tnw said:Well, I suppose if all you know of bjork is lol swan dress vespertine and ??? Medulla you might not think her music is very electronic/dancy.
Violently Happy is pretty dancy too.
tnw said:I think Pluto was a pretty zeitgeisty dance beat when it was released.
It's about Sindri? Damnit Pitchfork!duderon said:I'd agree that you could dance to a lot of Debut, but Earth Intruders has a different kind of (danceable) beat that is more current with pop songs today.
Pitchfork was wrong about 'My Juvenile', that song is about Sindri. She's said this in multiple interviews.
For people wanting to get into her music, i'd say go in order so you can here how her style has evolved album to album.
Debut - Post - Homogenic - Vespertine - Medulla - Volta
Star Power said:My local store was selling this a bit early so I picked it up -- really mixed bag on first listen. "Wanderlist," "Vertebrae by Vertebrae" and "Hope" are standouts to me so far. "Innocence" and "Declare Independce" are just awful, jesus christ. Ugh.
teiresias said:I don't know how anyone can dislike "Innocence," but to each their own.
Star Power said:Because it's totally tuneless and annoyingly abrasive.
Björk: Volta [Limited Edition CD Album]Jason said:Is there going to be a 5.1 mix of Volta? The Surrounded boxset kinda spoiled me.

And the dude who reviewed it on TMT pretty much predicted the Fork review exactly. It's beautiful.Odrion said:
What are you trying to say, exactly?tnw said:Oh Nick, of course you don't like Vespertine.
Why?tnw said:Just that we're different people.
Maybe more, maybe less?
tnw said:It certainly is not Bjork's best album.
I dunno. I'm not a fan of her duets. The one on Selmasongs should have stayed there. Dull flame of desire could have been so Isobel/Bachlorette-ish if it hadn't been a duet. Bjork creates her own emotional landscapes, that putting other people in them just seems off to me.
I guess there's nothing wrong with evolving one's sound, but string orchestration was a big part of the appeal of her music to me. This album uses a lot of brass, which just doesn't ring right with me. The last time she used brass that I can remember was the Anchor song, and it was much less prominent.

Here's a review that is probably more to your liking.Hotarubi said:Should've been lower.

But that's not what you first said.tnw said:Most gay people I've met don't like vespertine.
tnw said:Most gay people I've met don't like vespertine. That's all I'm saying. I could dig further as to why, but why bother.
I hate that song.tnw said:what? it's been my experience.
the gays want her dancy electronic beat music, especially pluto.
and these aren't even my words.
duderon said:There's really no reason why anyone should dislike Vespertine. It's just an amazingly visual masterpiece. Put on your favorite headphones, crank the volume up and listen to all of the intricacies of the songs. It still blows me away with each listen.
Nick said:I hate that song.
Are you seriously trying to tell me there is no conceivable way someone can dislike Vespertine?
I don't like the album.
With masterworks Post and Homogenic, I felt it was boring and pretentious, with too many crazy sounds going on everywhere and not enough substance. Yes, I realize most Bjork fans feel it is her strongest outing. I don't.
