Black Tusk Studios renamed to "The Coalition"

Also guys, it's just a name. It doesn't necessarily dictate what they're working on.

Even under Black Tusk, we knew they'd be making Gears for the foreseeable future. But if Phil wants them working on something else, I can't see them freaking out just because of what they're named!

lol
By 2017 they won't even develop games. Their job will be to pump iron in an office space.

ITT:

"I feel bad for all the dev-slaves who are now forced to work on Gears of War games for the rest of their lives. Also that game that we knew nothing about was better."

Well, I always said all the while they were still Black Tusk there was a chance they would work on non-Gears stuff.

Obviously that is out of the window now, but I'm excited for the next Gears

Its an absolutely awful name though.

Should have called them COG Industries

COG industries I like.

In all honesty, I don't care what the studio is called, its the quality of the product I'm more interested in.

That E3 hype!!

haha so many people want to see a new game from people who haven't even finished their first. I guess gears is just that good

I wonder how a new Gears game will be received... Cover-based stop and pop shooters are pretty out of vogue. And if it does poorly, is that it for this brand new studio? :/

So we will see Gears 4 and that Remaster at E3?

are we sure that those two aren't the same thing yet?

I doubt it. MS paid $50m+ for the IP and all the assets so I would expect they're going to plug away at the franchise for the next generation.

Being from the UK, the word 'Coalition' just brings back memories of broken promises and shattered futures. But hey, more Gears is locked down for at least a few more games, so that's nice. The franchise deserves to live on after Judgement was so underrated.

It's a mainline Gears, and it will have been 5 years (likely) since Gears 3. It'll sell.

ND: Uncharted, 3 games in a row, then they decided to go for a new IP
Santa Monica Studio: God of War studio (Already 4 or 5 God of War games)
PD: Gran Turismo, 7 Games, no plans new IP?
Guerrilla Games: Killzone, 4 Games in a row, then planned a new IP
Crystal Dynamics: Since 2006 only Tomb Raider franquices. (4-5 games of the same franquice)
Evolution Studios: Motorstorm, 4 games in a row, then they try a new IP
Sucker Punch Productions: Since 2009 just Infamous (3 Games in a row)

343i: Only 1 Game and 1 remake
TC: No game released yet
People complaingin about a name and the direction of TC.

I see what you are trying to do but why is Crystal Dynamics in that list?

Maybe beause you do not get what I am trying to do.. I do not care about "Sony too", my message is: "When they get bored new IPs will come"

Well, I hope this doesn't mean that they can't work on any original IPs outside of Gears like 343i is forced to make only Halo. Microsoft really needs to let their studios breathe and be creative with new ideas than to milk one franchise over and over again. Still looking forward to a new Gears game, but I don't think I'm looking forward to a Gears of War 10 in the future.

Why would they be the same thing? Splash Damage is said to be handling the Remaster and The Coalition are working on the next major Gears which is still a ways off.

didn't know the remake wasn't being done at Coalition. I would have thought MS would be weary about farming out another one of their IP's.

What... what does that have to do with anything?

Edit: oh i see your doing sony too. Ok.
I get your point alot of devs make ips into long running sereis.

Ahh! You can join Zombie James with his "similar" concerns!

Complaints about MS IP farming only sir.

Sucks to see that they're going to be the Gears studio now. I don't know if that franchise can stand the test of time like Halo has. Cover-based TPS gameplay has gotten pretty boring to me. Seeing a next gen Gears is still exciting though.

'Hey since we're going to making Gears games for the rest of our careers, we may as well change our name'

I suppose it's possible.

Ah, that is most likely it. Now that I know they just chose a local landmark for the name, I like the name change a bit more now. Seems like they couldn't think of anything more interesting at back then.

Yeah I could see how some people could view working on a big AAA for a long time negatively, but if the studio is ran well I think it could also be a very positive experience for a long time. Rod Ferguson certainly didn't mind returning to Gears.

Microsoft has an excellent track record farming out development for remakes and ports. The issue with Master Chief Collection wasn't merely the fact that it wasn't done in house. It's the fact that it was a package with a ridiculous amount of moving parts that was segmented and outsourced to multiple studios.

Gears of War Remastered first.

I'm not sure how the series will be received, it was tired last gen and now we're back to the first then a new one. Will be interesting to see if it has much pull now.

The Coallition not even a game released.
343i Only have 1 game and 1 remaster
Turn 10 has more diversity than Polyphony (Horizon != Motorsport)
Rare (Multiple franchices and totally free). Phil said they are free to do whatever they want to
Lionshead: Black&White, Fable.
Remedy (2nd) Quantum Break and Alan Wake, I pretty sure they are free to do whatever they want to.

Coalition are a Gears of War factory
343i are a Halo factory
Fair enough Turn 10 have two different racers
Rare have been chained to Kinect sports but are being let loose now
Remedy are not 1st party

Like, theres nothing wrong with attaching studios to certain franchises, especially if they excel at pumping out great games eg Turn 10.

Just in my opinion there's a bit more creative freedom with Sony thats all.

It's not a mistake until you do it two years in a row

The "black tusk" name sounded tough
This sounds like (before I even read the first post) a name change associated with purely gears IP only.
