An acquaintance of mine is a 5-Percenter Afrocentrist, who believes the same ideology as that "Space Moors" guy way back. He insists that both Mozart and Beethoven were Moors, which "9 times out of 10 means they were black". I kind of admire this guy's chutzpah, because he'll tell you to your face that you're a devil created by Yacoub.
Unlike the Space Moors guy, this dude believes the Slave Trade happened but believes that light-skinned black people don't come from West Africa. He believes that the mass rape of black women is a lie perpetuated by light-skinned black people, who he insists come from the Sahara, in an effort to prove their near-whiteness to white people.
This guy is really smart and quite good at intercollegiate debate, but a lot of his beliefs are really wacky. Not any weirder than racists who insists that the Greeks were Northern European, though.
This is something that even Mizrahi Jews do. I think a lot of it comes from resentment, because Ashkenazi Jews (especially Ashkenazi Jews of Western European descent) have the same privileges as white people and control most aspects of Israeli society.
