BioShock Vita development is up to Take-Two and Sony, says Levine

Jack Tretton personally announced FFXIV on stage at E3 for the PS3 and touted it as an exclusive.

I didn't bold FFXIV now, did I?

Sony seems to get pushed around a lot these days. I doubt Microsoft would allow these things to happen without some legal repercussions.

Yeah, Sony seems to be getting dick slapped a lot these days.

FFXIV actually exists, and as Jack said it's console exclusive on PS3. Not really the same as the others, lol.

I think his point is that development of the game on PS3 wasn't even started when the game was announced, much like every other game on that list.

Oh shit, this is bad. I should have known the Vita was DOA. This is my last handheld. I will never buy one again.

I am very disappointed in Sony, the Vita hardware is excellent but it can not survive without serious third party support.

Why would anyone point their finger at Sony? Sony can't just announce things without consent of the people who own/make the game. If they announce something, it happens after they've gotten the go from the people in charge. Would be very problematic (even from a legal standpoint) if that wasn't the case.

Companies should get their shit together. Don't announce things, ffs.

Ack, not even in devleopment. Damn.

Wtf, they haven't even started to develop the game? Then what's the point of announcing it and talking about it for a few minutes? How can Sony let this happen or even started this in the first place? That just embarrassing.

Beggars can't be choosers. Look at the actual third-party games Sony had to show that E3: Dragon's Crown, SFxT, Shinobido... not exactly an impressive crop.

Then why hasn't it been shown in a playable format on PS3 for so long after it was announced? It was announced in 2009.
Following the PC release, it's pretty clear why the PS3 version had to be delayed. But there are screens and the beta was also announced, I think.

No video but: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=495202

Which is a tonne more than what you can say about any of Sony's other vaporware announcements.

So PC screen shots? No one has seen running on a PS3 nor has anyone played it.

Point is, announce it once it is ready to be announced like all the other games in this thread.

Because Sony allowed a developer to get on their own stage and announce something that didn't even exist? Sony should have at least waited until this game was in dev, with something good to show and with a reasonable release date in sight, then they wouldn't look stupid.

They didn't "allow" him, Ken said that Sony directly asked him to do it even though he told them he wasn't ready.

No one involved with FFXIV expected what would happen to that game. It is the odd man out of the crop of vaporware announcements since it was an actual tangible project that had many problems.

All console manufacturers allow and maybe even encourage devs to basically lie on stage if it makes them look better. Microsoft does it for the exclusive GTA4 dlc, for example. Nintendo did it with SR 3DS, and Sony does it as well.

I'd agree that Sony gets screwed way more than the others but every manufacturer allows it.

SR 3DS existed.

It just got cancelled.

Sony shouldn't be paying for this game's development. Even if it's a great game it wouldn't move hardware.

so far we have
Gearbox " Sony should pay us for Boarderland 2 port"
Rovio " Angry Birds vita port is up to sony"
2K " show us the money"

well Sony made a mistake with Activision, now they can't stop this, publisher now know for sure that Sony is desperate on Vita and might pay to have games/ports so they will take full advantage of this.

For people who knows nothing about this:
1)It was already said a long time ago that the development will start after bioshock infinite
2)it will not be a normal bioshock, but something very different, maybe not even a fps.

Then they shouldn't even be releasing the Vita in the first place if third party content is so piss poor. They still got the guts to pull a Square Enix and announcing games that's not even in development/ready. I'll say it's a big fat mistake for Sony to try to cater for the west with cases such as COD VITA and Bioshock fucking them over.

Levine is a funny guy.

He came out in E3 2011 praising Wii U making people think he'll support it. No dice. He was just in the Wii U trailers to promote himself and his studio.

Comes out praising Vita and says he wants to support it. No dice...(so far)...

Bottom line is he's good at promoting his studio and games.

It is the thinking of "if we build it, they will come". Worked with PS1 but that was mostly because it was CD and not cartridge. I honestly think Sony fell ass backwards into their success and now don't know how to handle or or go forward when their competition isn't incompetent.

This is a good recap of the whole Vita situation, if Sony steps in and give the money big titles could be developed, otherwise not a chance.
Basically if Sony wants more support for the Vita they have to work on a second party party basis.

I just don't understand how Sony could drop the ball so much w/ the Vita on software. I love the thing, I love the games on it (in before HURR DURR NO GAMES), but they just seem like they said "well let's release a system and people will love to make games for it!!!" and hoped for the best. How are these people in management making decisions?

None of that is actually "lying".
