Besides how difficult they are to open, I hate that afterwards you do not have a box to keep the item in for storage purposes, and if you should want to return the item, they are more likely to hassle you if you had to destroy the packaging to get it out.

Yeah, that's pretty much why those packs are so popular, it freaking sucks. Which is why I got one of these!

When it comes to stopping thieves, I support it. Seriously, it isn't that hard to open these things up with a little bit of intelligence.

I worked in retail and found packages partially opened with the product still in them because it was too damned difficult to quickly get out.

I used to work in retail too. If thieves want your shit bad enough, they are going to get it. Just like copy protection the people who are hurt most are innocent consumers.

Blister Packs suck but are nothing compared to the hard plastic shell boxes that Microsoft sells Office and the like in. They cannot be opened without a hammer.

Two things:

1) Spend a few bucks on an X-Acto knife or box cutter or something. They're generally sharper than scissors and allow you to cut a nice, hand-sized hole in these jackass packages.

2)

I guess the copy editor's already away for Christmas.

What was wrong with using "they're"?
Apparently your copy editor is away.

edit

Guess I'm late to the grammar party lol

I hate the fucking stuff, Just got my brother a Xbox Wireless Adapter and it has lovely blister packaging.

the only times I have problems with them is when I buy a package in a store and try to open it in the car with my bare hands. It is pretty easy if I have a knife or any cutting tool around.

I don't think anyone uses that shit here.
Thank god, too. Blister packages are the DEVIL.

I thought they were invented so it was harder for you to get a refund on buying the wrong kind of LAN cable?

Yeah, it's packages like this that are the most ridiculous.

I mean, even when you get the knife through, you have to fucking pull it apart with your hands. And it's not breakaway, so you actually have to bend, break, and ultimately deform the sharp plastic to reach the item :lol

That's another reason I hate them - I don't like having to go up to the counter with a container that has been torn apart. Although I have never had a problem with being able to return because of that, I just feel more confident when I have the bag, receipt and the product put back as best I can with the packaging.

For non-blisters I can get products put back well so that they are resellable. With the blisters, the store usually just marks them as defective no matter what and sends them back to the manufacturer since an unsealed blister pack does not look new to sell anymore. I don't know if the manufacturers care about having to take it back, put it through QA again, reseal and ship it out, but they should consider those costs.

For more expensive items, I will take more time to open them carefully just so that the destruction of the packaging itself does not become something that makes the store not want to take it back. I have gotten pretty good with taking a razor and following the edges of packs so that the cut line is smooth and follows the contours of the package. When I do a return, the back flap I cut either fits back in snug or I can use thin strips of clear packaging tape to seal it back. Sometimes the clerk doesn't even notice the package has been opened until I point it out (which I will do to make sure the store is aware of it - then it is their decision as to whether the package should be defected or is good enough to resell).

fuck i had to open 3 of those a few weeks back. just getting through the curved outer edges is a pain.

almost every store keeps their games and hardware behind a case so why cant we have cardboard. if someone really wants to steal something they'll do it no matter what the item is in.
