this morning. How do you force it to do aa? I think someone said that you can go into the display control panel to force it in games if it doesn't support it? I have an ati card so how would I go about doing it? Does the retail version give you the option of aa or do I have to go into the device settings for that too?

91.4 F. 33 C.

Intel stock cooling is more than adequate. It's fine to "upgrade" your cooling for your hobby...but it is not necessary at all. As long as you watch your temps and properly cool your case, etc.

I can run it at 1600x1200 all settings maxed, which is one of the reasons I bought this PC :D. I played about 10 minutes and got scared, the ambiance is amazing.

(Core 2 Duo E6750, 2GB RAM and a X1950XT 256 MB)

I installed the drivers with my 6800 GS this morning ... didn't have any issues. I went here:

http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_bioshock_downloads.html

and grabbed the GeForce 6, 7, and 8 Series Windows XP v163.44 (Windows 2000/XP 32-bit).

*****: What happened to the PS3 version?

Ken Levine: If I talk about anything outside of the Xbox 360 version, my corporate overlords will spank me. We love the 360, we love working on it and we’re not talking about any other versions right now.

Yesterday I could adjust the graphics settings in the demo, today for some reason I can't? I can only adjust resolution and the detail (Low-Medium-High).
My PC steelcase has shipped from Gameplay, should be here tomorrow:D

Opposite for me. I installed the new drivers and now it either crashes or restarts my computer when I get to Rapture (where it's almost finished loading)...

It's too bad, too, since it works like a dream up until that point.

It really is, especially in screens. In motion it's easier to see the shortcuts they have taken to make it look that real.

BTW the game runs really good on my setup in 1680x1050 and settings on max, which was a surprise.

1,5 GB noname DDR RAM.

Yeah but you're running your core temp at around or over 70C, which is not extremely advisable for the C2D (though if you don't care about it's lifespan, I guess it doesn't matter anyways). As a general rule, people are recommending to keep the C2D below 60C.

Those readings, are very, very off (there's a 15C offset in some applications). And that's not under load anyways.

Can someone explain the Global Lighting for me ...

My Specs:
Q6600
8800GTS 640mb SC
2 Gigs pc6400 800mhz

I should keep it off right? ... Just don't know why, what does it affect.

Thanks in advance.

I still can't get the fecking demo to stop crashing right before I enter Rapture ARGH! I made sure I have the latest DX and drivers from the official site. No luck... Maybe it's time to part with XP for a fresh Vista install.
