BioShock Vita development is up to Take-Two and Sony, says Levine

Anybody who thought Irrational was going to work on a Vita exclusive BioShock instead of a multiplat console title can't be serious. I mean, come on.

This sounds like another Agent/DMC PSP/Resident Evil PSP situation....

I would not be surprised if this game does not ever get made.

So they announce a game that doesn't exist, a game that doesn't have a direction and a game that doesn't even have a team to make it.

Embarrassing.

*watches thread closely for misplaced anger towards Levine and Irrational*

ya know... this may turn out to be the "bioshock 2" to infinite. another team makes it to wring some money out, while the core team focuses on infinite and new main games. [edit: actually probably not, Levine seems excited to make BS vita a reality this time]

or like others are saying, call of duty vita.

It was Levine on stage with a Vita in his hands............

At that point the beginning of the deal were probably already hammered out. If Take-Two and Sony are currently in talks to find out whats going to happen to Bioshock Vita, then it's likely that when Ken Levine made that announcement they were very clearly going to make the game. I'd bet that Take-Two is trying to pull out as much support for the game as possible since they won't get their investment returned.

Has someone made a thread already regarding all of SONY's legendary BS announcements? Can only imagine the PS4's launch,"here's FF VERSUS XIV!"

Which is why selling your company might not have been the smartest idea - in the end you are risking your reputation for something you have no control over. Take Two said: "Go out and announce the game" and Levine had to listen.

This is reason #1 games that haven't been shown as playable outside of the publisher should NOT be used in list wars. He already said the only reason he announced it in the first place is because Sony begged him to when they announced the system to show support even if it was just a name on paper.

Probably the same reason why SE announced FFX HD at TGS last year. Sony must have been pretty desperate for third-party announcements after the MH betrayalton.

Well, since they'll look at platform software sales and unit sales...

I think you guys can start taking it off those lists of upcoming Vita titles now.

And EA was onstage saying they supported the wiiU 100%

They may not be your bag, or late because of the seasonal release nature of the titles, but Madden and Fifa sell decent. And well, lol3

I'll be happy when Vita becomes PSP 2 and all the rest of the cool niche games start coming over since there will be nothing else but "console-level experiences" that are basically, you guessed it, shoddy ports.

At this point Sony would have been better getting T2 to port Bioshock in the first 6-12 months. At least Vita would had a great game and FPS.

Resistance and Declassified being the only two FPS released when FPS is clearly the biggest genre outside of Japan is a disgrace and reeks of awful planning.

Just like the entire Vita project.

I really want a solid FPS game on Vita, so this is dissapointing. Resistance and BLOPS declassified didn't do it for me..but there's always Killzone, I guess.

Yup, it's mental. FPS could be great on the Vita, with dual analogues supplemented by gyros.

Potential potential potential. Sigh.

Yes, because they'll only give the game like two months development time.

No I really meant in your hypothetical scenario where Sony takes a wait and see approach to Bioshock 3, which comes out in March 2013, and then green lights a sequel/spin-off which won't be ready until fall 2014 at the earliest.

Will Vita still be around in Fall 2014? I don't think that's an unrealistic question right now.

Don't get into the ring with a red cape and then then run like a little girl when the bull comes at you.

So... BioShock Vita is not coming.

Of course not.

Levine knows the answer to that question and he has deflected it nicely as being something out of his hands.

This seems to be almost a scripted answer at this point and its boring.

Game journo: what do you think about bringing your franchise to PSVita (or WiiU or 3DS, etc.)?

Developer: We see so much potential in <insert system name>. All of us at the office are really enjoying our <insert system name>. We have some good ideas and would LOVE to develop for it...BUT BUT BUT... It's not up to us. It has to be a good fit (i.e. somebody gonna have to throw us a shitload of money to do it)

Sony seems to get pushed around a lot these days. I doubt Microsoft would allow these things to happen without some legal repercussions.

Most companies don't announce things until they are ready to be announced

There's just not much Levine can say, he's not lying when he tells the interviewer that it's out of his hands.

I think they thing is... he should have told them he wasn't ready to announce it yet but he did get up on stage. He said ok, so now he is on the hook for it.

This.

SONY does this crap all the time see:Versus 13,TLG,FFX HD,Agent,RE,DMC,Elder Scrolls portable,COD VITA etc..

Also FFXIV

I think the bolded ones weren't really announced by Sony, I think DMC was in famitsu and Elder Scroll Travellers was talked about from Bethesda (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but yeah your point still stands regardless. Horrible history of big game announcements.

The safe thing to do is assume everything announced is vaporware until you see gameplay footage of it.

Yes, unfortunately. Would have been nice though.

Rumor has it sony paid $12 mil for the turd that was COD Vita and $12 mil for the polished turd that was AC3: L. With the former they still had to find the developer. Sounds like these meetings between T2 and Sony are T2 trying to get some money AND possibly have sony develop the game. Kinda like how Rovio wanted Angry Birds and Gearbox wanted Borderlands 2 to be done on vita.

Poor sony, seems like if they want 3rd party games on their system, they'll have to pay up some dough for the IP AND develop the game themselves lol

Woah, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater, AC:Lib is the opposite of a polished turd. It's completely unpolished and a very fun game.
