BioShock (PS3) Trophies Confirmed, Detailed

Aaron said:
It was played before me with a person using a Dualshock3. They were also playing the challenge stage DLC. Isn't that supposed to be exclusive to PS3 version? There could be some obtuse trickery going on, but I think it's better to assume they have it going on the PS3.
OK, I've never seen anything beyond that presentation video. Good to hear it's running well.

You shouldn't need a demo to know it's a must play if you haven't already

No fricken joke. I cant imagine anyone that doesn't know about the game by now. At least people that
would buy a game like this in the first place.

This is crazy

I actually decided I'm going to play this game BECAUSE of the trophies.

Is that weird?

Now I feel bad for making fun of the xbots and their achievement whoring.

It so sad but I am right there with you man. I wasn't even going to buy the game since I already beat it
but now I must!

In fact, I think its ARROGANT and STUBBORN to NOT copy something your competitor does well and your customers are clamoring for.

I was just wondering why such things are not called out when others besides MS does it. MS is not the market leader. While they are doing really good, they are still 3rd when it comes to who the average person in the world thinks of when they think Video Games. The success that they've had in this industry is actually a surprise and quite commendable considering the reputation and output of their competitors.

I don't think anyone that owns a 360 was clamoring for Avatars, in fact I think most 360 users have disdain for them, I know I do. I also don't think 360 owners were clamoring for We're in the Movies. Again, I think the average 360 owner ranges from disdain to ambivalence with regard to these things. That's the difference. Sony is copying achievements. Good, they're fun for a good portion of people, and you don't have to pay attention to them if you don't like them. Achievements was a good innovation, and Mii's while initially a little fun to create, were not really an innovation at all, and Microsoft copied it in a desperate attempt to go after a different demographic than which owns 360's right now. Avatars look like they're going to have some focus on the 360, and that is not good in my opinion.

You're right, we should want our console makers to copy the competition when they do good things, but I don't think avatars are a good thing...at all. I'll admit, I had fun making my Mii's with my wife and kids, but after that, I have no interest in them, and I certainly don't want to see those cheesy, low quality looking things in my games, especially on my 360. I did it on the Wii, and now I'm done with it.

Just because people have heard of the game, doesn't mean they know they want it.
That's the point of a demo.

I want the demo mainly because I want to try the controls. If I'm not satisfied with the controls, I'll play this on my PC.

Just play the PC version, seriously.

I tried, at low settings I got about 4 to 10 FPS in between 10 second hitches every minute or so, and I have a computer that runs WoW on the highest settings with 4x AA at roughly 30fps. It was AWESOME! :D

There was for trophies and the PSN video has been talked about for a loooong time, probably even before the 360 Marketplace (I don't remember if it was at launch or not).

Can't be. They already said that thee is a trophy for finishing it on hard with vita-chambers off. Vita-chambers couldn't be turned off at the launch of the 360, so those things aren't featured in the achievement list. Mostly it will be the same, but there is the different one here or there.

lol you really mean it?

Uhhh, kid, Vita-chambers couldn't be turned off at the launch of the game on 360 or PS3. The bit you high lighted is true. Someone already corrected me in that there was an achievement for not using them, but you couldn't turn them off. I was unaware of that. I just knew that when I first played it ont he 360 at launch, there wasn't an option to turn off vita-chambers.

I held off buying a PS3 for this long mostly because Sony didn't have achievements yet. It's ridiculous, but I love having a permanent record of the games I've played and the progress I made. In a way, it makes me feel like my efforts weren't for nothing.

I've owned Bioshock for the 360 and the PC. I "reorganized" my electronics recently and the 360 went away. I now own a PS3 and plan on buying/renting Bioshock and unlocking all the trophies. If it didn't have trophy support, I wouldn't even consider it.

Off topic a little but I wonder how well this game will sell this time around?

Hopefully, really well as it sold alright the first time around on the PC/360 2.2 million units I believe. Probably about right for what it is, although I wish it would have sold better.

I know it sounds bad, but I just might pick this one up again depending on what else comes out around its release.

