bioware and lucasarts team up to develop a game

That's an excellent point. I can fully imagine EA spinning off Bioware into a seperate division with their own publishing label.

The question is, what's happening with the Sonic RPG and the rumoured Bioware second party game for Sony. It wouldn't surprise me if both have gone the way of flesh to make way for Bioware's multi format future.

Why do people still talk about this rumor? Bioware stated on their own forums when it was going around they had nothing in development for PS3 and it was false. Sure now that they're under EA we will see a Bioware PS3 game.

As for the topic, it sucks that they will be doing a SW MMO. Was hoping we'd see something different for it.

I'd rather have KOTR 3 with an innovative online mode or something to that effect. Current MMOs already seem prehistoric. Maybe they can breath new life into it, but I doubt that for some reason...

If they make a KoToR MMORPG, it going to be like "too many Chiefs and not enough Indians" kinda situation, if Kotor 1&2 taught me anything it's that if you aren't a Jedi than you are worthless.

Yea KOTOR 3 would be great. For the MMO I was hoping they'd go with something else. But money talks at the end of the day.

Thats true. Being a Jedi will be incredibly NOT special. Unfortunately if they only allow people level 50+ to be one or something than the game will lose appeal to many people who just want a Lightsaber.
Plus I won't be allowed to do the mind trick on other PCs.:D

I got Dibs on playing a starving Refugee in the Undercity of Taris, Oh My word the rakghouls ate my Baby.

The Effect of Monkey Island

Tentacle Empire

Monkey Gate: Shadows of Threepwood

Full Throttle: Riders of the Ole Polecats

Indiana Nights

(it's probably another Star Wars game)

1. They have been developing an Mmorpg since 2005.

2. SOE had their license revoked by Lucas Arts in 2005.

3. There has been a ton of rumors about a new Star Wars MMO by Bioware for a long time to the point where Garnett even "coughed" the truth about it on one of the 1up yours podcasts.

4. There is no way Bioware is large enough to develop Mass Effect, an MMORPG and a new Starwars game all at the same time.

Thus, it will be a KOTOR mmorpg.

I thought mass effect was gold?

Which is kind of sad, really, because in both the d20 Star Wars Revised Core Rulebook ruleset (which KotOR was loosely based on) and the new d20 Star Wars Saga Edition, non-Jedi can be plenty badass, especially Soldiers and the many prestige classes.

KOTOR MMORPG. Believe.
I wonder how the whole EA thing will come into play for the publishing part of this game.

This is going to be weird, Bioware is an EA studio, OWNED by EA, funded by EA, published by EA, would it make sense for EA to let Lucas Arts fund Bioware? And who's going to publish the game and more importantly handle the profits, and who will own the IP? IF this is an on-going MMO, that's going to be a problem with two publishers fighting for a bigger piece of the pie.

Whatever happened to the Bioware/PS3-exclusive rumour?
For that matter whatever happened to Dragon Age? Or maybe the PS3 game was Dragon Age which is why both disappeared.

Can't wait for the melt down thread when the KotOR MMO is officially announced. Don't disappoint me now.

It makes no sense in the Star Wars universe to have non-Jedi badasses (I'm sorry the Fetts aren't THAT hardcore, Luke and Vader would have destroyed them in seconds). Jedis and Siths are essentially the badasses, the problem in the SW universe is that the force is just way too powerful for the other classes to be remotely meaningful, non-Jedis aren't supposed to be able to stand toe-to-toe with Jedis period.

Jango Fett easily took down one member of the Jedi High Council in AotC with about 4 shots from a pistol, and also gave Obi-wan a pretty good fight. Even if he is the best non-Jedi, in a MMORPG two-three elite non-Jedis should be able to take down a Knight, or at least fend him off.

Did SOE really have their License revoked my Lucasarts in 2005? That just means that they can't make any new StarWars products seperate from SWG, I would imagine? I mean the tale of that game was pretty bloody terrible, but I'd like to see some proof of them having their license revoked.

Not sure what's happening now since EA are the new BioWare task masters. But there is no way that EA will abandon their multi format philosophy now, including the Mass Effect sequel(s). I suppose it all depends whether EA are going to allow the team working on the PS3 exclusive to finish the game or not.
Sequels for Mass Effect probably have a first rights of refusal. So if MS wants to have a sequel to Mass Effect, they legally can have it. EA could possibility try to buy the rights back, but that might be a big dollar amount.

If Bioware is making KotOR 3...

KotOR greatness in a Mass Effect coat...

If this doesn't happen then the world has no hope...

how dare you indirectly imply that mass effect wont be great.

You mean like how Blizzard Entertainement is 100% owned by Vivendi Games, but acts like its own publisher?

True. But in what sort of crazy alternate universe do EA pay hundreds of millions of dollars for a studio that's knee deep in commitments to other publishers?

If...and that's a tremendous 'if' considering the organisation in question is EA, a newly owned Bioware do have to turn out a Mass Effect sequel that MS will then go ahead and presumably fund and publish, there's no way EA are going to have their top talent tied up with that for a few years.

My guess, considering that Bioware own the Mass Effect IP I think it's more likely that any BioWare/MS contract will become null and void under certain circumstances. Like say, if EA swept in and buys the whole company lock, stock and barrel.

It's by no means impossible, just considering that the person sitting at the other end of the table is EA, and how they handled securing their monopoly on the NFL, improbable.

Exactly, there's still a stigma attached to EA among huge sways of the gaming community. This might be a chance for them to win some cred back.

I wasn't implying that at all.

Though it sure looked like I did.

I'm going to get a 360 exclusively for Mass Effect. But a return to KotOR would be beyond great.

Hey, the blame lies solely with Lucasarts wanting to rush it out for the holiday season...

Thats why I HATED that "Force Unleashed" Demo they showed a while back.Vader doing a good 'ol fashioned Force Choke, fine. Some Unnamed jedi walking into a room, and in essence NUKING it to pieces, GTFO here. What's next a Jedi sneezes and takes out a solar system? It's the SAME problem the LAST Matrix movie had, it just got UNBELIEVABLE

Ok good, because i got a 360 for exactly the same reason and yes i would love a kotor 3. And i mean drop kotor 2 and just follow the Revan storyline they hinted at in 2.

I have to agree. The jedi are very powerful but they can still die when met with overwhelming odds. There is a reason why they needed the clone trooper army.

I'd say this is just more confirmation that it's a KotOR MMO... I'd rather see it be a single-player game, but... well, at least it can't be worse than the last attempt at a Star Wars MMO, right?
