Black Ops 3 Zombies is Way Too Complicated

Agreed and I was INCREDIBLY disappointed when I first played. I was a king in Black Ops 2 zombies but once I tried Origins, my patience dropped and I fucking hated every minute of the map once I found out what had to be done.

BO3 takes it to a whole new level with being BS with the map and there's way too much stuff to do and figure out. Tranzit and Buried were absolutely perfect.

The newest zombie map just killed it for my friends and I. It feels like we are forced to solve an Easter egg rather than trying to survive the most rounds. They really went out of their way on this one.

extinction > BO3 zombies

Extinction is the best co-op mode by far in any COD game !
It had clear objectives and progression through the map. Also the maps had an actual ending via extraction or boss fight.

It's also easy to understand and play with randoms.

Agreed. I really hope IW brings it back this year.

This map shouldnt have been the first map to ship with the game. However, the map is easy to play after you read a guide. Not that hard right?

When players need to memorize 10-minute video rants about how to get Pack-a-Punch and other map functions, that's when you've screwed up.

Zombies was mainly loved because of its simplicity & accessibility -- I could play the WaW or BO1 maps for hours every day because of how accessible they were. But the maps keep escalating in complexity with every new game and quite frankly, I haven't even bothered to understand BO3's Shadows of Evil mechanics beyond the basics (like perks).

I understand that naturally, Zombies as a game mode needs to evolve and become better, but they're alienating many fans (like me) that prefer the beautiful simplicity of the initial maps. At the very least, I'd argue that every BO game should have a few of the original, simple maps built into the game.
Then again, we're talking about CoD -- they'd need to charge an extra $20 for that.

I'd rather IW include spec-ops (ala MW2) instead. Extinction was Ok, but there's more than enough supernatural co-op in BO's zombies mode and as a result Extinction felt a little uninspired.

with randoms.

There's your problem right there OP... I played a shitload of BO3 Zombies with my buddies, but I couldn't imagine playing this mode with Randoms... wow. That would be completely pointless. But don't get me wrong, I appreciate the option because I could still level up my guns and such... I'm not going to say the option shouldn't exist like with Destiny Raids :/

But anyways... all the other modes exist to play with Randoms. Save Zombies for your buddies.

This is the essence of the problem, the horde mode aspect is no longer front and center.
The Easter eggs have pretty much taken over Zombie mode.
I'm hoping the new map gets back to basics with the original cast and the return of actual "nazi zombies"

Well it does actually
Nope.

A player character in WaW was Reznov. Mason and his son were player characters in BO1 and 2. Ben Browder is the player character in BO3 and
there is no direct character connection to the previous games. Sure you have a passing text entry mention of Mason and Nova-6 is used,
but it doesn't make it a proper continuation. The endings of BO2 are
completely meaningless in BO3.

I agree...

Thats whY i still think waw & Blops1 had the best zombie mode, they just keep adding more and more and more.

keep it simple

Yeah, this exactly. The brilliance of the old modes was that they were accessible enough that after 1 or 2 runs you understood the layout of the map and how most things worked, but there was still enough depth and strategy to keep you playing for hundreds of hours. Now they seem to just keep upping the complexity and making the barrier of entry higher and higher until it's not worth learning.
Too many early decisions and too much choice actually harms the flow of the maps as well, they really need to take a good long look at Der Riese and Kino and work out why those maps were so good and try and replicate their design.

Treyarch overdelivered on value and underdelivered on quality, pretty much across the board.

Nah, the MP is still the best since Black Ops 2.

Also Zombies is still good, it's just gotten too bloated. However there's nothing in it that makes it "bad."

I dont think that its too complicated. Once you know what to do, its pretty straight forward, and with Youtube in today's market, it shouldnt be any problem finding out what to do (i found out using Youtube). I agree that it can be hard to play with newbies though. I usually end up running after then and knifing them, hoping that they will follow me. This is however only needed if they pick up some of the summoning items and have no idea what to do with it.

I think in a way they have to make it more complicated. Let's be honest the older zombie maps are pretty much easy as hell nowadays. It's literally just find an open area and just herd them so they follow you in a circle and just go for headshots. I mean yea that shit is fun but after awhile it's too easy.

The only thing I really have against shadows of evil is the fact you have to have your shit together by round 8 with randoms.

I never liked it in Black Ops 1 partly because of this, doesn't help they doubled down and made it worse. Probably the worst horde mode I've ever played.

Way to complicated, I don't even bother with zombies anymore. I want a simple map and I just want to survive. I bought the season pass and my fear is they are going to continue making these kinds of zombie maps and not give us anything simple!!

Way too complicated. Me and my buddies played a round for 4 hours doing the "easter egg" stuff (we got a decent way after you can get the sword) and I asked my friend how much longer there was... And he said we weren't even half way.

I couldn't do it anymore. Fuck that shit.

Sorry for the bit of a bump, but I had to chime in on what a bizarre mode this is, in that it requires basically outside research before you are really comfortable playing it online at all and often encourages counter intuitive things like don't kill the last zombie so we can compete this convoluted ritual first. It's super unfriendly to newer players, and I suspect that more experienced players also don't have great experiences because of the need for show much shared knowledge among the party.

I can see how playing with friends and working things out could be fun although the pacing with the rituals is still off IMO, but the balance between accessibility for random groups to have fun and arcane stuff needed to do well is strange. Just an odd mode.