The Vita-Chambers could be turned off after a patch was released, which is the same patch that ADDED the Brass Balls achievement, so there was never a case where there was an unobtainable achievement.

I know. I was wrong about the achievement, someone earlier in this thread corrected me on that, but I am still right in saying that they couldn't be turned off at launch. As you said, there was a patch to turn off vita-chambers later, but at launch you couldn't. That basically means this statement:

Vita-chambers couldn't be turned off at the launch of the 360

is 100% correct. The part about that achievement not being in the 360 verison was wrong. I don't really care much for achievements or trophies, I just remembered what the options were when I first played it on the 360 at launch. I also remember tons of people bitching that you couldn't turn vita-chambers off.

I started playing the 360 version again today. Now, I haven't played it after they implemented the FOV lock option, so this was my first time playing with the new FOV.

And, wow, to my surprise the atmosphere has changed quite a bit with the increased FOV, and it's not just for the better IMO.

Well it's "easier" to play with the wider view, but the game itself doesn't "feel" quite the same. Bioshock feels more atmospheric with the FOV lock "On", it's more claustrophobic, and the enemies and items feels closer. I can definitely sense that the game was built with the original FOV in mind.

So I hope the PS3 version includes the option for the original FOV aspect.

Edit: Damn, the revolver looks so wimpy with the updated FOV :lol

Wow, I didn't realise games didn't go down in price so much in the US.

Bioshock for 360 is ÂŁ11.99 at zavvi.co.uk here.

I paid ÂŁ10 for it at Asda before they ran out of stock.

Do we know if it's full price?

I really want to play it (Just played the PC demo and was floored) but if it's 60$ I think I'll catch up first with cheap games such as Uncharted and R&C Future (assuming they'll go Greatest Hits soon).

I believe it'll be full-priced...it's a full-featured game loaded with trophies and additional (downloadable? They better make it free.) content, after all.

Definitely double dipping on this masterpiece. One of the best pure gaming experiences this gen. Kudos to them for going the extra mile and adding the DLC and trophies.

Trophies are not enough of a reason to get a game

im sorry, but i still think Achievements or Trophies are NOT important in my gaming experience, i dont get All the Hoopla! About them.

I do one if it sounds fun and falls in my way, but thats not what drive me to play a games.

It drives others to do so.

Why do all non fans of achievements/trophies feel compelled to get on the soap box and talk about how much they don't care about them.

Next time someone says they want to play a game for the gameplay im gonna be like, moran thats not fun I play for ACHIVMNTS

It's called incentives. Many people feel motivated to go through an entire game when they're rewarded by doing so.

because achievements/trophies lovers feel compelled to get mad at us for posting our opinions on a...forum

anyways, im speaking for myself, i'd would Day 1 BioshockPS3 if it had more extra "level" then they've announced, or some new mode. appreciate 2K's fan service but, telling me they have Trophies is not enough for me.

This is a thread about trophies. Just like you don't come into a wrestling thread to say "lol wrestling" you shouldn't be tempted to come into a achievements/trophies thread to say they are meaningless.

This isn't something difficult to comprehend.

This isnt a trophies versus gameplay topic, I just notice people who DO NOT like achievements and such seem vocal about it, what fucking harm is there? Take two isn't making bioshock ps3 in order to resell it to people who bought it on 360, its to give it to those who didn't buy it.

Can't change the fact that its a good game, that should be more of a reason for people who haven't had the opportunity to play it, but if someone is rebuying just for the trophies then its there prerogative :)

didnt you read the OP's link?

This is how they made the widescreen originally (cutting the 4:3, instead of getting 4:3 from chopping widescreen)

BioshockFOV.jpg
The 360 version was MUCH better after the FOV patch came out. I found the original view very constricted and hard to play, but once they fixed the FOV the game becomes SO much better.

sorry if it's already been posted somewhere but I can't seem to find it.....what exactly is gonna be in the "exclusive" content?

I don't think double dipping requires you sell your old version. If this new version offers new content, then there's the reason no?
